The Story of the Oceanic 6

In a pre-cursor to the ONE HUNDREDTH EPISODE of LOST next week, ABC is choosing to air a special "clip show" which promises to give us a new look at what we've already seen. Upon reading the Press Release, it would seem that we will actually see new footage. Perhaps some that was rescued from the cutting room floor?

Here is the Press Release from ABC:

WHAT TRANSPIRED FOR BOTH THE OCEANIC 6 AND THE REMAINING ISLAND SURVIVORS DURING THE THREE YEARS AFTER THE ISLAND WAS MOVED WILL BE EXPLORED, IN THE NEW SPECIAL, "LOST: THE STORY OF THE OCEANIC 6," WEDNESDAY, APRIL 22 ON ABC

ABC once again invites new and avid "Lost" viewers to take another look at one of the most talked about and critically acclaimed shows. "Lost: The Story of the Oceanic 6" will explore the series in a way that will bring new viewers up to date -- but which current viewers will also find illuminating - in discovering what happened to the Oceanic 6 and the remaining island survivors during the three years after Ben moved the island. The special airs WEDNESDAY, APRIL 22 (9:00-10:02 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.

Jack, Kate, Hurley, Sayid, Sun and Claire's son Aaron - otherwise known as the Oceanic 6 - were rescued and tried to pick up the pieces of the lives they knew before the crash and to perpetuate the lie concocted to hide the truth about what really happened. But Jack and Ben had to convince all of them to return to the island in order to save those left behind. Although they eventually did go back - sans Aaron -- what could possibly have been the motivating factors for each, and exactly how - and when -- did they return? As for those left behind on the island, violent shifts through time were wreaking havoc on their lives. Discover how Locke's leaving the island under the guise of Jeremy Bentham may have helped end the time rifts, and what led to his eventual death in the outside world.

Did anyone watch Heroes last night? There were so many references to LOST! They talked about having a constant, but I think instead they called it an anchor, and they actually said word for word, "dead is dead", and at the end, the time-stopping hero Hiro's power wouldn't work and he got a bad nosebleed. It was funny.

PJSander said...

I don't watch Heroes, but dh has said a couple of times that Tim Kring has been taking a page from the Abrams / Lindelof / Cuse book for almost every episode. I don't think he's seen this week's episode yet, but I look forward to hearing more about it!

LOL

I'm so sad we don't get a "new" episode tonight. Next Wednesday seems so far away... :(

Same with The Fringe last night. JJ Abrams is so awesome LOL. On the Fringe, Ms. Klugh was in it last night. She is pretty when she is all done up. Her voice makes her so mysterious. In 1979 they were doing top secret experiments on children when they were born. They were being prepared to serve in a "coming war. Not a war of hatred and anger...a battle for survival." The war was against denizens of the parallel universe. There was more, but it was kind of crazy and on my mind:)

PJSander said...

I am pretty sure that "experiments on children" was part of Alias too. I loved that show. I keep expecting the Rimbaldi stuff to show up in LOST or Fringe. We have three Fringe episodes on TiVo. Not sure if any of them are new. Maybe last night's?

Last night was called "Bad Dreams."

I've never seen Fringe. Maybe over the summer break I will try to catch it and see what its about. I'm with LINS - so sad that there is no new episode tonight. The clip show will be better than nothing, but only barely. :(

Here's a little recap of something that happened on TBI "last week."

JZ said something.

Duke told him he had no sense.

Toeknee (I think) said that was rude to say.

Duke said he could say whatever he wanted.

I said that was true, but that he didn't have to be MEAN about it.

Several other people called him out and he kept defending himself, rather than his theory.

Then the conversation turned back to what JZ said in the first place.

Well JZ has returned to that thread and has added a well-worded finis. Since the thread is essentially dead (new one has been posted), I thought I would share it here for your entertainment:

Sorry I missed this whole conversation….I’m glad I raised some eyebrows, but it looks like Duke won that battle….and in a very classy way might I add. Duke-don’t be offended when someone calls you out for having a weak argument off the bat. If you want to sound at all intellectual and be viewed as a smart person by the other people on the blog then simply just explain yourself and not attack anyone in the mean time. Everyone will appreciate you much more.

IF YOU DON’T CARE-then don’t continue to defend yourself because in that case you clearly do and try to prove AFTER the fact that you didn’t mean harm. It’s lame absent apology that no one will ever care to understand.

Hi- I also noticed the Lost references on Heroes- esp Hiro's nosebleed! I am doubly sad that there is no new Lost tonite. It's been a rough week at work- I'm in a dept of 2 that just got cut to 1-I'm the sole survivor and a little shell shocked. Gup

Hang in there Gup - I lost my job back in October and have been happily enjoying unemployment since then! With the job loss came the loss of my only non-blogging LOST friends though, so that was sad.

Sorry to hear about the job thing, Gup, that has to be tough. Honestly, it is probably better that than no job in this economy, though!

