Can you even stand it?

Season 5 is about to start, and barring an actors' strike, snowstorms in Hawaii, or a freak accident in the offices at Bad Robot, we should get the entire season without any breaks. Will it live up to expectations? We only have to wait a little longer:

Is it 9:00? Is it? Is it? Nope. Not yet. I still have time to finish a few things around the house, finish grading, put the kid to bed, and be in front of the TV. Can't wait, can't wait, can't wait.................

I...CAN'T...WAIT! ;)

But the whispers ARE coming.

Hammer said...

Penny for you thoughts Miss Kim.

Miss Kim said...

I'm thinkin' that the first scene we saw hasn't really happened yet......by this I mean it is a FF. (With Faraday) It's where in time our Island friends wind up.....

Miss Kim said...

Faraday is trying to assimilate into the Dharma peeps to get info on the "force" (wheel, magnet, whatever).

Hammer said...

Yep I think you got it. And Miles is Candle's kid.

Hammer said...

Dan keeps saying that you can't change the past. I think that's what Ben meant when he told Widmore he broke the rules. He changed something.....

Hammer said...

And now we know why Widmore hates Dez....the rules don't apply to him.

Hammer said...

Whisperers!!!! Ana Lucia is a whisperer, I'm tellin' ya.

Miss Kim said...

What's up w/ Charlotte's nosebleed? Time travel sickness? I'm doubting that. Maybe Miles is next....if he (or Charlotte) are headed closer to a time where they are already existing.....might one of their "selves" have to go?

Miss Kim said...

Dead? Not Dead? Medusa Spider?

Miss Kim said...

Dude....quiznos is movin' in on the Domino's LOST fans.........

Hammer said...

Charlotte needs a constant. Locke is dead off the island but will be alive on the island...rules don't apply to the special ones....

Lindsay said...

Miles is totally Candle's kid...that was a little predictable though...

Miss Kim said...

Ben's friends in the police cars that Hurley ran to?

Miss Kim said...

Maybe not.

PJSander said...

Maybe the cops are WIDMORE peeps?

Do you remember when we saw the Halliwax video, and I said I hear Daniel's voice off-camera? Whoo hoo.

So much to process.

Best line: "Libby says hi."

: ) P

Hammer said...

My favorite line was Hugo..."Bloop."

PJSander said...

That was also good - there were several that made me chuckle. Can't wait for the transcripts to see them again! LOL

When we saw Mrs. Hawking scribbling on a chalkboard, I expected that to be Daniel's mother. I guess it still COULD be!

: ) P

Hammer said...

Yeah I think she is his Mom, sort of obvious.

PJSander said...

Unless that is what they WANTED us to think! LOL.

The big island is gettin' jiggy....

Hammer said: And now we know why Widmore hates Dez....the rules don't apply to him.

Good catch, Hammer.

Here’s one for ya…how about Miles knowing there was a dead bore in the jungle and new how long it was dead????

Anonymous said...

PJSander said...

Well Miles hears dead people, maybe he hears dead boars too? How he knew where to FIND the boar, I have no idea! LOL

: ) P

Miss Kim said...

That puzzled me too. Also, he was very confident that he would be finding food when he left the group in search of getting something for everyone to eat.

PJSander said...

Doc H said: notables - Neil Frogurt gets in the Act - he was wearing a red shirt for crying out loud - had to die.

I said that on the big island, Doc H! LOL.

"There were a few predictable things… but probably NOT for the “average” LOST viewer (which clearly we are not). Mrs. Hawking is a good example. And bringing Frogurt to the forefront just to kill him off was typical LOST redshirt expenditure."

Great post, Doc H. I agree on every point.

Sun is definitely up to something. Maybe *SHE* was the one who sent the "lawyers" to scare Kate. Timing was a little too perfect, you know?

: ) P

Hammer said...

I think Sun would like to get them together like Ben wants....to get her shot at him.

Miss Kim said...

I thought the same thing PJ. That would mean if Sun wants Ben dead, she may be keeping her friends close and her enimies closer. Perhaps she is helping Ben by recruit Kate so she can ultimately seek her revenge upon him.

Hammer said...

Great minds Kim...

PJSander said...

Weird, there are only 60 odd comments on the big island and already it is timing out. The show isn't even over in Mountain time yet!

Lots of newbies there, too. I expected a few more "regulars" by now! LOL

Okay, so here is a question for you... we saw the island "bloop" as it were. If it were ONLY moving in TIME, the island would still BE THERE, unless it moved to a time before it existed - you know, like before the volcano erupted.

Chew on that a while, because it has me befuddled.

: ) P

Hammer said...

Yeah PJ, that one is something we are going to have to wait for.

Bedtime for Bonzo…but as usual, I leave you with this:

Charlotte’s nose bleeds will be for eveyone, it’s going to be the reason Locke has to get everyone back, to stop the sickness….or they’ll all die.

