With such an unusual title, I went to TLI bloggers for suggestions on what it means.
DocH said:
I have two reads on this. Hoth is the ICE planet in Star Wars. It is a play on the phrase "Some Like It HOT", suggesting "Some Like It COLD." The Star Wars portion of my brain immediately suggested to the rest of my brain, aka the LOST portion of my brain - hey - it has something to do with the Frozen Donkey Wheel chamber.
My second thought was the movie "Some Like It Hot" with M.Monroe, T.Curtis and J.Lemmon. synop: Two struggling musicians witness the St. Valentine's Day Massacre and try to find a way out of the city before they are found and killed by the mob. The only job that will pay their way is an all girl band so the two dress up as women. In addition to hiding, each has his own problems; One falls for another band member but can't tell her his gender, and the other has a rich suitor who will not take "No" for an answer. - - - I am not sure how they could work that into the plotline... where two of the Losties have to do some gener-bendin'-pretendin'.
and
SOME LIKE IT HOTH or
SOME, LIKE I - THOTH.
The images of Thoth that I found show a super long bird bill, like a flamingo, holding a spear and an Ankh. (que?)

The best I can say is that my first impression was that Hoth was an Egyptian deity. That didn't work, obviously.
The Wikipdeia page Hoth (disambiguation) will take you to Höðr, a Norse god (demigod?) also known as Hoth. He assists his brother in slaying Baldr with an arrow made of mistletoe. How romantic(?)!

There's an Egyptian god named Thoth! I didn't find it; someone on the LP did.

There was a Nazi general named Hoth who was convicted of war crimes, but that seems a stretch!
I think it's a play on words, since Hoth in Star Wars was supposed to be covered in ice or whatever, but obviously Some Like it Hot is the cultural reference...so if it's about opposites, what could that mean?

This is my best guess as well. Actually, I HOPE this is correct - it's about time for us to see what Sawyer meant that Daniel is no longer with them.

Thoth sometimes appears as a ibis or as a goose laying a golden egg. Hurley Bird?
Thoth also leads to Hermes in Greek culture. "in Greek mythology. An Olympian god, he is also the patron of boundaries and of the travelers who cross them, of shepherds and cowherds, of thieves and road travelers,"
To the Thoth Tarot deck, which leads to "Liber AL vel Legis", or "The book of the Law."

I think Hoth has GOT to be a reference to Star Wars, as the writers are such big fans. I'm expecting (and hoping for) an explanation of the Polar bears.
How does a Polar bear get from his native Arctic Ocean to a spooky South Pacific island then the Tunisian desert? The most obvious answer is Vile Vortices. I'm also hoping for a answer as to why do it in the first place. I think this episode will go back to 1977 Dharma to tackle that one.

I am thinking that LostHorizon on TBI may be onto something with the whole Garden of Eden and its guardians thing. Not in the Biblical way though, but with many other culteral and religious references blended. I can't wait to actually SEE the temple (sometime)!

Isn't this one supposed to Miles-centric? Is that a spoiler? If so, I'm sorry...
If not, I hope we get to find out why the heck Widmore wanted a "ghost-buster" on the freighter. I mean, he knows a lot about the island, so what reasons would he have for needing Miles there?
I don't think that knowing the person upon whom the episode is focused would be considered a spoiler. I like Miles, but I really wanted this to be a Daniel episode!
Maybe we will find out if he is "the baby" in the Chang video!
: ) P
Something both LINS and Tasha said on TBI reminded me of a point I think is pertinent.
There are, in my mind, four kinds of people:
Those who TRY to do well and do so.
Those who TRY to do well and do harm.
Those who TRY to do harm and do so.
Those who TRY to do harm and fail.
I think most people fall into one of the first two categories. I believe there are many people in history who truly felt they were doing the RIGHT thing when they committed heinous acts. Any act of violence done in the name of a god, for instance.
I think those that fall into the latter two categories are usually somewhat unhinged (Charles Manson).
It remains to be seen in which category our main characters belong.
: ) P
I love Miles character. It's that time of year, which we saw with the last episode, that the show is really picking up and building up for the Big Finale! Which after we can all sit in suspense for like 9 months watching the seasons over and over.(or is that just me?) This year will be sad for me knowing next season is the last. Anyway, knowing Miles talks to dead people I am pretty sure we will see that tonight. Just wondering what kind of stuff they tell him that will have an impact on the show. Also after what we saw last week, I am wondering if Little Ben stays with the Others or returns to Dharma, or what happens.
Also with Ethan being there last week, I wonder if he is the same as baby Ethan, and if he IS, then is something bad going to happen to Baby Ethan and Ben takes him to the temple as well? That may be how he becomes a hostile? Probably nothing that will be answered tonight but definately on my mind.
Tasha, I think the reason Ben said Ethan's name was to tell us that he IS Ethan Rom. I'm not sure he has to have something bad happen in order to be hanging out with Ben - just think that Ben has a thing for kids (not a creepy thing!) and probably saved them ALL at the purge, somehow.
I think you're right about Ben possibly saving all the kids at the purge, but when we see EthanBoy with Ben while they're kidnapping Alex, that's pre-purge.
Not sure how Ethan ended up with Ben at that point, unless Ben is still LIVING with DHARMA and he and Ethan go off and do the Others/Hostiles' bidding.
: ) P
Things I'd love to see tonight:
1. More info about Miles! I think the writers are saving up his "ability" to be used on something really cool.
2. Da (Polar) bears. :)
3. Remember when Ben and Kate had that creepy breakfast way back when? When it happened, there was a lot of speculation as to what that was all about, and we still don't have an answer. I'm thinking that Ben DOES remember Kate from 1977 Dharma. Perhaps something will happen to make Ben think "I want to get this lady all gussied up for breakfast in about 30 years."
Can't wait!
OK. Totally lame, I suppose....but here goes. To me, (not a Star Wars afficianado), HOTH made me think of Led Zeppelin's Houses of the Holy. The Temple maybe? Or perhaps another House of the Holy? If this was mentioned before I apologize. I've been trying to keep up on my reading....at least here on TLI. I haven't been to TBI since pre-April Fools. Looking forward to tonight!!!!!!!
"I want to get this lady all gussied up for breakfast in about 30 years."ROFLOL.
Yuck.
But it DOES make a lot more sense now, eh?
: ) P
DocH....and the rest of y'all....I love you guys. The past four months have been unbelievably difficult for me. No need for a long sob story--but suffice to say, I appreciate knowing that you guys are just a click away. I may have been quiet...but I've been here. You and the little island have been what's keepin' me goin'some days......
Love, The Elite top 25 percenter
Sorry to hear things have been tough, Miss Kim. We love you here!
DocH, I don't remember anything about the SW movies - I saw the first one as a kid when it first came out. I remember the iconic phrases, (Luke, I am your father), but only because they are part of pop culture literacy. I do remember reading (here probably) that Hoth was the second movie.
I don't REALLY think that anyone on the show is going to view the movie. I just think it is silly to assume that the only way they CAN is to leave the island! *g*
: ) P
Hi! I love reading all of your posts especially on Lost day. I also signed up for the fantasy league but can not figure out how to see my scores. Can someone tell me how to do that? I've been wondering how I'm doing this season. I appreciate your help. Gup

