67 Days Out
If we were on the island...

Another eventful few days... it seems like there is always something amazing going on around here. They caught a man and had him locked in the hatch! He said his name was Henry Gale and he was flying in a hot air balloon and crashed on the island. Pretty much EVERYONE tried to interrogate him, but only Ana-Lucia was able to get him to draw a map to his crashed hot-air balloon. Then she, Sayid and Charlie went looking for the hot-air balloon. They found it, and the grave where Henry said he buried his wife... only it was the REAL Henry Gale's body that was there, so we know this guy with the crazy eyes is an OTHER!

Michael came back. Kate and Jack went to meet the others to try to trade Henry for Walt and instead, Michael stumbled out of the jungle. He was pretty shook up.

I heard through the grapevine that Sun is pregnant. I think we all knew before her husband Jin! And Hurley and Libby had been getting pretty serious. Hurley planned a picnic on the beach with her and everything. Poor guy, he had it bad for her.

I say HAD because Libby and Ana-Lucia were shot! Michael was too, but he survived. And Henry Gale got away. At Libby and Ana-Lucia's funeral, Sun saw a boat. For about thirty minutes, we were all excited, until we found out it was Desmond's boat.

Then Michael took Jack, Kate, Sawyer and Hurley to go get Walt back from the Others. I heard Sayid say something about being compromised and then he, Jin and Sun sailed Desmond's boat around to the other side of the island. Then, if that isn't weird enough, Locke went crazy and decided to stop pushing the button. Eko went equally crazy and took some of the left over dynamite and blew up the hatch. Then, a few minutes later, the ground started shaking, the whole sky went violet and there was this mind-numbing noise.

So Michael, Walt, Jack, Kate, Sawyer, Hurley, Sun, Jin, Sayid, Eko, Locke and Desmond are all missing. Ana-Lucia and Libby are dead. Only Charlie, Claire, Rose and Bernard are left at the beach to keep everyone in line. I like the four of them, but all of our "trusted leaders" are gone and I am feeling a little uneasy. I hope they come back soon and start telling us what the HECK is happening on this island!

In the S4E8 episode "Meet Kevin Johnson", The same song is heard playing when Michael crashes his car and when he first tries to blow up the freighter. Name the Artist and/or title.

Hammer said...

Mama Cass, can't remember the exact title, but something about "getting better".

Hammer said...

Staying with music. I remember this one 'cause the artist is one of my favs.

In "Further Instructions" during an FB(mariuana camp episode) Locke is driving in a pick up truck. Artist and/or title of the music playing?

In S4E9, "The Shape of Things to Come", We see Ben lying in the middle of the desert ( at that point, it was assumed he time-traveled, later confirmed in the finale ). What date did he arrive at the hotel? (BONUS: What famous author did D&C steal the episode title from?)

lost4ever said...

It is also been the subject of numerous songs, my favorite is the one by Audioslave, which I have added to my profile if anyone is interested.

October 2005. Not sure of the date, 11th comes to mind.

No clue on the bonus question.

PJSander said...

October 24th - I know because it is a friend's birthday!

And I think it was an HG Wells reference. The reason I remember that is that I DIDN'T know the reference when we were discussing it on the big island, so I looked it up!

In the season 4 opener, Jack and Hurley are playing a game together. What game and where?

: ) P

PJSander said...

Hey, I think today was the first day of Comic-Con. Guess none of us won any prize to go there. *sigh*

I heard that none of the LOST cast were going to be there. Of course, that is probably a teaser.

Hope we'll get a podcast about it soon!

No fair! Well tell Circus Dork to soak it all up and share with you so you can share with us!

Good job, on the game, btw. Your turn!

Ooh ooh ooh! Locke was playing it at work! In the lunch room maybe?

OK PJ, your up.

PJSander said...

Okay, so we've seen Risk, and Backgammon play parts in LOST. Name two other similar games that have been shown.

I don't know how many there are, but I can think of two - three if you are creative. *G*

Chess, Mousetrap, Poker, Ping Pong, Golf.

PJSander said...

Mousetrap was one I was thinking of. Chess was the "creative" one because I only remember it when Locke played it on the computer. There was one more "board" game though...