LOVED it when Hurley threw the hot pocket at Ben...holy cow that was funny!

The hurled hot pocket was hilarious. I think that D&C must LOVE writing for Hurley.

Doc H said: One more question. Where were Penny and Des when he goes to 'raise anchor'? I thought I saw snow on the shores where they were parked.

Well where you saw snow, I saw white single level buildings up a mountaing! LOL. I thought they were near Greece. That is a doable journey to England. They are in hiding I imagine, so I don't know what going to find Faraday's mother will do to that story.

: ) P

Lindsay said...

i think sun was trying to convince kate that she had to keep aaron safe as a cover for kate to think she can trust sun. when ben or jack or whoever comes to collect kate and aaron to take them back to the island, this trust in sun will force her to choose, and ultimately possibly lead sun/widmore to ben.

mrs. hawking freaks me out, what was all that equipment she was working on! is she the only one that knows when and where the island is? does widmore even know about her? if she really is dan's mom, how will des find her if she's in l.a. when he thinks he's supposed to go to oxford?

quite an episode, going to bed for now, but will re-watch and post more questions tomorrow! i love being on central time for this season instead of pacific time!!

PJSander said...

I don't remember the exact words, but Daniel said something about the zodiac being "inside the ring" or something. He was slightly surprised to see the island, but not unhappy.

You remember when Daniel and Charlotte were "guessing" or "remembering" the cards? Maybe Daniel was practicing going forward in time and coming back?

Wow. I thought we got a lot of answers, and now I have a lot more questions. I still loved it!

: ) P

PJSander said...

Oh and when Daniel said he needed to go back to a structure that had been built, I figured they'd end up back at ole four toes and we would see how he/she used to look!

Were we supposed to know the lady from the butcher shop? She looked familiar, but I am not sure if it is from LOST or another show!

Miss Kim said...

Good morning fellow losties. A thought: Whoever is behind Aaron's maternity questioning is possibly secondary at this point. The bigger issue IS that someone wants Aaron. Kate will do wahatever it takes to protect him--including going back to the Island. Ben wants Kate to go back. Sun wants Ben to die. If Sun is (pretending) to work w/ Ben she may want to get Aaron and Kate and PREVENT them from returning, thus causing Ben's demise. Of course, it could also go the other way. I think Aaron himself may be the instrumental part of the story though. His role in all of this is key. (As may be Ji Yeon, which is a "non-casting" reason that Sun only had a baby picture of what should be a 2 1/2ish year old.) How will the Island's time travelling affect them?
Hard for me to decide if John is really dead. I'm inclined to think the Medusa Spider is involved. (I know, I know--broken record! However, that whole Nikki/Paolo thing bugged me. They seemed pointless except for the not-so itsy bitsy spider part.) Damn, I love this show.

PJSander said...

Yeah, Medusa Spider! When Ben was in the butcher shop and asked the woman to take care of Locke, I suspected Locke wasn't really dead.

"You have to die, John," Ben tells Locke before he turns the wheel. HUH?

: ) P

Hammer said...

I can buy that Locke isn't really dead. But not the spiders. They have used drugs many times on the show. Sawyer's group getting darted, the rabbit Ben showed Sawyer, etc. Carmen thinking Sayid was not breathing may have been a hint that the darts have the same drug used on Locke...and that since Sayid had a falling out with Ben, it was Ben's men that drugged Sayid. Ben set it all up.

ESB said...

okay, so i got a job these days that does not allow me to post theories and long drawn out opinions like i'd like to...but i will definitely be reading all of yours and chiming in when i can...;)

so, AWESOME beginning to the season..my two favorite moments were the cameo by Ana Lucia and when Hurley throws the hot pocket...;)

LOST is back! ;)

Hammer said...

PJ, Saw your catch on Dennis and Frank. It's too bad the guys on the big island aren't giving the blog more attention. It would be nice if they gave some of us reg. some rights to deleted spoilers before everyone sees them.

PJSander said...

I like the idea of Ben "allowing" Walt to leave the island because he fears that Walt might be the one who is meant to take over as leader of the Others.

Will Walt have "to go back" do you think?

: ) P

Hammer said...

I guess Walt's requirement to go back depends on WHY the O6+ Locke have to go back. The heli was away from the islands radius when it moved, so I'm LOST as to why they ALL have to go back. At first I was thinking 'special' people like Locke, Hugo, Aaron, maybe Jack. But that doesn't explain Sun, Kate or Sayid. Soooo maybe if you leave...you must EVENTUALLY come back. The O6+ Locke are required to hit a window that Michael didn't have to because he died before the island moved?

PJSander said...

Well now here's a thought... three years have passed since the O6 left the island. During that time, Ben visited Widmore in London and told him that he would kill his daughter ("Penelope is it?")

What if the O6 going "back" has NOTHING to do with Sawyer, Juliet, et al? What if Ben is making that up because he figures it is the way to find Penny?

