I finally got to see Avatar this afternoon (Things have been complicated around here lately) and was overwhelmed. The film is not anti-military, as some have said. I'd call it anti-corporate greed and anti-mercenary, but that's a different question. Ana Lucia (well, Michelle Rodriguez) was present for duty as a chopper pilot. It costs extra; there was a $3.50 surcharge for the glasses which they ask you to recycle. I did that; I figured if I took the glasses to the next 3D movie, they'd still levy another surcharge.
I saw Titanic twice for the special effects. (I hear that the boat sank.) My sister-in-law called the movie "The Rose and Jack Show." -- Rose! Jack! Rose! Jack!
Guys, dh said to me tonight, "What are you guys going to DO next summer? How are you ever going to watch tv again without all these people to talk to?"
I think I am going through withdrawal from all of you already! ACK!
It's gonna be like the 'miracle on ice'. A bunch of strangers watching something great together...then it ends...and everyone celebrates for a while...then everyone goes home. (sniff, sniff)
I have noticed from reading the last several months worth of posts that the little islanders have similar tastes in television....I tried Heroes, couldn't do it. I'm going to watch Fringe when LOST is over. I figure I'll watch all of the episodes to bring myself up to speed for the next season when the time comes. I watched ALL of the V episodes and was really digging it. Between tv and movies, I'm thinking this little island will always have something to talk about.....at least I hope so.
Did anyone else notice that ABC is showing The Incident tonight? I didn't know that and I was SOOO excited to see my DVR was set to record a LOST episode!! One more week!!!!!
I was checking the guide on the tv to see what was on tonight and saw that LOST was gonna be on! I'm psyched!! I need a refresher course before next week...
I knew LOST was on tonight, but we watched Season 5 over the last couple of weeks, so I didn't TiVo it. Now, I find out it is ENHANCED. Of COURSE. I should have known. Hope it is online tomorrow because I don't want to record just part of it!
And it's a pop up enhanced episode of The Incident...man, I love this show! I seriously can't tell you all how happy I was to hear "previously, on LOST" tonight :)
OK, am I missing something...in the enhanced things tonight, they said Jacob had been on the island for over 140 years...and then when it showed him meeting little Kate, it said she was 10 and for Jacob it was over 100 years later...I'm not sure how much wiggle room they're assigning to the word "over", but that doesn't seem to add up to me...I know the enhanced "facts" aren't really facts though...sorry for rambling :)
TXYorkFamily said... OK, am I missing something...over 140 years...
I think they meant to say he arrived over 140 years ago (as of 2007?, 1977?). That puts him in the ballpark for having been on the Black Rock.
He left to talk to people, unless, of course, that was really the nemesis appearing to be him. If it was him who brought Locke back to life(?), then he enabled his own death.
Changed my display name to make it easier...still love seeing all our Losties charge in on the Swan site and kick the crap out of Radzinsky and crew...makes ya proud :)
Ricardus would be the Latin version of Richard - she is showing she is an Other.
I thought about Ilana not knowing Richard, and my thought is that there are more "islands" out there. Perhaps Jacob is the leader of all of the islands and Ilana was another island's Ricardus?
It is weird, she obviously knew her way around the island, and she knew Jacob...and for that matter, Bram and the rest of her group knew the locations on the island pretty well too...
Wow. That one never occurred to me before but why not, except in the sense that they don't really have time to explain it all? DHARMA apparently only knew about one, but so what? The producers could show us one more and keep us guessing at the end about the total. I wouldn't exactly call that resolution, but I read once that a good story ends with the characters having somewhere to go and something to do.
Report on Under the Dome: It's almost 1100 pages and I'm a little less than halfway through. Multiple story lines with one clearly identifiable BAD GUY and a reluctant GOOD GUY. One teaser is that it's not a circular dome as you might believe by looking at the cover of the book; it exactly follows the town limits, described as the shape of a sock.
There's another one of those trailers on youtube that's supposed to have new footage (they don't actually say that). I think this one is really from ABC, but it's all old stuff carefully edited. I won't even bother with the link.
"Or Jacob can only be killed by someone he has touched. It has already been established that Jacob has restorative power (Locke's fall), perhaps Jacob healed young Ben post gunshot in the temple."
I would replace "touched" with "healed," but it's an interesting thought. That means (maybe) that Locke could have killed Jacob, except that Locke's already dead, I think.
Seems like a good idea. Mine was that the killer had to be one of Jacobs 'leaders' but the 'healing' things sounds a bit better.
BTW, I think Locke is VERY dead in the sense that he can't be brought back life (see Alpert's observation that it has NEVER happened before). Now with the alternate time lines...who knows?
Also, I am interested to see how MIB/Locke worked his way into the crash survivors.