(But good work on the poker - I hadn't thought of that!)

Your turn Circus Mom!

Hurley beat Sawyer at Pink Pong and won "No nicknames for a week." What game did Jack play with Sawyer and what did he win.

PJSander said...

LOL. That's a good one. It was tens of thousands, as I recall, but I don't remember the exact amount!

ps - still waiting to see if anyone remembers the other "board" game! (Board is in quotation marks because it is considered a board game, even though there is no board.)

is it the game Hurley and Leonard played called connect 4

I guess Circus Mom or Circus Dork is up. ONLY 6 full months left until S5E1.
But I can't wait until Mondays in September on Sci-fi. I will, for sure, miss an hour, ( HEROES ). But I think maybe a weekly recap would be fun. HERE, and/or the BIG island.:)

Glad to know the answer to the question about the hatch implosion purple sky event(in regards to whether or not it moved the island).

lost4ever said...

In the other article posted by DocH it says "Lindelof insisted that the Island did not move in the finale." Interesting.

Hammer said...

Per ususal, LOST is not what it seems L4E. :)

Don't you just love how we can debate and analyze something we were led to believe only to find out Ben was lying again. Guess we'll have to wait and see if the island is capable of "moving".

Anonymous said...

The article was incorrect. The author is obviously not a Lost fan. They said the island didn't move in the finale when Dexmond turned the fail safe key but that "something did happen. It had nothing to do with season 4. We can still assume the island moved when Ben turned the donkey wheel. Two different purple sky events.

Trivia question.

In what city and state was ben born.

Hammer said...

That's okay. I'm glad they confirmed that the island didn't move from the hatch event. Now they need to explain why both events had the same purple sky effect without having the same effect on the island....

"Not in Portland" but in Oregon....or maybe in Portland, can't remember...

Anonymous said...

Hiking near Portland. You're up.

It's getting harder to come up with trivia questions. We should work on a new game for when we run out.

Anonymous said...

Just rewatched the comic con video. The baby crying makes me think they are saying that babies could be born before the purge. Perhaps being on the island when it moves prevents someone from giving birth. Then Sun could have had a healthy baby. Or, if purple sky events prevent it then she couldn't.

I wonder why Chang had recorded the previous video as Dr. Marvin Candle, and why they made a point of letting us know that was a lie. Any theories here?

DocH, I think you may have nailed it.

The only thing that contradicts your theory that I was able to find was this exchange when Roger found out what he would be doing on the island. It seems that it is HIS first time on the island...

OPAL: I'm sorry, Mr. Linus.

ROGER: Goodspeed told me you people were doing experiments, changing the world. I didn't come here to clean up after ya!"

I like your theory, DocH about Ben's parents being on the island. Maybe he had to PRETEND he had never been there, when he returned with Ben... to protect Ben's identity as "the chosen / special" child?!

GOOD question, Hammer. Don't know the answer, but I love the question. It reminded me of a thought I had in rewatching S3E01, where in flashback, Jack thinks his dad is sleeping with Sarah. He follows him to a hotel and eventually into an AA meeting. The way the camera angles follow Christian (catching a glimpse just as he turns the corner) is JUST the way they do when Jack is chasing him on the island.

Hammer, I tried to go to the DHARMA wants you site this morning (and yesterday, as I remember hearing that the site would be "live" on Monday) and got an error message. Thank you for mentioning your email - mine went to spam! I am also only getting a blue screen right now, but that is better than an error message!

PJ beat me to the trivia answer.

Idon't think Ben's parents were on the island before. I think the fertility problems started sometime later. There were/are several special bables. I don't think all of their parents were on the island previously. Somehow the island or those on it know how to find those special babies.

Ben, Godspeed and his wife waiting and watching. Mother dies in childbirth. Father has to raise alone.

Locke, father MIA. Mosther couldn't raise him. Alpert watching from the begining.

Walt, parents seperate while he is young. Moved far away from father so he is removed from the equation.

Aaron, father leaves while Claire is pregmant leaving her to raise baby alone.

Jiyeong, father dies on island, Mother left to raise baby alone.