Sun is working with Widmore on the surface. Who knows is she is really working for Ben. I would think she blames Widmore just as much as Ben for Jin's death.

I wonder if the off-island "three years later" scenes were shown in chronological order?

We know that "in the past" Daniel visits Desmond, who "remembers" in a dream and wants to find Daniel's mother. Perhaps, if that happened chronologically earlier than the lawyers showing up at Kate's house, Sun has heard from Daniel's mother and knows things... like that Jin is actually alive, for example. Just offering up ideas here...

: ) P

Hammer said...

PJ, I can buy the Sun is a double agent. She said she wants Ben dead and blames him, but maybe she knows Widmore actually owned the freighter. It is weird that Sun is trying to get Kate's attention.

Anonymous said...

know you meant dead boar (pig)... not dead bore - that would have been Horace Goodspeed.

Good to see Rose and Bernie still mixing it up. I thought for sure Juliet was going to lose a hand. Something about Sun tonite tells me she knows more than she lets on... getting cornered by Widmore on her way to L.A.

OK, doing my Dharma job now. You caught Boar but mispelled tonight in the same comment. Very unlike you.

I just watched this morning. Had to work last night and on my way out now. VERY excited.

Anonymous said...

The island is unstuck in time and the O6, Locke, etc are the islands constant. They have to go back to stick the island back in time.

Sun told her father she blames two people for Jin's death. Him and.....Ben, Widmore, Kate? She indicated Ben as the second one she blames.

Going to check the big island now. Have only 3 minutes.

By the way. I said Ana Lucia out loud to myself when I noticed it was a female officer getting out of the car. I was still shocked when it WAS her.

PJSander said...

So did I Circus Mom! I was thrilled to see her. I had heard that we would be seeing a character we hadn't seen in long time. Naturally I was hoping it was Charlie, but Ana-Lucia was a wonderful second choice! LOL.

PJSander said...

Doc H said: Sayid & Ben having a future rift? That may be manufactured by Widmore & Sun. OR Sayid found out that Ben had something to with Nadia's death.

I HOPE that Ben didn't have anything to do with Nadia's death. He has talked about not harming innocents and that would be terrible. Maybe Nadia's death was an accident, but he manufactured evidence to suggest Widmore arranged it. I always thought it was odd that Sayid would just look at that traffic cam photo and suddenly accept Ben's "truth" about what happened.

Hi I am lost4ever and I am a Lostaholic.

I have not a had a chance to catch up with the big island, but I have read all the comment here.

I too liked "Libby says Hi". It may have been because Ana looked hotter than ever though. I also thought of the 4-toed statue when Faraday said they needed something "man"-made.

I love the Sun double agent theory.

Not really sure if Mrs' Hawking is Faraday's father, although it would make sense. Was Mrs Hawking in L.A.? I missed it. I didn't catch where they were.

I think Locke is dead off the island. If not I would be really disappointed. That would take away from the suspense of last year's finale and possibly be a jump the shark moment. JMO

Any thoughts on who those people were that tried to cut off Juliet's arm? Was it Rosseau's band of merry men or even maybe Widmore himself ( Did Locke kill all of them )?

The end was the best part. They have definitely had much better premiers, 4 of them IMO. Hopefully I can catch up on the big island by Monday, but for now, I'm gonna make camp here. I hope it doesn't disappear.:)

lost4ever said...

I for got to add one other thing. It really makes sense now how the OTHERS were so taken by John Locke. Not only was he paralyzed and could walk, He was ACTUALLY on their island BEFORE his plane crashed.
AMAZING.

lost4ever said...

I'm not sure when Ben would have had the chance to be involved in Nadia's death, unless he planned it before turning the wheel. He turned the wheel, jumped forward 10 months, killed a couple of guys; then showed up at a hotel all dusty, dirty and bleeding, asking the date. Was there a lapse of time I am not accounting for?

PJSander said...

Hi L4E! Long time no see! A lot to process, huh?!

That makes sense, Doc H.

Their obsession with cutting off Juliet's hand makes me wonder if they had anything to do with "Montand's arm." But if they are WWII guys, then the timing is wrong.

: ) P

PJSander said...

Okay, let me throw one out there... Had Rousseau ever said anything about how long she has been on the island? I know we think she had been there sixteen years because of the distress call. What if she (either before she had Alex or together with Alex) got bumped in time? Maybe the distress call was sixteen years ago, but she ARRIVED on the island many years before that? She told Sayid she had never seen any of the Others (but she had heard them - probably Whisperers). Yet our LOSTies run into them ALL the time. How can she have gone sixteen years never running across a single one?

The theory doesn't make a lot of sense, but I am hoping one of you will jump in with something to knock it down or flesh it out.