Is part of the loophole the wheel turning-time travel-island moving stunt combined and MIB created it. Hence he knew when the plane would crash and met it at the run way? I am thinking on island Christian=MIB. He told Locke to move the island in the first place, setting up the whole loophole?
I am thinking on island Christian=MIB. He told Locke to move the island in the first place, setting up the whole loophole?
I agree, Hammer. I think any time we've seen Christian, or for that matter any of the dead LOSTies, it COULD have been MIB. Charlie *sob*, Ana-Lucia, Libby, Michael, Alex, even Boone, possibly Dave. I wish I had time to go back and watch their scenes to see if what those "ghosts" said and did really propelled the story forward in that regard.
Then there are the Walt apparitions. Was that Jacob? Is Walt really special?
Are the whisperers Jacob's manifestations and the apparitions MIB's doing?
Oh my, I can see this is going to be a busy season!
Oh, and I think Walt is still special. It had to be the real Walt that the Others decided was more than they could handle. They took him, decided to give him back, he's back in NY, etc. But that said, I also think that when Walt appeared to Locke when he was in the pit was MIB.
Interesting thoughts about Jacob's touching people being significant - since they went out of their way to show that he did. I'm not sure where all that is going, but it has to mean something important.
I am starting to buy into the "two smokies" theory. Mostly, I think there may be ONE real smokey, and one counterfeit smokey - likely MIB counterfeits the actions/presence of Jacob in order to deceive people.
It's good to be back, though I have been checking in all along to see all of your good ideas and thoughts. You people truly amaze me! CAN'T WAIT UNTIL NEXT WEEK!!!
Okay, possible monkey wrench. Ms. Hawking was in on the 'must go back' thing. NOT forgetting that Aaron didn't make the trip. Is she converted to MIB's side, is she smokey, or is the MIB loophole theory I threw out there bunk?
Doc, maybe the ash ring was in fact keeping Jacob hostage in the cabin ala Jacob asking Locke for help. Somehow Jacob broke free and went to the the foot. Ilana went to the cabin because she expect him to still be there, when she realized he wasn't...burn it and go to the foot?
If we group people, we have * Indigenous People (Hostiles) * DHARMAites (Others) * Survivors (Flight 815) * Ajirans (Flight 316)
There is, of course, some overlap. We know how the last three groups came to be on the Island, but we have never been told how the "hostiles" first arrived. That has gotta be aboard the Black Rock. How else? They're not South Sea Islanders, Amerindians or Africans, (I know the Island moves, but it's still a tropical island.) Locke's early comment about there being slaves on the vessel doesn't necessarily wash, btw; when the British started transporting convicts to Australia, they hired shipping companies that had been involved in the slave trade. The convicts were locked up below decks just as the slaves had been. That would account for the relative lack of "racial diversity," Ms. Klugh not withstanding, among the hostiles and for the British accents used by Widmore, Ellie and others in the 1950s.
I also don't think we have any proof the dynamite was aboard the vessel when it arrived at the Island. The Army could have brought it.
Interesting thoughts Jim. But to me the Dharmaites ARE the Hostiles.
One thing I believe to be true is that'some'of the Others are now ageless (Richard at least) and I think he was there LONG before Widmore's group. Now we know from The Incident that Eloise was the current leader in the 70's time line...even though Richard was there longer and more recently Ben was the leader. I think the Others are a collaboration of people Jacob 'diverted' to the island. When a new ship/vessel/plane 'crashes' on the island, Jacob makes a list of who he wants to be part of the Others and rest are left alone as long as they stay away from the Others ala the Dharma treaty and the treaty Mr. Friendly gave the Losties when they took the guns and gave Kate back.
That was the long way of saying I think the Dharmaites and Hostiles are the same group, just assembled over ? years.
The actual Dharma people were purged except for Ben...so they are not Others.
The DHARMAites are surely hostile, but "hostiles" is the colloquial label DHARMA gave to the people who lived in the woods.
Young Widmore, Young Ellie and others may have come to the Island or have been born. If they came there were they part of the selection process for leaders that starts at a young age? Did Richard leave the Island and bring them back? (If the teen John Locke had gone to that science camp and passed the test, would he have ended up on the Island that summer? Five hundred words, one side of the paper... Never mind.)
As PJ said, seventeen hours, although I think it's been plussed up to eighteen.
There's a video of "The first four minutes of Lost season six." I think it's the last minutes of "The Incident" dovetailed into pre-crash footage from "The Pilot."
We have watched about half of the first part of The Incident "enhanced" version. I seem to remember a disagreement last year about 1977 Eloise's yet-to-be-born baby being Daniel. The pop-ups say that she was pregnant with Daniel
So, if Eloise WAS pregnant with Daniel in 1977 (as the pop-ups said), then the EARLIEST he could have been born was later in 1977.