I think in each case the mother was meant to raise the baby alone or the real parents were meant to be out of the picture all together.

This brings my thoughts back to Adam and Eve. We have been asking who they are and looking at how they are "parent figures" to the story. Perhaps we should look at other aspects of Adam and Eve. The idea or origional sin and Eve's making a choice that "changed everything."

Will the choice that our Eve has to make be the choice of going back to change the past to save someone. This being the one temptation that has to be avoided. This being the case, will Sun be trying to save Jin, Kate save Sawyer (or jack), Charlotte save Daniel, or Claire save Charlie.

Here's a thought that just popped into my head. DidSawyer ask Kate to hide and protect Clemintine from being taked to the island. Is she a special baby too.

Hammer said...

PJ is correct.

Which had me thinking...did the island make the pens not work like it made the gun, bomb, suicide attempts not work?

Which then got me thinking about the old question of how and why these people were "directed" to flight 815. Did the "island" make it happen?

lost4ever said...

I am pretty sure that the Linus' couple were never on the island before. I think the whole fertility issue happened once Ben came in control of the island. Kind of a sub-conscious type thing I can't explain. But I could be wrong and maybe, as speculated, that is how Annie died? or is Annie really Libby?

Anonymous said...

I think the "island" did make the pen not work. I think the "island" also caused the "special" babies to not be raised by two (birth) parents.

In The Golden Compass (books, not movie) various forces are trying to make Eve (Lyra) make a certain choice that will change the future of everything, one way or another. There is rairly a clear view of which side is good and which is evil. It is mentioned in the book as "intelegence vs. stupidity" instead or "good vs. bad."

Parralel timelines overlap and in the end her choice seperates them again, thus, saving the future, or a chosen future.

Moving the island is only done as a last resort. Is it one of the bad or dangerious choices?

lost4ever said...

What's the Golden Compass?

lost4ever said...

Moving the island was Ben's last resort.

Anonymous said...

A movie came out about a year ago called The Golden Compass. Sort of a fairy tale/fantasy story. A friend recently told me it was based on a series of three books and that the books were much better and more complex. I read all 1800 pages in 4 days. Couldn't put it down.

These books, like many others that make you think, are either banned or close to banned by the Catholic church and other "book banners" as, like Lost, they present ideas not compatable with what the church teaches.

Doc, I stand corrected on who wants to ban the book. I was told by two different friends of mine, both Cathlic, that their church had banned the books.
I'm sure the author, Pullman, would be dissapointed that the person who recomended the books to me used to define himself as a atheist, but no more. After reading the books I discussed it with him and he acknoldges a beleif in a higher being. Just not the one defined by the religion he was raised in.

Lost4ever Babtised Catholic, raised Jewish. Guess I would be defined as Unitarian now. If I had the choice I'd vote for Rose. Rose for president. I like the sound of that;)

Anonymous said...

PJ, I went back to listed and it did sound like Daniel. Read the comments on youtube. Several thought it was Daniel. Many thought the baby crying was Charlotte. Not sure why. I think Chang said take HIM out. Maiby Miles?

Looked at anagrams. There were a ton but none made sense.

Has anyone ever tried to analize the frames between the speaker. The ones where it goes fuzzy?

lost4ever said...

Wasn't thinking of a LOST character as president, but that's a good one. I like Rose but she didn't seem to get involved too much with the losties problems, until recently. Kind of independent. I would have to vote for Hurley or Jack. Hurley, well he's Hurley. Jack has never wanted the responsibility but he has generally felt concern for all the losties, even Sawyer, when he didn't like him.

Off topic...whisperers...recently had a thought which may have been brought up before, but a character (maybe Locke?) mentioned when someone was burying something that things don't stay buried....I wonder if this was a clue that dead folks don't go away...they become whisperers?

PJSander said...

Hammer said: I wonder if this was a clue that dead folks don't go away...they become whisperers?

Or along those lines, those who ARE buried become whisperers. So Shannon, Boone, etc. are whisperers, but Michael, Mikhail who both blew up, are not. *IF* Charlie met a watery death, he would not be a whisperer. *IF* Jin exploded, he would not be a whisperer.

