I think the title is fairly self-explanatory in this case. The only thing that remains to be seen in this (likely) Locke-centric episode, is if he did indeed DIE and if so, by what cause, and for how long?

This week's episode is entitled 316. Based on the podcast, it sounds as if it (or perhaps next week's) is a "stand-alone" in that it does not affect the story-telling. I expect it will be a particularly strong program because the "stand-alone" episodes are those the producers usually offer up for Emmy consideration.
316 - The area code in Wichita, Kansas
(The producers have made Oz references.)

This Place is Death
This week's episode title is a bit of enigma. It cannot be directly related to anything (other than thousands of LOST websites devoted to figuring it out). Not wanting to spend thousands of hours to read what OTHER people figured out, I tried to think like D&C do... literarily.
I went to Amazon and put This Place is Death in quotation marks hoping against hope that perhaps there was a book out there somewhere with the same title. While I didn't find a book with that title, I did find MANY with SIMILAR quotes in it. Only ONE had the actual quote, and given the author, I expect it may be likely that this is the jackpot.
Here is the Amazon Editorial Review of Stephen King's The Gunslinger:
King writes both a new introduction and foreword to this revised edition, and the ever-patient, ever-loyal "constant reader" is rewarded with secrets to the series's inception. That a "magic" ream of green paper and a Robert Browning poem, came together to reveal to King his "ka" is no real surprise (this is King after all), but who would have thought that the squinty-eyed trio of Clint Eastwood, Lee Van Cleef, and Eli Wallach would set the author on his true path to the Tower? While King credits Tolkien for inspiring the "quest and magic" that pervades the series, it was Sergio Leone's The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly that helped create the epic proportions and "almost absurdly majestic western backdrop" of Roland's world.
To King, The Gunslinger demanded revision because once the series was complete it became obvious that "the beginning was out of sync with the ending." While the revision adds only 35 pages, Dark Tower purists will notice the changes to Allie's fate and Roland's interaction with Cort, Jake, and the Man in Black--all stellar scenes that will reignite the hunger for the rest of the series. Newcomers will appreciate the details and insight into Roland's life. The revised Roland of Gilead (nee Deschain) is embodied with more humanity--he loves, he pities, he regrets. What DT fans might miss is the same ambiguity and mystery of the original that gave the original its pulpy underground feel (back when King himself awaited word from Roland's world).
Has anyone read it? Can we relate anything our LOSTies are encountering to this novel? Or am I on the wrong track completely? Only a few more hours until we find out!

Antoine de Saint-Exupéry?
This week's episode is entitled The Little Prince. My mind immediately jumped to the beautiful children's book by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. In it, there are some definite parallels to our LOST world, as well as a few pertinent messages.
But I thought I should explore other possible meanings. I spent quite a while on google and really, didn't find any.
So I guess we will just have to wait and see if our predictions about the story are true. Not that they EVER are!

Betty and Veronica?
Okay, so tonight's episode is entitled Jughead, and personally I can't get the Archie Comics relationship out of my head! So then I started thinking what else Jughead could refer to.
Apparently, it is also the name of an early search engine (like yahoo or google).
As well, the "Kool-Aid Man" is known as Jughead in Canada. (I grew up there, and honestly, I don't ever remember that.)
It was also the name of a band with one album in 2002, (the tracks were Halfway Home to Elvis; C'Mon; Snow in Tahiti; Promise; Bullet Train; Waiting on the Son; Yesterday I Found Myself; Be Like You; Flowers; Shame on the Butterfly; and, Paging Willie Mays).
Jughead is the nickname of a nuclear bomb!
Additionally, it was the slang term for a mule in the 19th Century.
Lastly, it was the name of a song, widely thought to be the worst Prince ever recorded.
The episode is supposed to be Desmond-centric. I think we can rule out the kool-aid connection and probably the band. This leaves the bomb, a mule, the internet search engine and the Prince song.