Quoting from my post at TBI: We know that Faraday was a professor at Oxford in 1996. Even if he got his doctorate that SAME YEAR (which I doubt), he would have been 19 with a *doctorate* in physics at Oxford. That’s EIGHT years of college. Even if he did it in six, that would have put him graduating from high school at 13! I know he was the youngest doctor to graduate from Oxford, but still. Possible? Yes. Probable? Not to me.
So, either the pop-ups were mistaken; they were purposefully misleading; Faraday is even more amazingly brilliant than we thought; or, he found a way to "make time" (for extra studying) as his ten-year-old self told his mother he would!
There was something on the LP some time ago about the enhanced popups being produced neither by Bad Robot nor ABC but by a third party. They're also KISS items, trying to compress a complex series of events into two-line bullets.
I'm reluctant to believe any of the popups and I think we all need to take anything the producers say, like "There is no time travel," with a grain of salt.
There was a lot of argument on the LP to the effect that Ellie was really pregnant with Penny. It's worth noting that we don't know who Penny's mother is. In that case, Daniel may have already been born before his older version was killed by Ellie? We did not see a young Daniel on the Island, but that doesn't mean he wasn't there someplace and we don't know why Ellie came to live on the Outside except that apparently was not exiled with Charles.
There's a guy on the production team who has the Master Scenario Events List (MSEL). I hope they did all the math right.
BTW, there was a neat question on an LP blog: If Jack was getting on Flight 316 to go back to the Island, why did he wear a business suit? *big grin* I suppose an answer was that everything was supposed to be a close as possible to Flight 815.
Okay, so dh read the EW article and promises it is not spoilerish. The only thing he said I might not know (which I did) was that the article (like every other piece of press) CLAIMS Elizabeth Mitchell isn't back. Yeah, right.
He also said that he thought that if Jughead exploded (rather than flashed), a nuclear explosion would have had SOME impact on the rest of the world. He had me look up global catastrophes in 1977. WOW.
There was an earthquake and tsunami in August of 1977, in the SUNDA TRENCH! Check it out here:
I know we have heard, even from D&C, that pop-ups are not canon. The reason I brought up Ellie's pregnancy is that although pop-ups have been a "little" incorrect, I don't think they've ever been BLATANTLY wrong. Or maybe they have and I just don't remember! LOL
I tend to agree Doc. Physical TT wasn't invented by Dan, he was recreating what he learned when he was on island before. Ended up sending his girlfriend (and others) into concious TT (like how traveling back and forth from the island incorrectly did by pulling from his memory fractured brain.
I am generally trying to stay away from major LOST sites. I don't want to be spoiled - some people have seen the first hour and apparently the first six minutes were leaked online. However, here are some more photos of the cast at the first hour on the beach in Waikiki:
There's a neat six-minute item on http://abc.go.com/primetime/lost/index?pn=index from early in the premier that really redefines some relationships; the four-minute item I wrote about earlier is there, too. Don't go there if you don't want to be spoiled at all. For me it was just enough to get me REALLY revved up for tomorrow night.
Oh my goodness, I've been on abc.com for the past hour watching LOST stuff...the LOST in 8:15 recap was hilarious, my favorite line was "Mr. Friendly throws like a girl"...anyway, on our LOST menu for tomorrow night is pasta pizza casserole, then my hubby leaves to play b-ball, the kids go to bed and the TV is mine!!!
Thanks Doc, I've never made it before, so hoping it turns out well...pretty much anything with pasta and pizza sauce is a crowd pleaser around here :) And yes, b-ball will keep him out till at least 10 and he knows if he gets home before then to walk straight back to shower, no talking, no anything unless it's a commercial - the rules of LOST in our house! :)
Can we start a new game in light of the premier tomorrow? What is your all-time favorite LOST episode so far? Mine would have to be "Through the Looking Glass" because it set up a great story to come.
Well, tomorrow is a trip to the next town south to get my wife's new glasses. That means lunch at a restaurant and, probably, a light snack for supper. The could mean graham crackers or a cold meat and cheese plate. Either way, I'll be happy.
I now know more than I wanted to know about tomorrow night because some (course language omitted) person loaded some spoiler images onto the LP and I helped take them AND him down.
Doc-I was actually wondering what y'all were planning on enjoying tomorrow night! I'm going with take-out Thai--Chicken Pad See Eww to be exact. I just need to get the timing down pat! I will have to heat it up but I don't want to have to heat it up too much.....hope you enjoy your Seafood Spectacular! See you all here tomorrow. (Can't wait!)
Actually, I lusted for that sub sandwich on the commercials last season...never actually had one.
Most likely going to have venison back strap steaks with pheasant breast strips wrapped in bacon to celebrate...if I get home in time to cook it, daughter has middle school volleyball tryouts.
What a great day to have a birthday! Happy Birthday. A little less than 8 hours before my Lost Night starts and I am ready! We are having chicken and dumplings tonight. It's great to see everyone:)