Rousseau and Karl were buried in shallow graves: whisperers. But where does that leave Christian and Claire?

*g*

: ) P

PJSander said...

Oh, and I saw you-tube clips of the LOST panel at Comic-Con. D&C gave away photos of the actors who played Nikki and Paulo.

The fact that they brought them up again, reinforces my claim that Nikki and Paulo will play a larger part in the mythology in the long run. D&C claim that they were introduced, and quickly killed off, due to fan influence. I just don't buy it. If that were the case, they wouldn't keep reminding us about them! Same with Emma and Zack. Juliet mentioned the "children" in a flashback late last season. If the kids were not important, we would not have been reminded they existed.

JMO

: ) P

Anonymous said...

OK, does anyone buy Nikki and Paulo or Emma and Zack as Adam and Eve?

PJSander said...

Hey, Circus Mom, why not?

So here's a related "thing that makes you go hmmmm" (shout out to Arsenio)... when the island moved, did it take the whisperers with it?

We watched S4E05 - The Cost of Living tonight. I have not seen that episode before! Must have missed it first run. NOW I understand all the talk on the big island about Yemi appearing to Eko.

In that same episode, they send the deceased Colleen Picket out to see in a burning effigy raft. Maybe the Others know a thing or two about NOT burying the dead?

Hey L4E, I think it is your turn for a question!

: ) P

PJSander said...

Oops, obviously, that should be S*3*E05!

: ) P

lost4ever said...

PJ Sander " But where does that leave Christian and Claire?"

I don't put these two in the same category. CS died in Austarlia, we have no idea about Claire. I think you and Hammer are dead on about the whispers and the burying rituals. Ben's people know how to properly dispose of the dead on the island. Now I wonder if Martin Keamy and his band of merry mercs had any idea when they took the time to bury Karl and Rousseau. What did Ben do with Alex's body?

What kind of spider bit Nikki and Paulo?

Anonymous said...

PJ,

I wondered about them sending her out to sea to burn also. Ethan, Tom, Roger Workman and many others (no pun intended) didn't get that treatment though. Ben burried his daughter. Time may have been a issue there (hard to avoid possible puns here.)

lost4ever said...

The dharma bodies after the purge were technically not buried. I like the idea of Zack and Emma being Adam and Eve.

Miss Kim said...

A Medusa spider, I believe.

lost4ever said...

Right on Miss Kim

Miss Kim said...

Speaking of "Parent issues" (postd way above), I wonder if Carlotte is really The DeGroot's daughter. They were never confirmed to be dead as far as I know....perhaps they were aware that the purge was inevitable--like Pierre Chang. Possibly they left the island after with Charlotte to ensure her safety.

Miss Kim said...

Charlotte, Daniel, and Miles all seem to have a familiar rapport with each other. Could they all be children of the original Dharma group, raised off the island, but trained/guided in certain areas to serve a purpose to the Dharma cause after the Purge? If Pierre Chang knew what was coming I think that other key Dharma people did as well. Their return to the island may all have been part of an original plan created before the Purge.....

lost4ever said...

I originally thought, way back when Miles was introduced, that he may possibly be related to Dr. Marvin Candle.

PJSander said...

Well Ken Leung, who plays Miles, could CERTAINLY be considered genetically linked to François Chau (who played the man now known as Pierre Chang) if looks are considered. The timing is right for him too, at "roughly thirty years" from then.

Theories are flying again! Hooray for Comic-con! LOL

: ) P

lost4ever said...

He'll always be Dr. Marvin Candle to me.:), or maybe Edgar Halliwax because of the coat and all, or maybe he is like rabbit #15 and there was more than 1 of him, "time-traveling scientists"

I think Miss Kim's up.

Miss Kim said...

Three of the four names associated w/ Pierre Chang have been mentioned here.....(Pierre Chang, Dr. Marvin Candle, Dr.Edgar Halliwax) What is the fourth name?

PJSander said...

Ooh ooh ooh!

Mark Hickman or Wickman. Wickman I think, because I think I remember noticing that Candle, HalliWAX and WICKman are all sort of related.

: ) P

lost4ever said...

Wickman yes. They are all related to Candles. I read that yesterday on Lostpedia.