Season 5 is about to start, and barring an actors' strike, snowstorms in Hawaii, or a freak accident in the offices at Bad Robot, we should get the entire season without any breaks. Will it live up to expectations? We only have to wait a little longer:

100 Days Out...
If we were on the island
While Jack was on the phone with the guy from the freighter, the previously-thought-dead Naomi wandered off. The rest of us headed back to the beach while Kate, Jack and Rousseau (with Ben in tow) went looking for Naomi.
But I nearly forgot the most exciting part! Hurley rescued the people at the beach! I guess that only two of the traps went off and Sayid, Jin and Bernard were taken captive by some of the others. Juliet and Sawyer doubled back to see if they could help, as did Hurley. Hurley saved the day! He ran that crazy old VW bus right over one of the Others and that gave Sayid the chance he needed to get the rest. Hooray for Hurley!
On the way back to the beach, we met up with everyone else. Funny how on this great big island, we all, every one of us, ended up in the same place - right near the wreckage of the cockpit. Jack wanted everyone to get to the beach to be rescued. Locke was still acting crazy saying that we needed to avoid the people on the freighter (if he could give us just ONE concrete reason WHY maybe I wouldn't think he was so crazy!). In the end, we split into two groups. One was going back to the barracks with Locke and the other was going to the beach with Jack.
The really sad news is that Charlie is dead. He drowned while making sure the rest of us would be rescued. We are all in shock.
Over the course of the next few days, a number of people "switched camps" (some several times). I don't have any idea WHY but I will tell you this, just HEARING Minkowski on the phone was enough to make me want to stay at the beach.
Actually, there are some people from the freighter among us now. Charlotte, a red-headed anthropologist who has a bit of an attitude and Daniel, who seems to be a very kind-hearted scientist - maybe a physicist of some kind. They keep to themselves and only seem to talk to Jack and a few others. That's fine, as long as their people show up, I am happy.
I think Christmas was a few days ago. No one seemed to care enough to talk about it - maybe because simple milestones like surviving the night are enough to celebrate.
The last few days have been very confusing - people coming and going from the beach. I thought I heard a helicopter fly overhead a couple of days ago and then Sayid came TO the island on a small motorboat! He was going to take people back to the freighter and then instead, took off into the jungle! Jin took a group of people out to the freighter and came back for more. I think I will be on the next boat. Oh I hope so!

New Promo
Just when we were finally starting to get LOST out of our system, ABC released a new promo. Enjoy:
It requires a lot of views to take everything in, so don't worry about seeing "too much" the first time around. But since it is released by ABC, I consider it to be spoiler-free.
There is another version, which includes the actors' voices. The promo is much better. Instead of having to sit through the inane Hallowe'en costume clip, just put your mouse over the center of the frame and then click on the white arrow which points to the right.
UPDATE (Edited 11/7/08): The promo below now has a different 30 second promo, followed by the inane Hallowe'en clip. The FF arrows are gone, as apparently is the "old" promo.

91 Days Out
If we were on the island...
We were almost to the radio tower, when Ben and Alex showed up! They were just standing there waiting for us. That guy is so creepy. He and Jack had a conversation, but I couldn't hear it properly. I think Ben said something about how we shouldn't call Naomi's people. Is he CRAZY? We want to get off the island!
Then Ben and Jack disappeared behind some rocks and a few minutes later, Jack brought bloody Ben back out and asked Rousseau to tie him up. It is then that Rousseau was finally reunited with her long lost daughter Alex! Not that they had time to enjoy the reunion.
We finally got to the radio tower and the green light on Naomi's satellite phone came on! She told Claire that her "rock star boyfriend" got us all rescued! Unfortunately, all the phone picked up was Rousseau's old distress call, so a few people went into the radio tower to turn off her signal. Just as Naomi was about to make a connection, a flying dagger pierced her back! Locke just killed her! (Actually, it turns out that though we thought she was dead, she was only wounded, but I am getting ahead of myself.)