Yes, pre-purge for sure. And I agree, Ethan is likely just friends with Ben, hanging out, and following him to Otherville, ready to do the Others (and Ben's) bidding. He kept telling Ben he would "do it" - kill Danielle. He jumps when Ben says jump - remember when Ben told him to run off to the plane crash and to blend in etc.? He didn't hesitate, just ran off. Ben is his hero.
The scene when Ben was supposed to kill Danielle and Ethan kept offering to reminded me a Sayid killing the chicken for his brother.
Welcome, Gup.
Do you remember what your LOST Fantasy League's team name was? If so, I bet we could ask DocH if he would please include your stats next time he posts.
: ) P
Miss Kim - as a Zeppelin aficionado myself, I thought Houses of the Holy as well; I know nothing about Star Wars but I'm guessing that is probably the intended reference.
Things I would like to see tonight:
1. Why was Miles part of the team sent via the freighter? Was it b/c he was an island baby a la Charlotte or b/c of his ghost whispereing skills or (most likely) the combination of the 2 made him a perfect and probably fiercely recruited team member.
2. Daniel!!! Where, what, when, why????
3. How are Kate, Jack, and Hurley adjusting to Dharma life? Is everyone just content to live as Dharma-ites or are they having secret meetings to decide WTF to do?!
4. Where is Sayid? Has he met up w/ RA yet?
There are plenty of other things I would like to see of course; these are just a few I think we may have a good shot at getting answered tonight!
Thanks! I believe I used Gup as my name when picking. I sure would appreciate it if DocH would include my score next time he checks. I also think I said my affiliation was TBI too.
Gup
Gup,
Is that the name you use on TBI? I remember it from a long time ago, but haven't seen you there in a long time.
: ) P
katesFriend,
Am I correct that you are NOT the same person as KateTheGreat? For a while I thought you were, but now, I don't think so! LOL.
As to your number four, I think that there has to be a BIG reason that Sayid took off, and more than just the shooting BenBoy thing. I think it will be a story twist that we haven't even THOUGHT of. Not sure WHY I think that, but well... I do! LOL
: ) P
So it's too late to do the lost fantasy thing right??
PJ, you are correct, katethegreat and I are definitely 2 different people!
Just thinking out loud, but maybe Sayid is going to try to find some of the Dharma stations that are not in the main Dharma village? Perhaps he will go try to find the beginnings of the Flame or the Swan? I know it seems that when Sayid said he knew why he returned to the island was to kill Ben, but I feel like he thinks he has another purpose too. He seemed to be leaving the scene with a known destination.
Incidentally, and totally off topic, I chose the name katesFriend b/c I have a really great friend, named Kate, who looks like she could be Evangeline's twin sister! When I first met her, I said, you look just like Kate! She said, I am Kate! It took a few minutes for me to explain that I was talking about LOST Kate! lol!
Yeah, Tasha. I think the entries were due mid June or July of last year - long before the season started. Sorry!
: ) P
kF,
That's too cool. Evangeline is SO pretty. I have a friend who would be about her age who looked a LOT like her as a little girl. I would love to see what she looks like now. (But no, her name is not Kate! LOL)
: ) P
Haha! Yah, I'm not KF. My handle is because MY name is Kate... and I'm great! I wish I looked like Evangeline though!
Actually, Kate is one of my least favorite characters on the show, and has been since the beginning. Nothing against Evangeline or her acting, I just find Kate to always be putting herself in the middle of other people's business and making trouble for them. For example: in WHH her going to see Sawyer in to ask him annoying questions in the super secret security lair, then making him uncomfortable when Horace comes in and busts them. Typical Kate! Sorry Kate fans. :)
LOL.
See I *like* Kate because she seems to be the *only* one who asks QUESTIONS! Except Hurley, and I love him too!
: ) P
I guess I'm mostly neutral on Kate, though sometimes I think she is pretty self centered. I do like that she is asking questions though, because WHO WOULDN'T!!?? It's not like it is none of their business afterall. I know I would be wanting to know what the heck was going on!
Hurley is the best! I'm also partial to Sawyer. ;)
True, true. She does ask the questions that need asking. But I think she's still a pain.
PJ- Yes I have been on TBI too- I'm one of the lurkers-mostly read while I'm at work. By the way- I too am hoping that Charlie is still alive somewhere, somehow...
DocH- thanks for the status update, I will check it out.
Gup
I thought it would be good to say something semi-intelligent(?) before the episode starts. I'm leaning toward the idea that, at the time of the Alexandra kidnapping:
Ben was spending time with the Others when he wanted. Roger didn't care where he was.
Ethan had been kidnapped and was permanently living with the Others. Horace and Amy would be bouncing off the walls if Ethan was disappearing from his bedroom at night at his age.
8) Jim
Jim, I agree. They would notice him gone. As a GOOD mother, which I think and hope I am, my little boy wouldn't be wandering around the mysterious island in the middle of the night.
I also don't like Kate. I love Evangeline. Just don't like the character of Kate, although I do have pics of her ALL over my myspace and I play mobsters and my name is "Evangeline Jacob." That has attracted many lost fans who tell me I look like her, but I don't. Not at all. I have one pic of me in black and white and my hair is dark, long, and curly. I think that is where it comes from. Online anyway. In person I am half Thai so there is NO WAY! That's it. If only we lived in a black and white world, I might be famous. I want to be on an episode of Lost so bad. My sis is working on it for me. LOL. Crap its 7:56! Cya in a bit!