As for the episode tonight, I am thrilled we get SOMETHING instead of NOTHING. The last "clip show" was really quite good, so I hope this one won't disappoint.

Hello all!

I too am v sad we have no new LOST tonight, but hopeful the recap show will indeed cast things in a new light.

As for Fringe, I'm a big fan as well. I didn't catch Ms. Klugh though, was she the one who Olivia 'pushed' into the subway at the beginning?

I also thought it was cool that they talked about the drug that they experimented on kids with was all about expanding perception - even mentioned Castaneda and Huxley!

And Gup/TXYork - I feel for ya! Graduating top of my law school class and no jobs to be found :(

Gup said...

Thanks for the support...
I also missed Ms Klugh in Fringe last night. She wasn't the one that got pushed in front of the subway- that was a young woman.

KateTheGreat said...

I wasn't planning on watching tonight's clip show, but after the promise of a few new crumbs I just might. I can't stand the clip shows because I get bored of watching the stuff I've already watched. This may shock you, but I don't ever watch the episodes more than once! I don't have the attention span. I'll watch tonight, but I'll be grumpy (yet not surprised) if the promotional info was misleading.

PJSander said...

LOL, KtG!

The first clip show "Destiny Calls" which started the season was really good IMO. Hopefully this will be as good.

: ) P

PJSander said...

Okay, so nothing new to speak of. We have it confirmed for SURE (in Alpert's voice, no less) that Eloise Hawking IS Daniel Faraday's mother.

We heard what Kate heard on the phone, in her DREAM, "you have to come back."

I don't remember seeing Locke talking to Kate, which we did tonight. Did he? Am I just forgetting?

: ) P

PJSander said...

We also got confirmation of the timelines for wheel turning, which was helpful.

Otherwise, yeah, this was a catch-up for the casual viewer.

Tasha said...

PJ...

Yes, we saw Jeremy/John talk to Kate.

PJSander said...

Thanks, Tasha. I don't know why I don't remember that!

She was the one they met at the subway and then she ended up showing them the video of the woman falling/ being pushed onto the rail. I guess she played a detective.

lost4ever said...

One word...boring. I wish I could have that hour of my life back.

Are we to take the stuff in the clip show as canon? I hope so. We can put to rest the Hawking/Faraday's mother question as well as Charlie being dead.:) I found the fact ( if it was ) on the timeline very helpful. Airja crashed landed on the runway in 2007, so 3 years isn't EXACTLY 3 years.

As for the duke problem on TBI, I was glad to call him out when he knocked JZ ( the rapper? ). It was a mean statement, just like when he told Hammer he "seemed smarter than that".

I have not watched the newer episodes of Fringe since they came back from that way too long break. I love that show but am holding out to watch them all in one sitting. BTW, Abrams doesn't have much to do with LOST anymore, if anything at all.

PJSander said...

I think we can consider it canon, since Nestor Carbonell was the narrator (I believe) and D&C likely had a hand in the narration.

You're right, L4E. JJ hasn't got anything to do with LOST right now, which I just find odd. I mean I know he's got other projects, but to me that would be like having a baby and then leaving it with the sitter after his first birthday! LOL

: ) P

PJSander said...

One thing that this clips show DID remind me is that Evie really IS a good actress. She did a lot of crying tonight and it was completely believable.

Another thing that I remembered was how everyone thought Kate was dead. Remember the "zombie on Jack's bed" talk and the "no one else saw Kate on the plane except Jack" comment? LOL.

One day I will go back and read all the crazy things we wrote when we were trying to figure out this amazing, twisted, thought-provoking show!

: ) P

Jim in Georgia said...

Well, I'm embarrassed to have missed April Grace as having been Bea Klugh when I watched Fringe. She did not get a lot of screen time.

The "magic words" that the crash survivors on Hydra Island are in 2007 were good, if the information came from Bad Robot. There's been a huge argument about that on the LP; someone started the third major campaign earlier today.

I still laughed again when Hurley threw the hot pocket, that makes me laugh just thinking about it!

It was a little boring, but probably because viewers like us dissect everything and watch the episodes a million times so it wasn't much of anything new. It did make me remember things that I had forgotten though...and of course renewed questions that I had forgotten I had!

PJSander said...

I still laughed again when Hurley threw the hot pocket, that makes me laugh just thinking about it!And I still got goosebumps when Penny first sees Desmond in the raft!

There is a debate about this being canon, JiG? I would think Nestor Carbonell's voice as narrator would have put that baby to rest. I suppose it is POSSIBLE that D&C didn't have anything to do with it, but I seriously doubt it. (And you know, I am NEVER wrong! *tee hee*)

We also got confirmation that Widmore was the one who planted the 815 look alike and did so to keep anyone else from finding the island.

Thanks for clearing up who Ms. Klugh played on Fringe though. I wish she would have stuck around longer on LOST, I thought her character was super interesting.

