The Countdown has Started!

It has been a long wait, but finally the year and month have arrived and we are down to mere days before Season 5 of LOST begins. Let the theories fly and the discussion begin!

On the last thread, Hammer answered the most recent question correctly. Your turn to ask, Hammer!

Hammer said...

What food did Hurley laugh at and say, "I'm not that hungry." and turn down....early after the crash.

PJSander said...

Hmmm... good question! I think it was something native to the island - like a bug or something?

The latest D&C email arrived today. Their offerings are getting pretty meek at this point. I did find it interesting that the writers are in Building 23!

They showed photos of people who are "alive" and "dead" as well as "undead" (which we have seen before - undead were Christian Shepherd, Eko's brother and Kate's horse). But there was a photo of a young boy with light brown hair on the "alive" column. Couldn't figure out who that might be, except perhaps an older version of Aaron? And thoughts?

Hurley wouldn't eat Uni, or sea urchan for those not into sushi.

Doc, and PJ, I hope the little island stays active even when the big island is up and running. I guess trivia could go on hold while there is new stuff to talk about.

Hammer said...

You simply MUST keep this running. As you will all recall, the first two hours after an episode, the big island can't handle all the lurkers. This would be the place to go!!!

If Uni is a shellfish...you are correct CM.

Anonymous said...

Sea urchin is that round spiney thing that lives in the tidepools and on reefs.

Who else did Jin offer it to and what was the result.

ESB said...

hello again people...almost time and i am full-on jazzed...watching season 4 again (on dvd this time) to refresh my memory and loving it even more...love the questions...can i answer? anyways i hope you all had a great 'off-season' and happy holidays...;)

peace!

Anonymous said...

Answer away. Just remember, you ask the next question if you get it correct.

ESB said...

umm, okay then...;)

Jin also offered the sea urchin to Claire and as a result she felt the baby (Aaron) kick for the first time since the crash...right?

PJSander said...

Welcome back, ESB!

Yes, this island will stay active for sure. Which ever island you inhabit (big, little or both) once S5 starts is up to you!

And I agree that we can table trivia until the next hiatus, (good idea, CM) whether it be the end of S5 or a dastardly actors' strike. I feel as if, from the way D&C have been talking, they already have a good portion of S5 in the can.

Sorry if mentioning the photos on the wall was spoilerish. I still feel like anything that comes from D&C is just a tease anyway. They even said on camera that just because you SEE someone on one wall v. the other, doesn't mean that they will remain that way throughout the season. For all we know, that footage was taken on the first day back after their break!

I think Faraday better send up another rocket, because ever since I put that counter up on the blog, time seems to have started moving V-E-R-Y S-L-O-W-L-Y. January 21st seems SO FAR AWAY!

Anonymous said...

ESB, you got the question right. Your turn.

ESB said...

Thanks PJ! good to be back and I can't wait for the 21st...;)

okay so my question is this: who were the first two survivors to engage in a fist fight on the island?

PJSander said...

Great question!

The first fist fight that I recall (or at least the first BIG one) is when Jin saw Michael wearing the watch and punched him.

First fist fight. Say that five times fast! LOL.

: ) P

Hammer said...

first fist fight
first fist fight
fist first fight
frist fright fit
fit fight firt

Damn.

ESB said...

haha...well, we might have to get verification from other small-islanders, but i believe the altercation between Michael and Jin was actually the second fist fight between survivors...got another guess? ;)

Hammer said...

It was between our two favorite badasses. Sayid and Sawyer, 'cause Sawyer accused Sayid of being a terrorist and making the plane crash.

C'mon ladies, you should know this one. I think it was the first time we saw Sawyer.

ESB said...

bingo...;)

ESB said...

just for fun, i looked it up and the fight between Sawyer and Sayid takes place in episode 2 (The Pilot pt.2) of season 1, and the fight between Michael & Jin is in episode 6 (House Of The Rising Sun) of season 1...

you're up Hammer...;)

Hammer said...

My favorite asswhoopin' was when Jack pounded Ben at the end of season 3.

Why did Jack do the poundin'?

Anonymous said...

Lost update episode-enhanced season4 finale on Jan 14th!!!

Didn't Jack pound Ben because ben had Jin, Bernard and Sayid "Killed" at the beach.