Two mysteries solved.
Tapping on a beer can doesn’t stop it from fizzing over….and Cheng is Miles’ dad.
Answers!
Yes, we know that Miles is Chang's baby.
We know why Miles asked Ben for $3.2MM.
We know that Ilana et al do NOT work for Widmore, since the guy in the van that kidnapped Miles and his fish taco, is Ilana's henchman from the beach.
: ) P
KateTheGreat - I don't really like Kate on the show either. I can't put it into words exactly, she just isn't one of my faves. On that note, Jack is my least fave character (sorry Jack fans!)
Ok, so I hate to be "Debbie Downer" but I expected more from this epi. I think we got some good info, I guess I just expect that with only a few shows left, there would need to be big stuff each epi.
Did anyone else think that Miles was going to ring Chang's doorbell, Chang would answer w/ baby Miles in arm, and Chang's arm would explode or something?! I thought we might finally find out how he lost his arm! lol
Well, I can't get on the other blog. Don't have much to say. I NEVER complain about the show, but THAT to me was a filler episode. I still love the show though. So no FDW or Egyptian God. It was just Hurley trying to make his millions another way LOL.
Wow, thanks PJ! I missed BOTH those big answers! No wonder I was left feeling unfulfilled!
So if Llana is working for Ben, are they just pretending to not know each other? Or, does Llana not even know Ben is the captain of her "team"?
PJ said:
You say you think you know who Jayne is, Hammer? I know it is someone who has been to TLI, but obviously goes to TBI and at least one other blog. But I haven't figured out who it is.
++++++++++++
Yep, Jayne said she got exhiled from Hydra and had to change her handle(Cherry Awesome or whatever it is).
2 + 2 = GMTA LEAH
If not...who else got banished from TLI?
TBI's down for me already!
I really enjoyed this episode - loved all the answers we got. Loved Hurley's tie-in to Star Wars. (That put to rest all your great theories about Thoth! LOL Too bad, I think D&C should listen to you!)
We also now know that the plane at the bottom of the Sundra Trench really WAS put there by Widmore (at not Ben as there was a hint).
: ) P
Oh wait. Speaking of Kate, could she have BEEN any more obvious when she talked to Roger? I also wanted to slap Hurley when he said he wouldn't tell anybody about the dead body. Yes there were some answers, but I don't know.....just felt odd tonight. Maybe I am tired. No wait. It HAS to be cause last week's episode was so freaking awesome!
Help on the Llana et al thing.....
working for Alpert maybe?
Did Jayne really say she was banished from TLI? That isn't how I read it. It would take someone quite clever to be that funny - not that I am saying Leah isn't clever, just more that it didn't seem to be her KIND of wit.
No biggie.
: ) P
Yes PJ, the purchase order for Paik was a TRUTH from Ben!!
Yes PJ, the purchase order for Paik was a TRUTH from Ben!!
Well, it wasn't filler to me. It was edge-of-my-seat as usual. I loved it that we got some answers! Big ones too: we know that Miles has had his "gift" at least since they left the island; that Chang is his dad; that there are circles within circles in Dharma; and that a third party group seems to know an awful lot about the island - another reference to "what lies in the shadow of the statue". We know that Roger is still a jerk; and with Phil all tied up, Sawyer has some 'splaining to do - the beginning of the end for our LOSTies tranquil little Dharma lives? AND we now know (sort of) what Daniel has been up to!
Right, Daniel! That was huge. So I guess that he makes the video (from Comic-con) soon.
I want to know where his hard-hat scene falls into it all.
: ) P
I can't get on TBI to look up Jayne's post...but that's how I took it.
Right...no biggie.
Okay, so Miles WAS ABLE to look at his younger self. What are the implications there? Char didn't die so that she wouldn't see herself...did she die because she didn't have a constant?
Good night everyone! 5:00a.m. comes early for me. And by the way, welcome Gup! Any other lurkers out there, welcome to you too. See you in the morning!
'nite Rita...I'm getting up early too...but not for work...taking Jr. golfing at New Smyrna Beach...woo hoo...
Miles left the island when he was a baby. Charlotte was at least four (if that little red head was indeed Charlotte). Daniel thought the TD was affected by your time on the island, so that is probably why Charlotte died.
: ) P
yeah....how can Miles be a baby and a grown up in the same place? It doesn't seem........possible. Yet....it apparently is.
Another new question from my brother...since we now know Miles is another special that was born on the island....are we going to find out that Walt was born on the island? His mother seemed to 'travel' alot...did she work on the island?
Daniel's back!
I think we're getting closer to seeing the recording of the Comic Con 2008 video. The Chang family is very loving at the end of "Some Like it Hoth." By the time they get to the video he's yelling at her. Was that incidental or the beginning of the break-up?
Did Daniel get off the sub as a scientist (Was he "the scientist?") or was that someone else and Dan was just along for the ride because there was space available?
I accidentally saw the first line of the description of tonight's episode on my cable box before it started. It read, "Ben is kidnapped from the infirmary..." and I thought, "What? Again?" LOL
The title was definitely designed to be very uninformative.
8) Jim
So I'm reevaluating my disappointment with this epi and thinking it def served a big purpose - I think we got some signs tonight that point to Widmore's team being the 'bad' guys. I think TPTB need us to still debate who is good/bad and tonight we learned some things that make it seem Widmore has been shady. I still stick to the belief that neither side is 'good' or 'bad', but now we know for sure Widmore has lied/covered stuff up/misled the public re 815.
I want to know what made Chang leave Miles/wife. Do we think maybe when he learns from Daniel about the purge, he makes Miles' mom hate him so she will take Miles off the island?

Actually, I am starting to think maybe a combination of both...faster intensity of symptoms combined with no constant.
Hurley's pretty confident that he has relationships w/ dead people....maybe his dead people aren't really dead since he can do what Miles says isn't how communicating with the dead really works.