: ) P

ESB said...

i'm with ya PJ...i think it is EXTREMELY hard to believe that Rousseau had never seen any of the others...but i also thought it was extremely weird that all the Polar Bears hadn't been killed by Rousseau or the others long before the Losties arrived so what do i know? ;) Rousseau was supposed to be looney-tunes tho so maybe she wasn't telling it straight...?

Anonymous said...

I suppose it would be easier for the others to avoid one woman who kept to herself than a plane full of losties trapising through the jungle.

The others also saw the plane coming and sought out our friends. They would possibly not know about Rousseau's boat.

Still, she could have been lying.

ESB said...

i just thought of this but weren't we also all lead to believe that Ben kidnapped Rousseau's daughter and claimed she was? Now just how did that happen if Rousseau had never seen the others or if the others didn't know about Rousseau? hmmm...;)

Anonymous said...

If Danielle has been on the island for 16 years and the purge hapened 12 years ago then Ben was Dharma when he kidnapped Alex. That brings up the question, How did Danielle survive the purge?

ESB said...

excellent question...and i have absolutely no answer...;) anyone? anyone?

PJSander said...

The question of how Danielle survived the purge has been raised a lot. My only thought is that other than Ben's father (who got his own canister), the rest of the DHARMA folks seemed to be concentrated in one area (that we saw). Perhaps it was a very localized gas?

Good to see the Rouseau comments. Some of you may remember I had some vigorous debates on the big island about how I never beleived her story and that she was much more involved with the Others than most folks think....facts are coming soon.

Hammer said...

BTW, I'm sooo glad no one responded to Bobola on the big island....so counter productive. I also noticed that there are very few 'repeat' posts. It seems most people are actually reading all the posts.

With the exception of a couple episode preview posts....pretty clean.

PJSander said...

I agree with you on all counts there, Hammer!

Generally, I don't read the name at the top of the post, I just read the post and then if I think it was interesting, etc., I look to see who wrote it. I can generally tell when it is a little islander writing, and I recognize ToeKnee's writing as well. FWIW, Lostpedia refers to the character as Jill and says she was first seen in "The Lie". The actress playing Jill is named Mary Mara and this is the first episode that she has been given credit for being in. Not sure how helpful this is to y'all...........

Miss Kim said...

OK. Ahem. Ummmmm..........Hammer, I'd like to fly something by you. Is it possible that the time travelling that is occurring could possibly have something to do w/ the whispers? I mean--if they are "stuck" somewhere, like "skipping" through time, like the record was skipping, the whispers could be the way they are manifesting themselves without actually changing stuff that has already occured/is occuring in the timeline. Just a thought.

Anonymous said...

Flying questions by Hammer, Senora Kim? What? We are not worthy? There are more than a few 'whisper whisperers' here.
-- DocH

Miss Kim said...

I adressed Hammer by name, but surely by posting it here I anticipate all to read and all to comment. (Hope this doesn't sound defensive--I am grinning at the computer as I write this. Writing sometimes loses the feelings behind the words.) I figured if I was gonna take a theory head-on I should be direct about it. I know I should be looking back and reviewing your theories pertaining to the whisperers DocH (and the rest of y'all) but would appreciate you posting a refresher if you would be so kind. EVERYONE here is MORE than worthy imo--With my limited knowledge of physics and sci-fiction I usually feel like a student challenging the great mind of Einstein. (For the record--I really hope that there are smart people challenging his theories as well!!!!) LOST has provided an opportunity to me to appreciate an all new genre with some of the themes about time travel, technology, and scientific principles that contradict known laws of nature. I've learned SOOOOO much in the past few years and I'm loving every minute of it. Still, I'm definately a newbie to this type of genre, and as such, am not as confident in my own theories as I probably should be. I do like challenging them though--so keep 'em coming!!!!!

Hammer said...

Absolutely Kim, there maybe more than one 'cause' to make one a whisperer. Thay could be made of folks that died on/off the island and are 'stuck' in the island's time (not the outside world's time) and folks that are alive and 'stuck'.

If you haven't already, you may want to re-read the transcripts again. My brain swirls when I read them after several episodes for more clues. I am still convinced that many of the whispers heard so far are from people we have seen die on the island. Like Boone talking to Shannon before and after she dies. But there are voices from folks we haven't seen yet, so they may or may not be dead.

They say things like 'we should talk to him' or 'don't let him see you', which is very intriguing and is what makes me think folks like Charlie, Christian, Ana Lucia are whisperers NOW deciding they need to show themselves.

Then there is the time when Ben's mom is convinced to show herself and talk to Ben. She didn't die on the island, but died off it.

Frank Duckett's voice is heard when Sawyer hears whispers, he died in Australia.

Soooo, yes Miss Kim I very much think the skipping time can me involved.

Hammer said...

Thanks for getting the brain pumping....here's a thought.

The whisperers are not likely folks like the Others that are NOT skipping through time. Alpert told Locke when he sees him again he won't remember him and will need the compass as verification. Why wouldn't he just whisper and show up when needed?