PJSander said...

CM, is that enhanced episode on ABC do you know?

: ) P

PJSander said...

Nevermind! Just went to ABC dot com. Three hour season 4 finale, enhanced, starting at 8pm on 1/14. Holy flipping countdown clock, that is only a week away! Hoo YAW!

ESB said...

so, as i had said, i'm watching season 4 on dvd to refresh my memory before the premier of season 5 (should be done with all episodes and extras in plenty of time;) and I watched Something Nice Back Home last night with the wife...we both had forgetten how brutal the Appendix removal scene was before they knocked him out...OUCH! ;)

Hammer said...

Yeah, Doc. there COULD have been a ton of reasons for Jack, but there was only one at the time.

CM is correct.

Why did Charlie go fishing?

PJSander said...

It took me a while - but I finally remembered - I believe that Charlie went fishing to catch bait to tempt the migratory birds that Claire wanted to catch.

Whether or not that is right, I am still disturbed that they didn't adequately protect the PAPER note that they attached to the WATER bird's leg! LOL

Hey guys!!!!
Sorry its been so long!! Work has been INSANE and on top of that I've got a 'mah-jah' cold!
To answer a question I randomly saw scrolling down. YES you MUST keep this going. I'd much rather be here than the 'big' island.

Thanks to PJ for keeping me updated in my absense!

So.... yay... Wednesday! I saw the commercial tonight for the enhanced finale! A friend has made me pick 24 back up... AI starts tomorrow... Lost the following day. Sofa, popcorn, and diet soda here I come!!! :)
Soon... I'll look like Hurley.

:)

What up Julie? I hope you don't think Lost starts this Wed. or you'll be sooo disappointed.

Who (on the island) had a photo of
Ben off the island?

ESB said...

answer is Miles, right?

Hammer said...

Correct ESB.

Julie said...

No, but the enhanced finale is this week... right?

ESB said...

cool...my question is this: what was the breed of the dog that Jin gave to Sun as way of making up for all the long hours he was working pre-crash?

and yeah, there is an enhanced season finale re-airing tomorrow night...SWEET! ;)

Hammer said...

Shar Pei. To follow up (since I couldn't remember) what was the dog's name and what does the name mean?

Yeah Julie, I had to re-read your post...you are correct.

PJSander said...

You're close, Julie! It was Bpo Bpo, which is probably pronounced Po Po. I think we had that question before! LOL. It is a good thing we've got the new season starting soon!

Your turn for a question!

good morning! for those of you who don't already know, the bonus features on the season 4 dvd set are really cool and The Right To Bare Arms segment and the mocumentary Hard Line-esque segment (The Oceanic 6 Body Of Lies or something like that) are a riot! if you haven't watched them yet, i highly recommentd it...and so it (unofficially) begins tonight...SWEET! ;)

Julie said...

Question:
Hurley has seemingly made two friends during his stays at the Santa Rosa Health Institute... Leonard being one. Who is the other?

On other notes:
Boooo, I still dont have Season 4. :( I may try to pick it up tomorrow. I think that it's on sale at Target.
The only reason I remembered Sun's dog is that I had a Shar Pei growing up that I named Percy.... a LONG way from Bpo Bpo... As big a "P" got, I couldn't imagine at 80lbs calling him something that sounded so fragile.
YAY for Lost 'rehab' (its not a rerun.. its rehab) tonight!! The only question... Dominos or Chinese take out???? I may have to get take out in honor of Jin being 'lost' at sea. LOL!

No brainer on the carry out....Dominos, but skip the pizza. I've been jonesing for one of those Italian subs on the TV ads.

Julie said...

Oh sorry. I should have qualified... He's made two REAL friends.
So no, not Dave.

Hammer- I'll probably end up with popcorn. LOL! By the time I get home and settled it'll be close to 7pm.

Hammer said...

The only other one I can think of is the guy that told Hurley that Charlie was watching from the tree, but I have not clue what his name is.

7pm is perfect for delivery, call them on your way home. (Picturing in my head: toasted bun, ham, salami, peppers under melty cheese...)

Hammer said...

Domino's has a link on yahoo's main page, you can email your order.

*THIS IS NOT AN ADVERTISEMENT FOR DOMINO'S, I DON'T REALLY LIKE THEIR PIZZA...I JUST WANT TO TRY THAT DAMN SUB.