I think Daniel TELLS Chang that there is going to be an incident and since he KNOWS that the baby is Miles, he tells Chang to get them off the island. I think Chang has no way of doing that other than to be mean enough to make them run away.
That would be the afterschool special version anyway!
: ) P
I agree KF, I really think Widmore represents the bad side and Ben et al represent the good side....war upcoming...
So for WHOM are Ilana et al working?
That is the big question of the night for me!

I took it as Miles 'way' isn't the Whisperers. He is 'reading' what they 'were' and Hurley is see what they are NOW.
I really wish something more had happened when Hurley saw the Hatch being built. I kept expecting him to try to change the numbers or something! I am curious why it was so top secret though.
Query: If one of our Losties destroys the Hatch in 1977, will 815 still crash? More importantly, will any of them try?
So I'm reevaluating my disappointment with this epi and thinking it def served a big purpose I think that this speaks to how obsessed fans vs casual viewers are going to see this episode.
The casual fan isn't going to remember what Chang's wife looked like and have figured out that the little boy was Miles right away.
The CF isn't going to remember the $3.2MM number.
The CF isn't going to remember Ilana's henchman from the beach.
I suspect this episode will have done NOTHING for the CF.
: ) P
yes hammer. it makes perfect sense.

I agree, she never told Miles because she thinks the he should never go to the island....many folks seem to think the island is bad that used to be 'family' of DHARMA.
I agree that it will be interesting to see how Hurley's dead people and Miles' dead people turn out.
I think that Naomi confirmed that Whisperers are a whole lot of dead people though, don't you think, Hammer?!
: ) P
I agree about the CF thing PJ, this is why I'm super disappointed with myself for not catching those things!
I'm usu the person that my friends/fam ask for the things CFs miss! I must be losing it :( lol!

That would be the afterschool special version anyway!Or the yelling was incidental. (What married couple has yelled once or twice?) Pierre said, "Lara, you have to go and take Miles with you. If he ever asks, tell him I kicked you out. Make me the bad guy. I love you; now, get on the submarine."

Don't beat yourself up, now! We all have an "off" day every ONCE in a while! At least you admitted you're rethinking things now that you've read a bit. I have a feeling that there will be people who continue to say the episode was just filler!
: ) P
Universal was pretty okay. I got to put on my Spidey jammies and check out the Spiderman 3D attraction...pretty cool.
The rest is so-so. The Hulk ride is really cool as is the Mummy Returns ride. The rest of the park is 'just filler'...hehe.

The more I read what everyone is discussing though, the more I am starting to feel better.
Jim...I'm glad you said that...watching on on 20" regular TV at the condo and couldn't make out the right.

Here's my 'btfb' post (Hammer, it cracks me up every time you say this; my dad used to always tuck me into bed w/ this saying. I never knew what it meant until you!)
If we believe Daniel tells Chang about the purge and this is why Change sends Miles/mom away, then we have to accept that what happened, happened, right? If not, Daniel wouldn't have told Chang of the purge in the original 1977 and Chang wouldn't have made Miles leave, so Miles would have died in the purge, no?
KF, I think you've got it. The video has Cheng saying that when you see this 'it' will have already happened. So Miles likely tells Cheng....hoping someone will find a way to change WHH....
It really depends on your definition of WHH, I think.
To me, WHH means that the grand scheme of things doesn't change even though small details might - because of course correction.
Miles is supposed to be off the island. If Daniel doesn't get him off, he would get off somehow.
Just like if Sawyer and Juliet hadn't saved Amy, she still would have survived and become pregnant and given birth to Ethan.
: ) P
I meant to say Cheng made the video hoping to get help changing WHH...
I agree with PJ's version of WHH....but I think the other part of the theory...that Miles tells Cheng...who then makes the video, trying to get someone to TT and change WHH.
I still think that the WHH rule is going to get broken at some point...just like D is D did(IMO).
One more and I gotta go to bed. Which came first, the serial number on the hatch or...?
8) Jim
"Dead is dead, even on the island," came out of BEN's mouth, so I don't know that I necessarily believe that one! LOL
I like your evaluation of the daddy issues, DocH - and of Hurley as Dr. Phil.
Almost time for Bonzo's Jane to head to bed herself.
: ) P
Jim, I'm going with the Valenzetti equation came first...isn't it why DHARMA was started in the first place?
I totally expected Hugo to say "uhh, dude. The last number is 43."
Oh mylanta, me too!
Now here is the thing... IS IT Hurley's voice repeating those numbers over the radio broadcast? I have never heard a sound clip of it, but would like to, if anyone can direct me to it.
: ) P
flgrl just caught something interesting on TBI.
Note that when Naomi is giving Miles his proposition she says that there are lots of dead people “residing” on the island and not that there are lots of dead people buried on the island or existing on the island, but residing.
I didn't pick up on that!
: ) P
I hear ya on the DID being a lie from Ben PJ...but...I think maybe Ben didn't know that John was going to come back to life. THAT was the lie in his discussion(that he knew Locke would be alive). I think it furthers my theory that RA is behind Llana et al. He is no longer in the 'know' since he broke the rules.
LOL. I didn't mean flgrl CAUGHT something on TBI. I mean she caught something on the episode and POSTED it on TBI.
I think it might be getting too late for me!