Another thought, are the whisperers even able to whisper to skipping folks?

Hammer said...

Miss Kim,

I also posted this after the S4E episode on the Whisper thread the big island gave me last season:

Hammer
Comment 50, posted 1 week, 3 days ago - Quote and reply
After watching the enhanced S4 finale, I really think that the whisperers are “trapped” by the island’s time traveling abilities. I think that Jacob is the leader of the whisperers and that they help the Others in defending the island. Jacob and the whisperers are possibly looking for someone (maybe Locke) that has the ability to “set them free”.

Miss Kim said...

Could some of the whispers be kind of like Desmond's dream "remembering" that Faraday told him to go and find his mother at Oxford? Desmond is "special" so he can clearly remember and act on situations that have be er....um...modified at some point in time. Walt is special so people can see him when he "whispers" to them. Hurley is special but doesn't know it yet. (If not special--something. Something's definately up w/ Hurley.) Non-special people can't appear to anyone or affect the past/present so they are whispers. If time is "looping" and people are travelling through this loop what will happen when they come upon themselves? Can they only get close--like a whisper? I have this feeling that we ar so close to getting enough information to start saying "AHA" and having things start to unfold and fall into place. I think that there will be more to the story--like Marvin Candle, PF Chang, or whatever his name is becoming involved w/ the travelling that is going on. If Daniel infiltrates the DI when our friends wind up in the original Dharma time (I believe that scene was a ff) then maybe Candle will be within the radius and travel w/ them. It was strange that the Sawyer shirt thing was brought up and also strange that it was discussed that things you have w/ you when you skip will skip w/ you. Does that go for people too?

Hammer said...

Miss Kim, I suppose it's possible. But when I read them, they really seem like things being said from folks that have died ABOUT folks that are still alive. I think you are asking that maybe they can't show themselves because they should not see THEMSELVES from another time, no? But the scripts seem more like dead folks talking about OTHER live folks and to them. I didn't notice any of them being advisory to the alive folks. The whisperers seemed liked they were talking to each other. Having said that, I do agree you that time travel/skipping has something to do with it.

Hammer said...

Oh and the PF Chang reference was funny. Love the food...pricey, but tasty.

What can we figure out about the arrow attack?

I'm watching a movie about time travel on SIFI and they keep showing the comercial with Charlie saying, "Guys, where are we." I keep wanting him to say when.

Hammer said...

CM, I am wanting to say that the arrow attack was from the 'original' inhabitants of the island, but I don't remember seeing a time skip between the arrow attack and military types finding them?

Hammer said...

Ouch CM!! You made me just blow out the upper left wing of my brain.

PJSander said...

Yowzer. Good question CM. My thoughts are that D&C wouldn't do that to us, but I think it COULD be possible that anyone who was on the island in a PRIOR time jump, turn of the FDW, COULD in essence be jumping with our guys.

I honestly hope they don't go there, because as confused as *we* are, the average viewer is FINE right now, because they accept the story as it is. They start confusing the average viewer and I think there may be an exodus on their hands. JMO.

: ) P

Anonymous said...

Well, I don't think they would be traveling "with" us. Our paths just may cross once or twice. Either that or there are certain precalculated stops when the island travels and everyone runs into the same time. That could help explain how Mrs. Hawkins can know where they will be in 70 hours.

Just a minor note. 70 hours is 4200 minutes.

I have read some whispers transcripts from DarkUFO and some of them are definately from the Boone's of the world, (dead people), but others really seem to be observing and commenting on situations that are occurring, and some, specifically the torture scene in "One of Them", seem to be speaking about and to Ben/Henry and the situation at hand: Maybe we should have stopped it / him
Try to execute
We've got to see if we can get through to him
(Sayid: Tell me about this balloon)
Get off for a second
(Henry: What?)
Something's blocking it / It's right beside him
(Sayid: This balloon that brought you here with your wife)
Go ahead and do it
Might have heard from him / My eyes hurt
(Henry: What do you want to know)
Is he gonna give it away
He's interrogating him
(Sayid: Everything)
Calmly begin speaking and act completely...
So it's okay...
We can get you through this ordeal
We are minding the radio
(Henry: She's a hundred and forty feet high, sixty feet wide...)
It ain't sixty feet...
It can't be much taller than that... maybe a hundred footer
(Henry: and when she's up in the air, 550,000 cubic feet of helium...)
Clearly he thought you were on top if it / Clearly he's not too on top of it
That gives more to do
(Henry: And if you could look down on her...)
He's on to him
Probably blew it
(Henry: you'd see a...)
So he buys it
He played him
(Henry: big yellow smiley face on top)
It's not quite ready
I need help
They don't believe him
(Sayid: Why would you travel in that way?)
Tell him "for my business"
Why else would he do it
(Henry: Because I was rich...)
Any country might have fit
Just stay calm and he won't hurt you
(Henry: It was my dream)
I know you're doing something
Screwed something up / He *beep* it up
I don't know how else to put it

I didn't see this on the transcripts on Lostpedia...maybe the transcripts from DarkUFO aren't the ones I should be referring to?