See the movie.

I heard the movie was more like "Dances With Wolves - In Space"

Noted, but the technology is impressive. The U.S. Cavalry didn't have any hardware like this!
I also read someplace years ago that there have been no new plots since the ancient Greeks.

I agree with Jim @ Avatar. Plot is bland and you will know the ending immediately (like the Titanic movie) but the CG effects are really cool.

There's a video of "The first four minutes of Lost season six." I think it's the last minutes of "The Incident" dovetailed into pre-crash footage from "The Pilot."

It's fun to watch.

Hmm... Warning, there is something different at the end.

Thanks, Jim, but at this point, I will just hold out four more days! Entertainment Weekly showed up today. LOST on the cover. Pretty cool.
I will not open it.

"enhanced" version...

JiG, thanks for the link to the video, not sure if I'll be happy or not if that's how they open the season, but it was definitely interesting...

Tie-in? Who knows. Interesting regardless!

I know we have heard, even from D&C, that pop-ups are not canon. The reason I brought up Ellie's pregnancy is that although pop-ups have been a "little" incorrect, I don't think they've ever been BLATANTLY wrong. Or maybe they have and I just don't remember! LOL

shave a decade off somewhere...
Interesting thought, Doc. It never occurred to me that Ellie might have taken Daniel for a little trip when he was young.
8) Jim
I tend to agree Doc. Physical TT wasn't invented by Dan, he was recreating what he learned when he was on island before. Ended up sending his girlfriend (and others) into concious TT (like how traveling back and forth from the island incorrectly did by pulling from his memory fractured brain.
So who was the first time traveller? That's rhetorical; I think it's way outside the Lost universe.

So last night, they had that screening, on the beach in Waikiki, of the first hour of the season premiere.
You can look at some photos here, even if you aren't on Facebook:

I am generally trying to stay away from major LOST sites. I don't want to be spoiled - some people have seen the first hour and apparently the first six minutes were leaked online. However, here are some more photos of the cast at the first hour on the beach in Waikiki:

Thanks Doc...I'm not sure if I amused MYSELF more with that one or the poop piles one. Pretty dry.

LOSTPedia has LOST it.
Yea, verily. It's a trial some days. I'm looking forward to the "consolidation period" after the last episode.
The single worse thing they did was set up blogs; they are completely undisciplined.

I have no idea what we will eat tomorrow night. Our Tuesdays are typically a bit frenetic, so often frozen pizza makes the cut!
Twenty four hours from now we will be discussing and deLOSTing. Wow. Eighteen hours, but only fifteen weeks.
I am so excited, but wary of it being OVER. This is the downside to having an end date!
: ) P
Actually, I lusted for that sub sandwich on the commercials last season...never actually had one.
Most likely going to have venison back strap steaks with pheasant breast strips wrapped in bacon to celebrate...if I get home in time to cook it, daughter has middle school volleyball tryouts.
HAPPY LOST DAY!!!!! WOOHOO!!!!
There are tons of scenes that are my favorites...but my favorite episode is still the pilot. It's the one that hooked me.

Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow.
Question: With all those lights shining on him, how could he NOT see his shadow. Oh, yeah, and how do we know? * grin *