That and the last scene with Faraday were definitely the most important to me.
Also, I'm never disappointed with an episode. I think they all serve their purpose.
oops sorry. I was reading while you were posting about my post on TBI that I didn't think went in. I'm getting so confused!
No worries, flgrl! I just didn't know if you were going to visit TLI tonight and it was a REALLY good point that I didn't want the TLI'ers to miss.
: ) P
flgrl, great catch. Widmore wasn't counting on Miles needing the bodies be there or that Miles can only find out what they 'knew' up until they died. Widmore needs Hurly to find out what they know NOW.
Widmore needs Hurly to find out what they know NOW.LOL.
I'm still of the mind that Hurley doesn't REALLY talk to dead people. We didn't see Eko. He thought Jack and his doctor were both dead. I won't meantion C----ie. *g*
: ) P
I know you are thinking that way PJ...but as you know...I think that Hurley does talk to dead folks and especially since SOMEONE convinced him to go back to the island...he doesn't think he's crazy anymore....maybe?
LOL. I hear ya, Hammer!
: ) P
I remember it being discussed but can someone please refresh my memory. When Sayid got Hurley to leave the mental hospital, did the camera flash back and forth a couple of times, and the chess pieces moved?
I didn't see anything move, Tasha. There was talk of it on TBI, but it was all conjecture. If you watch the scene, nothing moved.
: ) P
So here's a question, how does Widmore know that these dead people RESIDE on the island? That lends itself to HIS having the same gift perhaps? And also that he was there for the purge as we suspected.
: ) P
Maybe or maybe not the same gift, but if Widmore was born on the island...be likely as some sort of gift.
Well I can't get TBI to come up at all. Last post I saw was flgrl's which was post 111. Looks like all the TBI downtime's caused our post-count to catch up!
LOL
: ) P
Bedtime for Bonzo.
If Faraday was off the island for three years...did he go talk to his younger self in the outside world...put a bunch of entries into his notebook and come back with a way to change WHH?
If Faraday was off the island for three years...did he go talk to his younger self in the outside world...put a bunch of entries into his notebook and come back with a way to change WHH?
THAT was worth staying up for, Bonzo!
WOW. YES! Perfect!
: ) P
I thank you(bows...exits stage left)....I'm an idiot.
Good night.
I liked Hurley talking about Star Wars and how Luke got his hand cut off because he didn’t know his father, and isn’t Chang the guy that loses an arm?
I did think it was interesting that Daniel had been a scientist from Ann Arbor. I’m thinking the scene that we already saw with Dan and Chang in the Orchid must have happened after tonight, so what was Dan learning about off-island?
Kimmel’s LOST secrets for tonight - from Hurley - Furley(sp?) from Three’s Company was always arguing with Jack…
Whenever someone gets a screencap of the Egyptian stuff on the blackboard, please post it, I was trying to read it, but Jack kept erasing it!! I saw something about Old Egypt and Middle Egypt, I think...
All I have to say is…the next (new) episode is the 100th - it had better include Faraday and it had better be good!!!
Hammer:
Yes PJ, the purchase order for Paik was a TRUTH from Ben!!It sure looked like it. It also appears that Ben doesn't believe in the old saying about not killing the messenger, if that was in fact the who the dead man on the table was.
That was the best Secrets of LOST yet DocH. I was also a huge 3's Company fan and still catch it sometimes on cable.
Just finished watching and reading over hear on the west coast! Hmmm... Its hard finding new stuff to say when just about everything I noticed has already been mentioned. Here's some stuff I agree with:
1. Dr. Chang knew that the purge was coming thanks to Faraday and friends, which made him scare away the missus. In reality he's a kind dad.
2. I like Eloise for the leader of the 3rd party. Makes sense.
3. Not as exciting as some episodes, but no filler either! Personally, I think that Miles has been due for a background episode for some time.
I'm gonna guess that we learn about Faraday's whereabouts in the next episode. Yay!
One more thing, and this is nit-picking. I'm going to want to see a screencap of the chalkboard in the classroom AND the periodic table of elements that was up in the class. It seemed to me like there were some elements included in the table that were not discovered and named until much later than 1977, but it was hard to tell. If it was a modern table, could it be attributed to an oversight on the part of the set crew, or is it a clue to Dharma secrets??? Haha! I need to go to bed.
That's too bad doc. You must have missed Ritter's brilliance as a comedic actor. It, after all was a sit-com. But calling it out is PC now, I guess.
Miles was trying to confirm with Ben that he would be on his team for double his fee from team Widmore. Now if Bram worked for Ben, Ben would have understood what Miles meant about 3.2 Mil. Did he? I can’t remember.
Yeah. I found it. My second post ever on TBI.

Haven't been to TBI so if this was already posted sorry....

These are coming from Lost Easter Eggs...is that an alien I see? JK
Is it just me or has there ALWAYS been pics next to our name up here. My PC crashed last night and now that I am working on it there are pics next to everyone's name.....
They were studying about "Phonetics" as well, hmmmm I am going to go catch up on TBI now so I dont repeat anything.
Tasha,
Don't feel like you HAVE to keep up on TBI. We don't mind discussing stuff that has already been brought up there. There are some TLI'ers who don't go to TBI at all, so no worries.
: ) P
PJ,
That is good to know. Sometimes after reading all those comments things get overlooked. It's easier for me to keep up over here for now because I am dealing with Lost and trying to get my computer straitened out at the same time. I am on the verge of taking this laptop and throwing it out in the street. I think I am having a Locke breakdown.
Ok. WHere is Hammer today? Isn't Leah in another country? Those posts from Jayne seem to be coming from the East coast here in US and NO I can't tell anyone how I know that. Oh except for 2 of them which I posted. I was the one that said Yoda spell checker was in island temple. Other than that, it hasn't been me. Just in case anyone wanted a confirmation that it isn't Jayne is most likely not Leah. LOL
Tasha, I thought you were Jayne, and then I didn't. Now I know why. I don't think it's Leah either but I'm not sure who it is.
I think some, if not all, of the others are the dead people residing on the island. Not (just) the whisperers. Dead people re-animated by Others' spirits so to speak. The whisperers could be others without a current host.
That sounds really good, CM. I think that makes a lot of sense, and sort of ties together the two theories.
I am now wondering if hank vega is also Leah. He definitely KNOWS her if it is not the same person. He was one of our detractors during the Leah debacle and obviously is in the UK as well.
I am still having trouble getting on TBI. Not sure why today!?
: ) P
Yeah I posted something like 5 times and it still hasn't showed up so I hope it dont come up multiple eventually. So I guess I will add it here.
Duke said something about Porter. Am I missing something? Who is Porter? Only Porter I know of is Walt's dad, Brian. What is the name of the guy Sawyer knocked out?
No, the guy with the video tape was Phil.
Dunno who Porter is.
: ) P
NVM. I just watched it again. I think he said "Report Her."
LOL. okay!
: ) P
I haven't been able to log onto TBI for hours - I wonder what's up? Maybe Widmore has taken over! LOL.
Before it "moved" there was talk on TBI about for whom Bram (and probably ilana) are working. One suggestion (and I think it might been one of you) was Mrs. Hawking, or Alpert, since we know it isn't Widmore and likely isn't Ben.
Ideas?
: ) P
I am the one that thinks Llana's group works for RA. I think it was flgrl that thinks they are working for Eloise.
Is anyone able to get on TBI? It is nearly 5pm here, and I haven't been able to get on almost all day. Maybe it's me. Maybe I have been exiled! LOL
: ) P
Nope can't get on TBI.
Weird, I can't get on TBI either. I just got home from work and RAN to my computer, but at least we have this wonderful little island! Thank you again PJ!
I was wondering about the serial number on the hatch door. I thought it was odd to put a serial number on a one-of-a-kind custom made hatch door, and to put it on in the field at that. I realize that the scene was more about Hurley discovering the building of their hatch and the appearance of the numbers, but really?
He is a tac Hammer :)
Golf is ALWAYS great, but Tac beat me by 3 strokes. Yep, he's 11 and already better than dad. He will be playing in a 9 hole, 9 tournaments tour this summer. If he finishes in the top three of any of the 9 tourneys he goes to a Tournament of Champions.
Litte sh@t!
Interesting too that Hurley now views his ability to see and talk with dead people as not only a gift, but a more powerful gift that Miles' ability.
Who else KNEW Miles was lying to the "dad" about the "he knew you loved him" bit?
I think the 'serial' numbers are NOT serial numbers...they just called it that to keep the laborers ignorant. The numbers in my opinion have always been the factors in the Valenzetti equation.
I figured he was lying, he KNEW he had to have a body...he ONLY went back because he scored big money and decided to give the dad crap about not telling his son things when he had the chance.
Doc's answer is better than mine.
I figured Miles was lying to the dad because of his reaction to the cremation. I expected him to ask to be taken to the football field, but that would have been another unnecessary location shot.
I like the ideas about the numbers on the hatch. Another possibility is that anyone entering the hatch through that door would know the numbers they needed to push "in case of emergency" or something.