PJSander said...

Well LOSTpedia says WickMUND, not MAN, but since I was close, I'll give the next question!

In the episode where Locke goes into the sweat lodge and sees Boone, he is traveling through the airport in his vision quest. Which two cast members play airport employees in his vision?

: ) P

lost4ever said...

Right it was Wickmund. The way you capitalized WICK and WAX is the same way LOSTpedia did, that's why I thought you were correct.

I remember the SCOTTISH Desmond being a pilot but I have not seen that episode from Season 3 in a while and I can't remember the other one.

PJSander said...

The people who died in the crash near the fucaloge werr burned. Those who died later were burried. I think the Marchall was burned with the first batch. Just to add info towards the whisperers.

Circus Dork and I restarted season 1 last night. She commented that Vincent has gotten younger and thinner on the island. Could be different dogs used for filming or could mean something. Vincent has gotten thinner and Hurley hasn't.

I am liking the idea of Charlotte and Miles being children of Dharma but I don't think they remember it. Think about Miles and his reaction to the playground. Miles could have been the infant we heard crying in the comic con video. Danielle seemed to actually be there if that was his voice. It could have been meant to represent his father but I think not.

Anonymous said...

I just rewatched the Chang video. I had the volume way up and used good speakers. When the baby cries he says. "Is that Miles. Just take him outside, please" The word Miles was fuzzy and unclear on the other two computers I had used but very clear on our video editing computer with the good speakers. There was also a redheaded woman sitting in the backround.

Got it...first thought is that they are leaning towards the story of saving the purge victims using the time travel mythos. Likely that Miles, Dan and Char are working to save their parents. Brings me back to doch's theory that of a collision of time lines and the whisperers being exposed.

L4E said: I remember the SCOTTISH Desmond being a pilot but I have not seen that episode from Season 3 in a while and I can't remember the other one.

I thought this when I first responded, L4E, but forgot to ask... is there a reason you put Scottish in uppercase letters?

There was a theory on lostpedia that Pierre Chang's different names may stem from him having multiple existences of himself at different time and they may require separate names to be able to distinguish between them. (Like 2 #15 Bunnies....) This makes sense....Chang is also both a popular Chinese AND Korean surname....possible Paik relationship. More than 2% of people in South Korea have the last name of Chang....compare that to the American "Smith" at 1%. So--"Chang" is the "Smith" of Korea. As for the Pierre part???? It's obviously french--kind of like Daniell Rousseau. Interesting. Maybe Rousseau's "science team" was made up of Dharma people and the sickness they encountered was similar to what Minkowski encountered. If this is the case, Alex's paternity is really up for grabs. I'm going out on a limb here.....Ben is one of the good guys. His role in the Purge was necessary for the Dharma intiative to be successful. Alpert and the "Hostiles" are really the good guys too. The original Dharma intiative broke away from it's mission and was allowing Widmore/Hanso/Paik to have control of the Island and it's special properties. A small group of original Dharma people--the DeGroots, Pierre Chang, Danielle Rousseau, and others used their abilities to "time travel" (or whatever we call it) to attempt to circumvent this situation. Ben may have reached a certain point in "time" and may have been "re-born" on the island and will stay in the timeline he is in for as long as he needs to. He may have actually been Alex's biological father but used the adoption story because it made the most sense.

Wow, Miss Kim, you've really been thinkin'! All of it sounds plausible.

"They Moved The Island" is indeed my "team" DocH, good call!

There are now High Quality versions of the videos from Comic-con at DarkUFO. Look at the "test" one on the left, you will see Carlton and Damon make "cameos" in it!

I listened to this better quality sound on the Pierre Chang video. Still didn't hear "Miles" but this time, it sounded like "Dammit Laura, just take him outside, please!"

Try that video on your good sound equipment, Circus Mom. See what you hear this time! LOL

Oh hey, in one of the first few episodes of season three (Every Man for Himself, I think), Ben whips out a baton and takes his grief out on Sawyer. It looks a LOT like the baton that had everybody talking in season four. Just throwing that out there *g*.

has any one thought that the coffin i mean casket in the 1st season 5th episode is the exact same casket as the one jeramy bentham aka locke was in. me and my mom went over the casket in the first season and the one jeramy was in and they are exactly the same. if you mean time traveling bunnies then yes!

lost4ever said...