Hammer said...

Yeah, Miss Kim, that's why I agree that they are not all from dead folks and you could very well be correct that the time travel is involved. The whispers are just as confusing as anything else on the show...just too important to the plot to expose just yet.

Hammer said...

I haven't seen the ones on darkufo. I'll check them out too. I've admittedly based my whole theory on the lostpedia ones and admitted in my orginal theory that it all relies on the accuracy of the people that put them there. :)

Are the transcripts from DarkUFO....reliable? IYO--and anyone's opinion.....

What I like about the ones you just posted explain how the whisperers were talking to Ben and helping him to seem omnicient...like he's done before...'I always have a plan'...

Did you notice of dark ufo had anything on the S4 finale whispers? Lostpedia still has nothing on that.

Off to bed, check you all on the morrow.

What DarkUFO says about The Whispers:
These are the LOST Whisper Transcripts courtesy of Penyours and RvTurnage from The Fuselage.

Some whispers, like those in the jungle, are easily heard by all. Others are buried in the audio tracks and cannot be heard without special effort.

They also have downloadable mps if you want to hear them yourself....though I can't hear anything usually. You need special equiptment to seperate the tracks, run things backward, etc.

Miss Kim said...

Here's a link to some dialog pertaining to how exactly these whispers are pulled out of the show........

The Whispers are why Ben always has a plan! Brilliant. Maybe that is why he seems to hesitate before answering sometimes. Like he is waiting to let the Whisperers finish.

I LOVE IT!

Looks like the big island is skipping again.

PJSander said...

There is a lot of "chatter" on the big island and there are a lot of subjects being thrown out there. So in our small group, I would like to discuss Daniel's statement to Sawyer about Desmond, "Because Desmond didn’t know you when he first came out of there. That means you never met which means you can’t meet."

There is a disparity between that, and the fact that Locke and Ethan meet. I think that maybe Daniel wasn’t telling Sawyer the truth because he didn’t want Sawyer to spook Desmond and sabotage Daniel’s chance to get a message to his mother.

What do you think?

: ) P

Hammer said...

I like your thinking here. Although, I also think it's possible that what he was saying that 'can't' actually means 'shouldn't' because it will mess things up. Like how Ethan was going to kill Locke, if the time skip didn't happen, all hell would have broken loose if Ethan killed Locke in the wrong time.

We already know/think that Ethan shot Locke by the plane making him 'crippled' when he went near it.

Hammer said...

BTW, I think I know why you want to discuss this one here. ;)

PJSander said...

Hammer, m'dear... I expect you do know that! LOL.

I like your thought pattern. Daniel said "can't" but meant "shouldn't." Because Desmond could well have shot Sawyer, just as Ethan could well have shot Locke.

Makes sense.

Remember too that Locke is special. We assume he is traveling with everyone else but who knows.

Also, perhaps Daniels book told him he had already knocked on the hatch and talked to Desmond. Then he wouldn't be changing the past.

whew, the big island is getting a little bit confusing (and in some cases, annoying) and i appreciate that the thoughts on here are much more concise and easy to understand...perhaps because we have been reading each other's posts for more than a few days...anyway, i love the idea that the whisperers are affected by the island's weird time travel properties, that could really make some sense in this show. i am a little confused about the whole ethan/locke thing, but if locke is special like desmond is special, perhaps the rules don't apply to him either. there was a lot of mention of rules, but how many of them are really rules and how many are more like suggestions...anyway, keep the theories coming, i love to read them (when i have time between caring for sick children!)

Circus Mom said: Remember too that Locke is special. We assume he is traveling with everyone else but who knows.

Well Locke ends up in the same time as Sawyer and Juliet, so I am not sure that rings true for me. I think we have a while to wait until we find out what "special" means with respect to Locke.

I'm reading the transcripts before I comment.....came across this and found it interesting....
(In the jungle, it is night, and the survivors traipse on.)

CHARLOTTE: Hey, do you think he's looking for us?

MILES: Who?

CHARLOTTE: Widmore.

MILES: It took him, like, 20 years to find this place the first time. I'll start holding my breath now.

JULIET: Over here!

Kind of gives us something to work with I suppose.....a timeframe of sorts. Could just be 20 years that they are aware of but could be 20 since Widmore knew where/when the Island was...

Miss Kim said...

This clears things up, right?
Footsteps approach. Locke unsheathes his knife. The footsteps grow nearer. Locke points his knife. Richard Alpert emerges from the darkness carrying a torch.)

LOCKE: Richard?

(Locke puts down his knife.)

RICHARD: Hey, John.