Julie said...

Dominos is the only pizza place that delivers to us. :( But I dont think that they have online ordering at the one closest to us. I'll have to check on it. THANKS HAMMER!!!

Yes, that is the guy... but I was looking for his name. :)

Miss Kim said...

I'm saving the take-out for the season premiere.......philly cheesesteak on a toasted roll. YUMMY! I found a place near me that makes an insane rendition. None of that cheese-whiz stuff though--melted provolone. They don't deliver, but I'll work on timing it just right......Hope that sub is as good as it looks in the advertisement, Hammer. It's been a l-o-n-g hiatus. I am looking forward to tonight and CAN'T WAIT FOR NEXT WEEK!!!!!!!!!!

PJSander said...

Is the guy from the tree the same guy that he was playing connect four with? Or was THAT Leonard?

: ) P

Julie said...

He played connect four with Leonard AND this guy..... and yes its the same guy as by the tree.

So... during the hiatus my friend Stacey got me hooked on Edward Cullen. HOWEVER... tonight I have realized that EC holds NOTHING against Sawyer.. nothing I tell you!!!!

Well, now that I've confirmed that I'm over the age of 17... I can't wait for next week!!!!!!!

I agree with your assement Doc. I think I mentioned this at the end of last season, but I really enjoyed the exchanges between Ben and Locke in the Orchid. I laugh out loud evertime I watch when Locke asks Ben if he know he's not supposed to put metal in the vault...Ben's face is precious...and that my friends is good acting...didn't say a word but you knew exactly what he was thinking because of the previous exchanges. Love it.

And yes, the whispers. I am becoming more and more convinced that the whisperers the dead folks and the time lines are their antagonists. Jacob may even me the leader of the whisperers as I believe they are all "trapped".

Hammer said...

Oh another thought. Maybe this was discussed before, but I think that turning the donkey wheel might always put the "turner" in the same geographical spot (Tunisia) but in different time lines? I know someone suggested that the polar bear was used to turn the wheel, then Ben did it and ended up in the same area...not to mention that the hotel Ben went to was set up to accept visitors "in the know".

Am I rehashing?

Hammer said...

Oh yeah, Doc. I think you are onto something with Charlotte. I think they have hinted that she was either born on the island or maybe her parents were DHARMA and were killed in the purge...so she may be on looking for vengence.

PJSander said...

There has been speculation that Charlotte IS a Widmore, or that she is Annie. For the same reasons you don't like Charlotte, I do. I think she is going to be this season's Juliet... WHO is she? Is she good or bad? What is her motive for the way she behaves?

I am out of town, so did not see the enhanced episode(s), but we did TiVo them. I hope to be home in time to watch that before S5 starts. I have watched those last three hours several times already though! LOL

I am mildly apprehensive about Season 5 (as I was before S4). Part of what makes LOST so amazing is how the island IS a character, and it influences the characters, and it romanticizes the stories. When we saw the flashforward at the end of Season 3, with Kate and Jack off-island, I really worried that so much of what made LOST great (the island) would be left out of the plot. But the flashforwards were intertwined with the island time stories and all was fine in my world.

I know we will still see half the characters on the island. I am just not sure that characters, like Hurley and Kate particularly, are going to be INTERESTING off island. Does that even make sense? (Besides messy jungle Kate with no makeup is SO much hotter than "put-together" barbie Kate! I mean would SAWYER look good in freshly-pressed clothes and clean shaven? Well yes, but not AS good! LOL)

: ) P

OK, Lost of new thoughts running around in my head. I didn't even read the captions yet. Will watch again tonight for that.

What do Patchy, Naomi and Keamy have in common? When Libby, Ana Lucia and Shannon got shot they died. Naomi gets impaled by a tree and staped and dosn't die, Keamy get stabed and shot three times and lives on to fight Ben. Patchy, Unbreakable. None are like Michael, with him the gun won't work.

Charlotte con't be Annie UNLESS she did time travel.

People born on the island. Alex, Aaron, Charlotte, Miles, Carl? PENNY????

So much more but no time.

Anonymous said...

Just checked the big island. Nothing in 7 weeks. Thanks so much PJ.

PJSander said...