I thought he might ask to go to his bedroom, or something similar to the first time we ever saw Miles and he had the vacuum cleaner machine thingee - there was no body there either.
I didn't believe that Miles' performance for the football player's dad was real for a second. It was pretty clear that the cremation made it impossible, Miles just wanted the money ("It'll cost extra"), and all he said was exactly what the dad wanted to hear.
I was actually relieved when he went back to give back the money because I wouldn't have to read 100s of comments about whether or not it was real!
I'm still not sure that the cremation made it impossible KtheG. He didn't need a body the first time we saw him. Yes, he has had one every time we've seen him SINCE then, unless this is their way of telling us that was phony too?
So, if the dead guy was delivering proof to Widmore that the plane in the Sundra trench was faked then Widmore didn't fake it. I think Ilana's group did. I don't think they work for Ellie or RA because they seem to me to be the real bad guys. They all have the feel of merceraries.
Ben thinks Widmore faked it. Widmore thinks Ben faked it. I think it's team tres.
Rita, I don't think it was faked when he went into the kids room. He found the money didn't he? I suppose he could have talked to teh body at the morgue and then went to the house to get it but there would be no reason to do more than run his machine for the moms benefit. He wouldn't have said "You can go now." at the end.
Perhaps he can talk to the dead person in their past surrondings as long as there is a body somewhere. Creamation might be what limits him.
Sounds good to me CM, thanks!
Another possibility is that anyone entering the hatch through that door would know the numbers they needed to push "in case of emergency" or something.I think this makes more sense to me than anything else I've seen or thought about. A serial number on a door should not really be related to the tasks done inside the room. That has been bugging me.
Rita: Good point... but I think I'm with CM on this. In the case of finding the money in the kids room, I think there was a body SOMEWHERE that made it possible. And they did the whole shaky camera effect to show that something was actually happening, similar to what they did in this episode.
Speaking of cremation, could this be a clue as to why Others get cremated at sea? Hmmm!
LOL I never said I THOUGHT the kid's room scene was phony, just throwing it out there!
And KthG, I like your thoughts about the "cremation at sea" of the Others.
So, if the dead guy was delivering proof to Widmore that the plane in the Sundra trench was faked then Widmore didn't fake it.
I didn't hear it that way, but I will have to go back and watch again to be sure.
I don't think they work for Ellie or RA because they seem to me to be the real bad guys. They all have the feel of merceraries.
Very good point. Voldemort perhaps?
LOL.
Btw, I have noticed that when we use italics, the natural line breaks seem to disappear. I have been adding a [br][br] after mine to make the separation (only use the same triangle brackets as you do when you make italics). HTH
: ) P
So how badly do you need to to put serial numbers on hatch doors? How many of them does the DHARMA Initiative have, anyway? They're neat pictures over at the LP. The numbers are raised way back when; now they're stamped. Of course in real time the now and then are backwards. The numbers Hurley freaked over right before they blew the hatch door are in a different place.
I think it was all about giving Hurley a moment of recognition. The right answer for Miles, who doesn't care what's going on, was to start the engine and drive away as soon as Chang said he could.
The Pierre Chang we've come to know this season isn't nice to very many people, especially those who are "below" him. Apparently a loving father, though, in spite of the cover story for Miles' benefit.
8) Jim
The Pierre Chang we've come to know this season isn't nice to very many people, especially those who are "below" him.
True, but I can't say I'm that shocked. Chang never showed a mean tempered side to himself in the videos, but he didn't exactly seem very kind either. To me, he came off as creepy and untrustworthy. I'm glad we're seeing more of him though!