Do you have a link to that theory on Lostpedia Miss Kim? I thought the same thing a couple of days ago and would like to read more about it.

Are you talking about the casket that CS was supposed to be in Circus Dork? That is very interesting. I wonder if there are any screencaps of the 2.

Got me DocH. Linus is lost4ever.

PJSander said...

Okay, here is a screencap of Christian's burial chamber (I don't know the difference between a coffin and a casket *G*):

http://tinyurl.com/6kx7h8

And here is one of Bentham/Locke's:

http://tinyurl.com/6fy3an

I don't think they are the same.

: ) P

PJSander said...

Btw, according to Webster online, there *IS* no real difference between a coffin and a casket.

casket: a usually fancy coffin

coffin: a box or chest for burying a corpse

Does anyone know if there is some kind of ideological difference? I mean, I think on the big island, someone was up in arms over calling it one thing over another.

: ) P

lost4ever said...

Nice PJ. Definitely not the same but it was good thought. I don't know of any difference between a coffin or casket. Same thing to me.
I'm sure it was the same baton that Ben used on Sawyer. But I have not seen that episode in a while.

lost4ever said...

Wow. That just reminded me of one of the airport employess in Locke's dream. Wasn't Ben a screener?

PJSander said...

Very good, L4E. Ben was screener! Still one more cast member who was an airport employee... anyone?

OK, in the screnecaps the coffins look slightly different, but close. Here is what I woke up thinking when I thought they were the same. Perhaps with the coffins slightly different the theory could still hold, lets say if Benand Jack had moved Locke toa different doffin.

We see Jack arguing in the airport that his fathers body HAS to be on that plane. The aireline employee says they can't without the proper paperwork. Later we see the undead Christian and a coffin on the island and we KNOW Jack got him on the plane. Now lets say he didn't. No paperwork, no coffin on the plane. So, Without to much detail yet here are some follow up "facts" and proofs/ideas that could be true if Christian's body never made it on the plane.

When Claire asked Jack to say a few words for the dead when they burnied the fucaloge he got upset. Perhaps because he was stopped from taking his father home to burry.

Jack keeps seeing Christian, on of the "undead". Perhaps a different versian of Christian. Christian #8 or #15.

The reason Christians memorial was soo long after the O6 returned is because Christion from Sydney, and his coffin, were still in Sydney waiting for the paperwork. Something that Jacks mother didn't do when Jacks plane went down because she was so upset at loosing her husband AND son.

The coffin found in the cave was found near Adam and Eve. I am voting for Jack and Kate or Aaron and Jiyoung for that now. At least for someone who is off island and needs to return.

In season 1 Kate says "I don't want to be Eve. Foreshadowing?

Claire is seen with Christian in Jacobs cabin and we assume this means she died. Perhaps it is Christian # 15 and Claire is acting weird because Christian has explained much of what has happened to her. Perhaps that is Claire #15 and our Claire is somewhere else.

OK, have fun with it. I know it came from the Casket possible match but I could still go with it.

I listened to the Chang video on Dark UFO and that was still fuzzy on most of the computers. The youtube version is cleared audio on all for me and still on the BOSE speakers it sounds clear that he is saying "Is that Miles?"

Can anyone contact one of the sound experts that translate the whispers and get them to sort it out?

This makes a lot of sense, CM. I mean, TPTB are regularly doing a bait and switch with us, right?

We see the arguing at the airport. We see the empty coffin. We just jump to the wrong conclusion. (Who says it *IS* Christian's anyway, right?)

Hmmm.

At first, I TRIED to do that, but there were SO many parameters that I just wound up feeling pissy about the whole thing!