The Charlotte as Annie thing has already been shot down because we know how old Charlotte is (Ben gave her vitals when he was captive to prove he had a "man on the boat.")

But... what if Charlotte's identity is fake? What if she *is* Annie, but with Widmore, or someone else, came up with an alter-ego which is what Michael relayed to Ben? Perhaps Annie was removed from the island before the purge and sent to a boarding school in England? Maybe by her father, Charles Widmore? Maybe she is a Widmore AND Annie!

Maybe on-island, Annie is like Captain Eyeliner, she doesn't age. She aged off island, but is actually Ben's age and doesn't look it. Maybe Ben knows who she really is. Maybe keeping her cover was his way of letting her THINK he didn't recognize her. The actress who portrayed little Annie had strawberry blonde hair and lots of freckles!

I am still tossing around the idea of Libby being a Widmore.

Similar parentage question: do we know definitively that Cooper was biologically Locke's father? I know that they were a match for the kidney transplant, but that is not the same as a DNA test.

My LOST juices are flowing again!

It was great to see it again--even w/ the distracting enhancements. I agree w/ the sentiments of great acting......As far as Charlotte....hmmmmmm. I'm not sure what to think just yet. Somethin's up w/ her and the rest of her gang. How did she and Daniel know what the secondary protocol was w/ Keamy's men heading to the orchid station? Why did Daniel insist that they leave? Why did Charlotte insist that she stay? Ben may not be the only one that always has a plan. The hidden trunk w/ binoculars, crackers, a mirror, ect. reminded me of Charlotte's bullet proof vest which saved her from being killed by Ben. Why'd he shoot her? I can't remember if he looked surprised when she had the vest on. If people are able to "re-visit" certain times/timelines/experiences/
whatever.....are these constantly open to manipulation? For example--If Charlotte knew that Ben would shoot her, she would choose to wear a bullet proof vest. If Ben knew that Charlotte would wear a vest, could that incident be "re-visited" and Ben could shoot her in the head instead? "We have to go back" sounds a lot like a "do-over" to me........I know that this is controversial--not looking to stir up anything--but it sure does seem like some kind of alternate reality/timelines type of explanation makes altering fate/destiny a possibility. Her relationship w/ Abaddon is also a mystery. --what's up w/ Abaddon? My bet is that we're gonna see some more about him as the story unfolds--and also we're gonna see more about Horace Goodspeed.

I agree. I always thought that "we have to go back" was definitely not just an odd choice of words. If they had to go back to the island, they would have said so. I think "in time" is kind of that understood extension of the sentence that they can't bring themselves to say out loud. I have also been thinking that *it* (which I had always thought was the island) might be something else... smokey? the DI? the great and powerful oz?

Abaddon, Horace, yes! Also Libby, I think.

Was there anything worthwhile in the pop-ups this time? Any snippets of info that we, as *invested* fans, didn't already know?

As to the deleted scene, I found it quite fascinating. I don't remember though... Ben uncovered a bag of money and passports. Did those passports have his picture in them? Was the parka-wearing corpse the one who put them there?

: ) P

Hammer said...

Thanks Doc. Your deleted scene(I looked it up) kind of confirms my thought (which is your thought):

Interesting..........The Inuit and Eskimos have many folk tales featuring the bears including legends in which bears are humans when inside their own houses and put on bear hides when going outside. These legends reveal a deep respect for the polar bear, which is portrayed as both spiritually powerful and closely akin to humans. The human-like posture of bears when standing and sitting, and the resemblance of a skinned bear carcass to the human body, have probably contributed to the belief that the spirits of humans and bears were interchangeable.-wikipedia

Hammer said...

Okay Doc. Your mind bender has me thinking. In order to send someone to drop off the good before Ben arrived, then there must be some sort of cummincation line open for Ben to let them know "when" they needed to arrive with the goods. Ben must still be able to communicate with the Others while off the island. Say,could the communication line be through the Whisperers....and I wonder if the Others ARE whisperers.

Anonymous said...

Cindy, Emma and her brother are others. Richard could be a whisperer. Charlie died on the island and he can communicate with Hurley off island.

It feels like the answers are just inches beyond our reach. I guess they will pull them away again for awhile.