I'm glad we're seeing more of [Chang] though!Agreed. Beware the boss who smiles too much!
On Miles:
I had a feeling that Miles' "talking" to the dead athlete was a scam helping establish that he went through a predatory period. He had kind of redeemed himself back in "Confirmed Dead" when he charged the grandmother(?) extra, then gave it back to her. Here he gets some real religion.
Did Miles find out about his background from his mother? We don't have to see it to conclude it happened. He knew something that made him want to stay behind when Daniel told him it was time to get on the Zodiac. My guess is he never heard his father whisper to him or he wouldn't have been so down on the ol' man.
8) Jim
About the serial numbers on the hatch...coming from an accounting/auditing background, any time you do an equipment audit, the #1 way that I've seen companies/operations track their equipment that they have out in the field is through serial numbers, so that would be a logical way to keep track of the equipment that they installed at the Swan. In the industry I worked in, EVERYTHING had a serial number and it was all tracked. It's a easy way to know what is where.
Regarding the kidnapping van dudes, I think they work for "the island"/Alpert. They talked about how Miles wasn't ready and he didn't know enough and whatever, it all seemed a little cheesy to me, but it didn't sound like anything Ben/Widmore would use to motivate someone. It sounded more like the ways that Alpert tried to recruit people, like with Locke - "you're special", "we have a special school (or camp, I can't remember) for you"...
Anyway, there's my 2 cents :)
LINS
I don't think it was faked when he went into the kids room. He found the money didn't he?
I agree. The cremation / body thing is going to be important I think, otherwise we would not have seen that part of the flashback.
: ) P
Seriously - she looked like she had just gone through a month of Chemo - or three decades of prolonged exposure to low level radiation.
Good catch, DocH. My mind went automatically to cancer, but the radiation thing could be it. Maybe that's why there was a purge, because everyone was going to die of radiation poisoning anyway?
Or, it could be that the mom got the cancer because of the exposure. Heck, that could be why the women were dying while pregnant!
We know that the incident pre-dates the purge. Maybe the incident is why the Swan had the concrete barriers, and why the numbers had to be pushed.
One final thing about pregnant women which I have thought of but not sure if I posted. Some women, with overactive immune systems, have bodies which "reject" the fetus because the body recognizes it as a "foreign object" in the system.
We know that the island cured Rose's cancer and allowed Locke to walk, as well as heals gunshot and other wounds extremely quickly. Perhaps whatever healing power the island has also gives pregnant women that overactive immune system?
: ) P
CM: So, if the dead guy was delivering proof to Widmore I am guessing he worked for Ben. I think he was the person in the video being kidnapped by Widmore that Ben showed us last year. I think Widmore found out that Ben had the info and killed him. It also served as proof for Naomi that Miles could do what they needed him to do.
JIG:The numbers are raised way back when; now they're stampedI haven't seen the episode in a while but I remembered the numbers in Season 1 being on the side of the hatch and not on the hatch door itself. Maybe they stamped the numbers on the inside and they protruded through to make them appear raised on the outside?
LINS: Regarding the kidnapping van dudes, I think they work for "the island"/Alpert. They talked about how Miles wasn't ready and he didn't know enough and whatever,They seemed more "enlightened" than both Ben and Widmore about the power the island holds. To me, they appeared to be good, but that is the classic twist. They could very well be the worst. I am wondering if they are the ones that Walt was referring to in his dream about Locke and the angry people. If so, how would that play into them working for Alpert?
PJ: We know that the incident pre-dates the purge. Maybe the incident is why the Swan had the concrete barriers, and why the numbers had to be pushed. That's straight from the Swan orientation film starring Dr. Marvin Candle.:) I hope I broke the italics better.
Guess I didn't do that right. where do you add the [br]? After the part you want in italics or after each ?
PJ said:

That is an excellent theory but that depends on when the island started to heal people. If it is the same time that the pregnancy problems begin, then I think you are definitely onto something. However, if the island has always healed than I would say there is some other reason. Maybe healing Lil Ben started the problem?
l4e
I think the dead guy that Miles read for Naomi worked for Widmore but whoever staged the fake plane worked for "Team tres" not Widmore of Ben.
If the numbers were stamped on the inside and raised on the outside they would be backwards. Probally just a production error.
I agree that the van folks were the people from Walt's dream. I don't think they work for RA and I saw them as entirely evil.

I am surprised that the Hostiles would allow them to build ANYTHING at the site where they buried Jughead. They have "hidden" it, sure, but that wouldn't seem to stop Alpert's group from stopping them. Am I right in thinking that the whole area was supposedly "off limits" to Dharma? Either Jughead isn't there, they are breaking the truce (and getting away with it), or something else is going on.
PJ said...We know that the island cured Rose's cancer and allowed Locke to walk, as well as heals gunshot and other wounds extremely quickly. Perhaps whatever healing power the island has also gives pregnant women that overactive immune system?______________________________
I could understand this is THE BABY was the one who died, but in our case, the PREG WOMEN AND the babies died. If the immune system rejects the baby, she just miscarries. It would seem more likely then that the exposure to radiation messes with the reproductive system in some way, that allows a pregnancy to occur, but not carry to term AND kills the mother. Women (Claire) who get pregnant OFF island havent' had the exposure yet so they are alright. Maybe Sun just hadn't been exposed long enough yet, so she was OK too. (But then, she got off island "in time" - before the 7th (?) month, when everyone usually dies). OK, I don't have a clue.
I think that if we want to go with the radiation sickness killing the babies and mom it makes sense. If a baby is exposed to too much radiation after the week 16 to birth, the mother would likely get radiation sickness and probably die. Only thing is, why wouldn't Jewlz or Ben know that? I always wanted to think there was a more mythical explanation to this, but I know they want to stick with the science too.

Oh, yes, the Army had real strange rules about serial numbers. A .45-calibre automatic pistol that cost something $15 - $20 once upon a time would have a serial number; a huge metal door that cost a lot more would not. It's a little harder to steal the metal door than the pistol. If I were allowed, I'd tell the story about a small item with a serial number...
DocH said...
Anyone mention or notice Miles (from nowhere's) mom... and her illness? Her hair was receding faster than an Army Intel Warrant Officer from hard work.
I'm not sure about the radiation and cancer thing. How long does it take for a dose of radiation to causes an effect if one is no longer in range of the source? I think when I -- theoretically -- had to worry about such things in the Army, the rule of thumb was, "If exposed and you don't start puking in a few hours, you're probably going to be okay."
Lost has been playing a little fast and loose on nuclear subjects since "Jughead." That cracked casing meant that the weapon was less likely to detonate than if it were undamaged. Danger from radiation decreases with distance (maybe with the square of the distance). Daniel was at his greatest risk when he was up on the scaffolding.
Couple of little items:
There's a big discussion about who "Porter" is. Roger supposedly said to Jack about Kate that he was going to go to Horace and Porter. Current "wisdom" is that he said "go to Horace and rePORT hER."
If, as suggested, the voice reciting the numbers is Hurley's, how do they get him to do that in light of how hyper he gets?
Almost time for my morning nap!