L4E: I found the Pierre Chang "multiple existences" theory in the theory section of "Pierre Chang": http://lostpedia.com/wiki/Pierre_Chang/Theories
doc: 90%? I feel so ordinary. I fancy myself as thinking outside the box...me and the other 90% of people I guess....:(
Circus People: I like your theories on Christian's casket/coffin. The "undead" Christian is simply the real Christian that has travelled to Island time from another timeline. Possibly more than one visit.....Remember the mobisode or whatever w/ Christian sending Vincent to wake up Jack? Christian could have travelled to the exact point in time that he knew the plane crashed to "check on things". Could this theory be the same as the way Harper appeared to Juliet w/ her message from Ben to stop Charlotte and Daniel from their mission at the Temple? Harper disappeared when Juliet and Jack were distracted by whispers. Maybe the whispers are part of time travel--who ever is assisting the person entering Island time from a different timeline/or simply manipulating the situation from another timeline without sending a person to Island time can be heard making observations about the situation they are attempting to manipulate. (Sorry Hammer) If this is the case, what's up with all of the "undead" and such? There's a whole lotta folks on the "Save Dharma" team--Libby, Walt, Charlie....Also--I am not convinced that the off island occurances we have seen are happening when we think they are happening. Sometimes we have been given actual dates--but sometimes not. A little something to think about.....

Casket Vs. Coffin
From wikipedia
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coffin
Any box used to bury the dead in is a coffin. Use of the word "casket" in this sense began as a euphemism introduced by the undertaker's trade in North America; a "casket" was originally a box for jewelry. Some Americans draw a distinction between "coffins" and "caskets"; for these people, a coffin is a tapered hexagonal or octagonal (also considered to be anthropodial in shape) box used for a burial. A rectangular burial box with a split lid used for viewing the deceased is called a "casket".

Researchers speculate that time travel can occur within a kind of feedback loop where backwards movement is possible, but only in a way that is "complementary" to the present. (Greenberger, Svozil and Pegg)

L4E said: They stated at Comic Con that their time travel is different then anything seen on TV. The future can not be changed.

It is apparent that some sort of time travel is occuring. The producers have contradicted themselves on more than one occassion. Perhaps "contradicted" is too harsh of a word. For example, they may have said that there was no time travel....but were referring to a specific question or scenario. It may not have meant that never ever ever in the show would it not be possible. The "cloning" theory has been debunked--however--cloning and replication have different meanings when referring to a database. So, even though there is no "cloning" occuring, is "replication" possible? Fate vs. Free Will is a huge theme in LOST. What's to say that TPTB don't have their own solution to avoid any paradoxes? I recall hearing something the producers said about the new CERN project being very interesting to possible developments on the show.....I am not trying to be argumentative--I simply am attempting to point out that with a plethora of ideas and terminology to work with, teleportation, "conscience" shifting of time, course correction, alternate universe, parallel universe, etc., etc., I think that time travel that manipulates "destiny" and past and future events w/out any paradoxes is a distinct possibility.

lost4ever said...

Miss Kim: "It is apparent that some sort of time travel is occuring."

Completely agree. They are just using their own unique versions of it. At least, that is what they are leading us to believe. When they stated that future events cannot be changed, who knows. That could easily be another ruse to throw us off. However, Pierre Chang stated in the video that this was true. The purge was inevitable, so for now, I am going to have to believe that is a "rule" they are playing by. Which makes sense with their explanation, through Mrs. Hawking, of course-correction. The man with the red shoes was going to die, just as, dare I say it here, so was Charlie. But I am sure they could "modify" their statements as they see fit, just as you said, they have before.:)

Winner Winner Chicken Dinner - sounds like I need to come up with a FOOD question! LOL

What was the first (only?) DHARMA food that the LOSTies fed to "Henry" in the hatch?

That reminds me... Several people on the big island mentioned seeing the Widmore logo on Henry's hot-air balloon. I have seen those episodes now and did not see it even though I was looking for it. Was that in another ARG thing that I haven't seen, maybe?

Miss Kim said...

I keep thinking about Aaron. He was conceived in "off Island time" yet born in "Island time." (The same goes for Sun's baby--but the opposite--conceived "Island time", born "off Island time.") Could this somehow defy the time travel paradox? If you're conceived in the future but born in the past, or vice versa, can you do something to change events? Especially taking into account that one of these "places" has time moving more slowly or more quickly than the other.....I'm trying to figure out how this would apply to the Grandfather paradox.......