Noticed some descrepencies/clues that I want to check out. Sun, Kate and Sayid got large settlements from Oceaniac. Hurley is driving a old car when he arrives to his birthday party and the captions say it is because he thinks the lottery money is bad. What about his settlement money. When he is in the hospital Abaddon offers that Oceaniac will move Hurley to a "better facialty" as if Hurley couldn't afford it himself.

When Kate returns to the beach with Aaron and Sayid is about to go after Jack she tells Sayid "I can track them, you'll never find them without me." Isn't Sayid a pretty good tracker in his own right?

If the purge happened 16 years ago then why are the crackers in the hidden box 15 years old?

We need new material.

Hammer said...

I'll stab at two of them.

Hurley likley would have not accepted the O6 money as he thinks everything to do with the lotto is bad, connecting the O6 settlement is something Hurley would do. Abaddon would know that Hurley didn't accept the O6 money and therefore offer.

I think Kate said that Sayid would never find them IN TIME, not just never find them. She was eluding to she would where they were last and know where to start tracking, they by saving time.

PJSander said...

I agree with Hammer on the Kate / Sayid thing.

However, personally, I think that Hurley probably gave his O6 money to Sun to help takeover his company. As for the "upgrade" I think Hurley probably COULD have been at any facility but CHOSE to be at Santa Rosa.

: ) P

Hammer said...

Interesting thought. Why would Hurley want to go back to Santa Rosa, since that is where his "bad luck" all started? Ponderous.

You may be correct about his money going to Sun, either way he doesn't want to be rich.....

OK, I checked. Kate said "You are not gonna catch up unless I go with you."

Things there are still off kilter. Jack and Kate left in full darkness and ran into Sawyer and Miles in daylight. Kate then returns to the beach in full light and tells Sayid that she left them about a hour ago. Were they running in circles all night?

The answers on Hurley's money make sense but why is he still living in a house baught by the money and why, after freaking out and running away, is he driving the car his dad fixed up when he gets arrested.

All questions I had when I rewatched over the break. I figured if he gave all his money away, and didn't have a job, he would have to live SOMEWHERE and actually, I am not sure we know for sure he WAS living in that house - he may have just gone there for the birthday party. As for the car - who knows.

I had the same thoughts. I hesitate to put a blanket invitation there because this blog's comments get difficult to navigate once they top 200. I may post that the little island is hopping so that anyone who knows about it can come "back" if they choose.

I know the old hint was Ben F Cavier for the link in the Cabin Fever episode comments, right? I could just say "they moved the island" because a search of that in quotes on yahoo, google or answers gives a link to this blog.

Do you think I should post something on the big island now? Wait? Or skip it? Everyone who is "here" now... This is YOUR island, too, so I want your input.

Miss Kim said...

Lordy, Lordy....lots of good thoughts flying here. CircusMom: I wonder if the daytime/nightime running in circles thing has something to do with us seeing a certain event in (at least) 2 different time lines. I've always believed we have been having a story told to us out of chronological order,in pieces--like a puzzle--which will eventually fit together in a plausible sequence of events once the entire story has been told. FF and FB have confirmed this but there seems to be more to it, which I think has been hinted at by tptb. It seems feasible that some of what we have seen has has happened in a different (past or future) time line while we have accepted it as being in the present or current time line. I think the whispers and smokey and other mysterious events may possibly be attributed to this. Accepting that Charlie is both "dead" and "alive" (AKA as "here" and "there" in time lines/dimensions/whatever) could carry through to Walt, Claire, Christian, Alpert, Patchy, and many other characters. When Kate told Sayid "you'll never find them without me", it may be that Kate was "returning" to that point for whatever reason to change the playing field....a "do-over" of sorts. Maybe the first time Sayid wasn't able to find them......who knows. Just a thought.

Miss Kim said...

Not sure what the deal on the Big Island is. I think that there are more inhabitants on this little island that are observing rather than posting....I would vote that any "lurkers" say hello and keep the theories going. I think that this blog has been extremely hospitable and has already made new people feel welcome. I posted on the Big Island this morning--kind of put a line out for some more discussion over there. Maybe everyone's just kind of waiting for the new season to begin. I always think the more the merrier as far as mentioning the little island. PJ has a done a great job facilitating and can always "eliminate" problems if they were to occur. Typically, I would think that only hard core LOSTIES would come play in this sandbox anyway.