I posted on TBI and wondering what everyone thinks? Llana's team=Future Islanders/Some Leader.
Good point about the engraving CM. After JIG mentioned it I had to search for a screencap myself. I found one when the first time the numbers were shown on the outer casing of the swan. It definitely doesn't look like the same area they were stamping them in the last episode. They do, IMO, appear to be stamped and not raised.
http://tinyurl.com/d4ouqc
Rita, regarding Jughead, I like the theory that they might have buried it near the Swan. Do we really know that they ever buried it, or is that just assumed they did?
Ok, so I had to do a lot of searching to find this - It was the first epi I commented on TBI, One of Us:
I don’t know if any of you watch House, but they had an episode about a woman who’s body started treating the fetus like a parasite
there, the problem was with the fetus, not the mother
so maybe there is something wrong with the babies, not the momsWhen you started talking about this PJ, it reminded me of something I had commented about years ago! I still don't know how it all fits in though!
L4E said: Rita, regarding Jughead, I like the theory that they might have buried it near the Swan. Do we really know that they ever buried it, or is that just assumed they did?__________________________________
I believe (from memory) that during Sawyer's and Richard's conversation at Dharma, Richard confirmed that they had buried it. We've all been suggesting for a while now that it was buried at the Swan. Just wondering how they (Dharma) are getting away with building there, why would the Hostiles not notice or care?
About the serial numbers... maybe they put that same serial number on EVERY (removable) part of the hatch? We saw them put it on that door, but maybe they put it on a lot of other things too?
IDK.

JIG, I posted this on TBI last night.
My senario for the last five minutes of Lost.
Due to what he has learned Hurley rushes out to the radio tower and broadcasts the numbers, over and over. Full Circle.
I think that grid 334, or whatever the number is, is off limites because Chang said to, not the hostels. Dharmaville dosn't know this, except JIM, and now Miles and Hurley.
It's also possible that Widmore is working with both sides now and participating in some of the secret research.
I don't buy the radiation having anything to do with the babies. I still think that will be time travel or the statue.
Due to what he has learned Hurley rushes out to the radio tower and broadcasts the numbers, over and over. Full Circle.
That WOULD be full circle. I am not sure it would be very satisfying, but it makes sense!
To answer the line break question... I put this at the end of my italics (replace square brackets with triangle brackets):
[br][br]
Then I type whatever should not be in italics after that. I am not sure why it suddenly started doing that!
Is anyone else feeling like the comments at TBI are a bit discombobulated? Other than TLI'ers, it seems like most of the posts are bit off center? Maybe it is because I keep having trouble getting in. IDK.

Could be, Circus Mom! Interesting, though, how we have moved to JIM - from Sawyer, to James, and now its JIM. I think he likes to be in the "circle of trust" for once - I don't think he will give it up easily, but will try to hang on to it somehow.

I think after the bickering a couple of threads ago that only the die hards like us and Duke stayed around on TBI. Bunches of newbees who have discovered Lost but don't know the charactors and epi's like we do. Losts of misquotes and mistaken identities. I don't guess that will change much.
We must train them in the LOST JEDI ways.

Interesting... I had pretty much forgotten that Sawyer has been in the "Circle of Trust" for a while now. I wonder what he has seen, what he thinks of all of it with his perspective as a time traveler from the future, and why he hasn't clued the rest of his friends in. Weird.
Ok, this might be totally off base but I was just thinking about the question, "What lies in the shadow of the statue?"
Could this be a question to see which team you are on? Ie, which team leader (Ben or Widmore or Ellie if you think 3 teams) is the one who is lying (deceiving) everyone about the island?
So Bram asks Miles the question, and then says if he doesn't know he isn't ready to visit the island, implying that if Miles doesn't know who is the 'good' team yet, he isn't ready to go to the island b/c he may end up working for the lying team?
This is probably entirely wrong, I just am trying to think what that darn question means!!
I like where you're going with that, kF. But maybe if he KNEW the answer, something else would have happened? Maybe if he'd known the answer, they might have killed him?
: ) P
New people:
Yeah, I keep seeing new user names over at the LP and I'd swear some of these people have never watched an episode except for the one they're commenting on.
We inherited a new "capability" when LP moved to Wikia. There's a procedure for reporting problems with pages and some people use it to report content that's incorrect. SO FIX IT ALREADY! Sorry, I feel much better now. *grin*
Prepare to be bored to tears.
I decided to go poking around for the Valenzetti Equation. There is a non-necessarily canon version on the LP at:
http://lostpedia.wikia.com/wiki/
Image:Valenzettiequationfull.jpg
The interesting thing is that the equation has nine variables (or more, depending on how ya count 'em, not counting i) and we only know of six numbers. I may have once had the math to solve the equation, but not any more. It would help to know which value goes into which variable!
8) Jim
@ TLI'ers and Duke. I can't take his crap anymore....I don't care if he has good points or not. I hate web blogs with loud mouth 20 somethings that have no respect people.
I am very angry that Nick responded to Duke's complaint about the problems with the site, proving he is montitoring the comments, but chooses to allow him to be offensive both in language and to people in general.....I for one miss when Andreas owned TBI.

It’s interesting that Ben should have told Danielle to “run the other way if you ever hear whispers” (paraphrase). The whispers are threatening then? Could be harmful? NOT just TT passing through then.

Well the whispers happen when the Others appear. I think it was D&C’s way of telling us that is how she was able to stay alive for 16 years AND prove she wasn’t in cahoots with the Others in any way.

@ TLI'ers and Duke. I can't take his crap anymore....
Duke has never caused me any grief (unless he was the one mocking my handle), but his attitude annoys me. As I said earlier, I have trouble paying attention to TBI.
Keeping up with TBI is one web site to many. If anything super important happens over there, please let me know.

Funny doc!
While I found your comments about Mrs. Chang and her condition more offensive than anything I ever saw on 3's Company's, I find your latest statement very inspirational.
Is it time to CHEAT again and start discussing the next episode yet?