KateTheGreat said...

Now I'm grumpy. Stupid recap episode! OK, done complaining.

I guess we did get some things laid to rest (if this is indeed cannon). I don't think anyone mentioned this, but it seemed like they also confirmed that Jack AND Kate learned that Claire and Jack were half-siblings. We haven't really had definitive evidence either way until now.

PJSander said...

About it being canon...won thing I noticed was that there was no "Bad Robot" credit at the end...don't know if that means anything...but I was waiting for it....

lost4ever said...

Thinking about the recap episode and the info confirmed for us. I think the info must go to the storyline for the "regular" viewers out there. Viewership may be way down but I can't imagine that they would throw off "regular" viewers with info like that.

Jim in Georgia said...

About 2008/2007:

I listed them that way because that's "the order in which they occurred(?)." For the first four seasons, we knew -- down tio excruciating detail -- what day it was. Season five has been vague about dates and it's driving some people crazy.

Me? Not so much. It's kinda like when Hurley said they travelled 3000 miles and people complained that there were no islands exactly 3000 miles from Sunda. RELAX! When the line at the bottom to the screen read 30 years earlier, my only point had been to beware precision. If one you fine folks is twenty-nine years, eleven months or thirty years, one month old and someone casually asked your age, you'd probably reply, "Thirty."

Hiring Nestor to read a script that D & C did not necessarily produce...

At least the clip shows are better than "Lost Untangled." Those things are horrible; they're trying to make my show cute!Soapbox available. *grin*

I still believe that Ellie and Charles were siblings, rather than bed-partners. Widmore may be Daniel’s uncle, which would make Charlotte his cousin.

To me, Mrs. Hawking doesn’t really seem the outsider. I really want the story that shows us how Charles and Ellie “became” Widmore and Mrs. Hawking. What happened to lead them to such different places?

: ) P

+++++++++++++++
Whether siblings or bed partners (I am going with bed partners), it makes sense that she and Widmore still maintain ‘contact’.

Widmore isn’t ‘allowed’ back on the island whether he finds it or not. I believe it to be true because he seems to have located it at least once and didn’t bother to go himself.

Ellie has been ‘making sure’ things that are supposed to happen get course corrected to ’save us all’. Widmore participated in that by helping Dez get his message to Ellie for Dan. It seems that Ellie, Ben and Charles are ALL making sure WHH so that the war can happen. It seems that the two sides think that if they get the ‘right’ people to the island, their side will win. It seems that the only thing they are not sure of is WHO will win this war.

Jim in Georgia said...

Three possibilities:

1. Widmore and Ellie are sibs. They are not on the Island because he was banished and she is on assignment.

2. Eloise is Ellie is Daniel's mother. She's been off the Island for a long time and Daniel had never known that she once lived there. He remembers what she looked like when he was a boy, hence his surprise when he saw her on the Island.

3. Widmore can come back to the Island, but he doesn't want to face Smokey.

8) Jim

Hammer said...

I like no. 3 Jim.

Although he said the island won't LET him back...that may be what he meant...Smokey will judge him and he knows that he won't get mercy....cause HE is the evil one!!

KateTheGreat said...

JiG and Hammer: Or he is too much of a wuss to be judged. After all, nobody knows what Smokey will do, and I was pretty surprised that Ben was spared. Perhaps the only thing stopping Charles from returning is fear. Same with Ben, but he actually made the trip.

PJSander said...

I vote for number 3 as well. Makes a whole lot of sense!

: ) P

KateTheGreat said...

JiG, you got me thinking about Smokey's judgments. Perhaps Ben didn't get spared after all. Maybe Smokey just hasn't punished him yet because he still has a role in whatever is coming next. Kind of like Michael not being allowed to die until the explosion on the freighter. I think the island still has plans for Ben, and once his duties have been performed he'll be expendable.

PJSander said...

I voted for number 3, but they all make sense to me, btw.

I like the idea of Smokey's judgment not being complete yet, KtG. Hmmm.

I'll try to be good, but there wasn't a whole lot to say in the Lost arena that was episode(?) specific.

The Podcast (Apr 23).

I did not think of "The Variable" as compared to "The Constant." I was thinking only about the Valenzetti Equation, which might still have something to do with it.

I was amazed at the apparent furor of Hurley's comment about Ewoks ("Ewok's suck.") in Star Wars (The Empire Strikes Back). Did it show up here? How come people think that every word a character says is of mystical significance or reflects the philosophy of the producers? I know. It's a rant.

TPTB hinted that they were pleasantly surprised how quickly the fan base figured out way back when that Miles is Chang's son.

I'm still waiting for D & C to answer my (and, kinda, DocH's) question about the use of the word SONAR rather than acoustic or sonic to describe the fence and the imaging deep in the Orchid. I even offered them an out. I asked, "Were the characters confused?" I don't think I should hold my breath. LOL.