LOCKE: Richard... what is happening?

RICHARD: What's happening is that you're bleeding to death. Here.

(Locke grunts and groans.)

RICHARD: I need to get the bullet out.

LOCKE: How did you know there was a bullet in my leg, Richard?

RICHARD: Because you told me there was, John.

(Richard unzips his backpack and takes out a first aid kit.)

LOCKE: No, no. No, I didn't.

RICHARD: Well... you will.

(Panting)

LOCKE: It was Ethan who shot me.

RICHARD: Well... (donning eyeglasses) what comes around, goes around.

(Richard pours some alcohol onto Locke's wound.)

LOCKE: Aah! When am I?

RICHARD: Well, John, that--that's all relative.

(Richard puts some tweezers toward Locke's wound.)

LOCKE: Wait, wait. T up... where did you go?

RICHARD: I didn't go anywhere, John. You went. All right, this--this is gonna hurt. It'll be a lot worse if you move, okay? Hold still.

(Locke inhales sharply. Squishing sounds accompany Richard's probing with the tweezers.)

LOCKE: Uhh!

(Richard extractst the bullet.)

RICHARD: All done.

LOCKE: (Panting) Jeez.

(Instruments clatter as Richard packs up again.)

LOCKE: I don't understand. How--how did you know that I was here? How did you know where to find me?

RICHARD: I wish I had time to explain it, John. But you're gonna be moving on soon, and we need to go over a couple of things before you do.

LOCKE: "Moving on"? Aah!

(Richard presses gauze to John's leg.)

RICHARD: Sorry. The first thing, okay?

(Locke groans.)

RICHARD: You're gonna need to clean out the wound every couple of hours and keep as much weight off the leg as you can, all right? The Island'll do the rest, John, all right?

LOCKE: But I don't--

So if this IS true, then Rousseau COULD ostensibly be the last team that made it to the island. She may not know she was part of his team, or she may and decided it didn't matter.

Miss Kim said...

Maybe Daniel could "meet" Desmond and Sawyer couldn't because technically Desmond had already "met" Daniel at Oxford in 1996 when Daniel explained to Desmond that he needed a "constant". Desmond also "met" Libby, and Jack before meeting them on the Island. Charlie too, but that was with 2004 consciousness, and seeing Charlie performing on a London street corner triggered his memories of the future. Could Libby and Jack meeting Desmond have been a future version of Desmond travelling back to the past. This way, if it is necessary to have Jack/Desmond (or anyone else for that matter) to meet in a different timeline without changing the past OR to actually "change" something, it can be "course corrected" by having Desmond meet that person in a previous timeline. Kind of a time travelling system of checks and balances. Interesting.

Miss Kim said...

Wow. Can you say "run-on-sentences"?

Miss Kim said...

Maybe Ethan had to stop Locke from disturbing the plane. Ethan looked exactly the same to me....is he part of a course correction? Maybe Ben's people (w/ Mrs. Hawking's help) are all temporal policemen......Richard showing up to fix Locke up after the gunshot wound....kind of like time travelling navy seals.....quickly in, take care of the situation, just as quickly gone.......

PJSander said...

Interesting theory, Miss Kim. Temporal policemen.

I will have to think on that a while!

Hey guys!!! I know.. I know.. I need to comment! SO BUSY!!! Grrr...

So, I've been working over this idea and with PJs blessing am posting it here. Actually Im hoping that she'll help me a little. :)

There used to be this blogger on TMZ that would blog on Lost. It was HILLARIOUS! It was a running account of reactions to the show. Well, he's not doing it now. So I thought how funny would it be if we did??

So I started a crappy little page. You can read mine, comment, post your own... it's totally crappy.. but hopefully it will make you laugh. :)

Again, with PJs permission, here's the link.

Julie's 'minute by minute' blog is quite amusing. I may have to try it so we can have dueling banjo blogs about it. Not in real time, of course, because I think I might pop a gasket (and probably wouldn't ENJOY the episode).

One thing she posted, brought a thought to mind:

26:08 SAYID IS A BADASS! Did he just kill someone with a dishwasher? Is that even possible?? Was it preloaded with knives pointing up??

Um, yeah. That place that was the "safe house" was a glorified Motel 6. Not exactly the kind of place that would have a mini-fridge let ALONE a DISHWASHER!? Hello?

Actually in the Detroit area, there are motels like that where people live for long periods of time. Real trashy, but they LIVE there for cheap rent.

Yeah, they have those here, too. But rarely do they have dishwashers or even ONE relatively sharp knife, let alone several! LOL

I hear ya PJ. I just thought I'd chime in because some of UNBELIEVABLE things I've seen at these places makes the dishwasher believable. And in the areas I've seen them in...sharp knives are a must!! LOL. :)

Yeah, good job so far PJ. I expect to be out soon because the approach I took was the same I take in NCAA brackets. If you take all the favorites, you'll just be tied with a bunch of folks. Here’s one for ya…strap on your boots.

