The Last Recruit - The Post LOST Watch

Okay, so the DVDs are out. Are you catching up? Commenting on the blog? Have you given up? (It kind of feels like it!)

I have to wait until my birthday to get the full series on DVD. I am Netflixing season six in the mean time. Got disk five, because I *had* to see the extras on it. Now I am waiting for disk one so I can start over.

In the meantime, next on the list is The Last Recruit. How will our opinion of the episode change as we see it again?

On a different note, I am completely and utterly devastated that LOST was shut out at the Emmys AGAIN. At least there were nominations, but with the exception of some of the Schmemmys (Kathy Griffin's word for the Creative Arts Emmys) where some Emmys might have been awarded to LOST (and I don't know), it was a complete failure. I mean, I know Mad Men is a great show and everything, but to overlook Emerson and O'Quinn (maybe they sort of canceled each other out?) and the series as well? Oh mylanta. (It doesn't help that Glee, my other favorite show, was passed over by the most part - except for the much-deserving Jane Lynch!)

The one bright light of the Emmys was Jorge's participation in the opening sequence. FanTABulous!

I do love me some Hurley! How will this episode be more meaningful now that we know the outcome?

The big news of the week, of course, is the season 6 (and full series set) DVDs dropping tomorrow!

Emmy Nods for LOST!

Can LOST book-end the series with an Emmy win for its final season?! LOST picked up an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Drama (along with Breaking Bad, Dexter, Mad Men, True Blood, and The Good Wife). Of these, I have seen The Good Wife. It is a great show, but it is no LOST. What is your opinion of the others?

Matthew Fox was nominated for Outstanding Actor in a Drama Series (together with Jon Hamm [Mad Men]; Kyle Chandler [Friday Night Lights]; Bryan Cranston [Breaking Bad]; Hugh Laurie [House M.D.]; and Michael C. Hall [Dexter]). While this was Foxy's best season, where is the love for Josh Holloway? I have seen a few episodes of House over the years, and Hugh Laurie is great - though I find the character mildly two dimensional. Haven't seen any of the other shows. Thoughts?

For Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series, both Terry O'Quinn and Michael Emerson were recognized (along with John Slattery [Mad Men]; Aaron Paul [Breaking Bad]; Martin Short [Damages]; and Andre Braugher [Men of a Certain Age]). As thrilled as I am that O'Quinn and Emerson were nominated, they both deserved to be in the lead actor category. As I understand it, the actors determine which category to which they would like to be submitted. By choosing supporting actor, I suppose they improved their chances. Had they chosen lead actor, it would likely have bumped Foxy from the running, but would have opened the door for Jorge, Daniel and Naveen, who all had stellar years. And what about Nestor and (Henry) Ian? I guess the academy needs a category just for LOST supporting actors. Again, I have only seen one show, Men of a Certain Age. Andre Braugher is great, but I think Emerson ought to have this tied up, if not for this season, than for his entire body of work on LOST.

Surprise, surprise, the women were shut out. I know Elizabeth Mitchell didn't have enough screen time to warrant a nomination, but she still deserves one for the season five finale! Evangeline and Yunjin both had great years, and even Emilie's short screen time was notable.

What are your opinions of these nominations? Who was overlooked? What do you think of the other nominees?