Valenzetti came up with that formula that predicts the end of the world. The numbers are the factors. DHARMA screwed something up by changing something in the past and Valenzetti’s equation found the resulting ‘D Day’ so to speak. DHARMA used the island to try to find a way to change one of the factors to ’save’ the world, but was stopped by the purge. Now, Ms. Hawking has found the island and now nows that it has 70 hours until the end of world. In effect, Ben’s group is changing a number to ’save us all’.

Is Ms. Hawking’s scribblings actually Valentzetti’s equation?

I understand. I found the categories to be so random (travels in a car? first person on screen?) that I didn't figure I could predict anything, so I just picked my favorites - by the most part - in each category.

Amazing how well some people did!

Holy end-of-days, Hammer! That makes a whole lot of sense! If that is true, I am sure the Heroes "Save the Cheerleader, Save the World" gave D&C a little pause.

I don't how plausible it is. But to be totally honest, I'm almost as excited about this one as the whisperers.

Hammer said...

Just to add to it.

I couldn't wrap my head around why the world is in trouble if the group doesn't get back to the island. I mean to ask, "What is the REAL reason why they have to get back?" Yeah to save the world, but WHY? What does it change or unchange. So I started pondering recurring themes. And BANG, the numbers. They told us about them early on for a reason...I think.

I like your theory Hammer.....I was actually thinking about that equation when I was outside snowblowing on this cold and blustery day which has provided my daughter and me with an unplanned day off from school. Hooray, except for the snowblowing. I was thinking about my own little theories....and I was also thinking about what consciousness is and how it relates to other, nonconscious, aspects of reality.
I really think that this is playing a big part of what's going on. I remember back at the end of last season--Juneish I think--I was toying around with a lot of different things and I ended up reading a lot of good stuff from David Chalmers,PhD, an Australian philosopher specializing in the area of philosophy of mind. I actually even e-mailed him at one point about some of his theories and how they may relate to situations in LOST and was delighted that he replied. He answered what he could from his point of view on the subject but sadly enough didn't watch the show. (Though many people have suggested to him that he would really like it) Charlie's being "here" and "there", Daniel influencing "present" Desmond from the past, and many more examples keep leading me back to the subject of Consciousness. Desmond's experiences with time travel seemed to be more of consciousness travel. I am wondering if Charlotte is losing her consciousness and this is why she can't remember her mother's maiden name. Daniel has his handy notebook to assist him and has even taken measures w/ remembering cards to help him overcome what it appears Charlotte is succumbing to. Maybe Mrs. H and her merry men and ladies are able to change people's consciousness in a manner which can ultimately alter specific events and change valenzetti equation predicting the end of time. As we are approaching the abrupt end of the Mayan calender, it would be a great storyline. There may be part of the story still unfolding about this equation. (like maybe some 4 toed ancient civilization had something to do w/ that equation....:)

Anonymous said...

Miss Kim, you triggered this question in me.

What if Charlotte can't remember her mothers maiden name because one of the time shifts causes her mother to not exist or to live a different life. Either there will have to be a course correction to bring her back to the reality Charlotte grew up in or Charlotte will cease to exist also, possibly just by dying. Daniele knows this and is trying to make the course correction that will protect Charlotte. Daniele knows who her mother is.

Miss Kim said...

good thoughts....good ideas....How about this? What if Charlotte is coming too close to a former (or future) version of herself? Can someone experience qualia--the pain of a headache, the taste of wine, or the redness of an evening sky--in two differrent realms? (Ummmmm....realms? Beings? Mental states? Timelines? Whatevers.) That Chalmers dude I mentioned earlier is best known for his formulation of the notion of a "hard problem of consciousness" which refers to the difficult problem of explaining why we have qualitative phenomenal experiences. I know that this may seem w-a-y off base but consciousness is something I've been mulling over and learning about for awhile now. I have a feeling it's maybe where some of this is heading. I can't wait for tonight's episode to add some more things for us to think about!!!!!!

Anonymous said...

Why does the 70 hour rule have to equal the end of days for the planet? Why can't it just be the "end of the island"? It is what everyone wants. Maybe it goes away for good after 70 hours.
--DocH

Miss Kim said...

I think lots of things could happen at the end of the 70 hour deadline that Mrs. Hawking predicted based on (I guess) her figures she was working on.

BEN: Look, I lost Reyes tonight. What happens if I can't get them all to come back?
MS. HAWKING: Then God help us all.

Could be the Valenzetti Equation like Hammer brought up, could be something completely different. Could be the "us" she was referring to are the temporal police force that she and Ben are part of and they will be "stuck" where they are all in time....unable to course correct anything at all. It's all specualation at this point I suppose. I love it though....I really do. LOST I mean. And all of you and your theories and being a part of this great little island!!!!!
