Follow the Leader

It will take quite a lot to live up to last week's episode, but with only three hours of original programming left in the season, it is possible.

Follow the Leader likely deals with Jack leading the LOSTies to safety and / or Locke fulfilling his destiny by leading the Others. However, in the interest of discovering some other possibility, here is what I found on online:

Follow the Leader is, of course, a children's activity game

Follow the Leader was the name of a number of films
~~ a comedy short filmed in 1901
~~ a comedy short filmed in 1928
~~ a romantic musical comedy filmed in 1930
~~ a musical short from 1951
~~ a film starring Barbara Jo Allen released in 1953
~~ a drama released in 2001

Follow the leader, a type of participation dance

Follow-the-leader, a drill used by marching bands

Follow the Leader was the name of a song and 1988 album by hip hop duo Eric B. & Rakim

Follow the Leader was the name of a 1998 album by rock band Korn

"Follow the Leader" was a song in the 1953 film Peter Pan

These are not much help, I'm thinking! LOL

I heard this one was supposed to be Richard-centric...I hope so, that could be quite enlightening!

Jim in Georgia said...

Okay, so Richard is going to reach down, lift Daniel in his arms, transform into Smokey, transport Daniel to the temple, revert to human form and take Daniel inside, where he will be revived. That's what happened with young Ben, we just didn't see it.

Sadly, I don't believe a word of it. 8(

Richard-centric? That's overdue.

Lindsay said...

Haha, I think that might create more questions than answer them!! Maybe not though...I hope it's true about the Richard-centric episode...I agree, it's long overdue!

lost4ever said...

Regarding your question on the last post Lins, I am with you on Jacob being a new character and suprisingly his name is Jacob.:)

On a side-note, where did you hear about this being Richard-centric? I hope that is not from a spoiler site. If it is Richard-centric, I guess that's another reference at the title "Follow the Leader".

MacGyver wins longest post ever.

Lindsay said...

L4E, I heard it on another LOST blog, they had the new post up for this week.

Circus Mom, yes, I think he does win. And wow, I have to say I really disagree with him!

Rita said...

PJ, great response to MacGyver - well said and I concur.

From the beginning we have been told "Jacob is the leader", "Jack is the leader", "Sawyer is the leader", "John is the leader", "Widmore is the leader", "Ben is the leader", and so on. Richard has never been declared the leader, the he seems to be the defacto leader nonetheless. We have ALWAYS wondered who the real "leader" is! I HOPE tonight we get some answers, or at least perspective, on that.

PJSander said...

The sad part is that there isn't a single point in MacGuyver's diatribe that I agree with. I would like to pick it apart line by line but I can't get past the irony of doing so! LOL.

Rita said...

Wow PJ, just read THE REST of your responses to MacGyver/Adapa 1. I want you to defend me if I ever need a lawyer. Very well thought out and articulate, (and without any arrogance or boasting which is common for him) and I wholeheartedly agree with you.

Don't watch the previews. I thought the 11 hour wait was going to be long. Then I watched. I don't know if I can make it. I need a LAA meeting and I should be working. Can't stay away.

PJSander said...

I accidentally saw about eight seconds of promo. I was watching an ABC show on TiVo and THOUGHT it was last week's episode with last week's promo, so I wasn't quick to FF through it. It was enough to make me wish I hadn't seen it! LOL

I feel your pain, CM.

My problem with Jacob being completely new to the show is that D & C said somewhere -- I hope my memory is right -- that they already knew who the actor was although the actor did not yet know. Doesn't that mean it has to be someone they already have a contractual hold on? They don't need to have their pick be in East Outback making a movie when it's time to shoot.

Hammer said...

BTW Lins and L4E, I'm not sure if Jacob is someone we've seen before. It would be cool if was Ray like PJ said...and yes, despite my critics...I still think it would be cool if Ray was Jacob...and I feel in my gut that Ray's story is not over (again like PJ). I don't want Jacob to be Locke or Jack or anyone like that...but related to one of the regular character would be cool, to me.

Rita said...

I'm with ya Hammer - it's RAY FOR JACOB! Yay!

Jim in Georgia said...

I was thinking that we have four candidates for "Leader:"
*Richard
*Sawyer
*Locke
*Ben
Then I remembered Ilana. Then I remembered Jack.

I just can't get over the idea that Ray has done his thing, but I bet we don't find out much before the final episode.

3:35± to go...

8) Jim

Rita said...

Just a thought JinG, about Ray. We only "met" him once, but if we were to go back through episodes, would we see him as an "unimportant extra in the background"? someone we did't pay any attention to before, but who was always there? I haven't had time to look, but I suspect that whoever Jacob is, I feel that we have "met" him before - somehow, somewhere. Even if they have to "photoshop" him in and re-show the footage (would they do that??!!)

PJSander said...

You remember them saying they knew who Jacob was, but the actor didn't? Maybe it is (wait for it)...

C H A R L I E !

Really, I am kidding, but I had to say it! LOL

: ) P

Lindsay said...

Rita, I think that's exactly what we're going to see with Jacob, and if it's someone we have already met or not, we will see that he has been there all along!

PJSander said...

If there *IS* a Jacob, and honestly I think there is (even though the emperor scenario is a possibility), I am betting it is not Ben, simply because it will be HIS face that shows the absolute SHOCK at the reveal. M

ichael Emerson's eyes alone perform better than half the working actors on television today. I want to see him do something with Meryl Streep and Susan Sarandon when LOST is done.

Jim in Georgia said...

Rita said...

Good question. Immediate answer is "No" because there are guys and gals over on the LP who I swear have every second of every episode memorized. I don't think these people sleep! *smile*

The nearest equivalent I can think of is Libby sitting in the rec room in "Dave." Ray could have been sitting in some room quietly watching. None of my theories have turned out right yet; why start now? LOL

Would they Photoshop him in? If they wanted to and thought they could get away with it or explain it away, absolutely.

8) Jim

PJSander said...

Even if they have to "photoshop" him in and re-show the footage (would they do that??!!)Is that a rhetorical question? LOL. We know they inserted Nikki and Paulo into opening crash scenes. They inserted Libby into a background scene at Santa Rosa. They also inserted people (and scenes?) when they replayed the time when Ben, Juliet, et al, watch O815 break up in the sky.

So, yes, they would! I like the idea that someone (perhaps Grampa Ray) has been in the background before.

Locke's gonna kill Jacob, eh? Guess then it won't MATTER who is Jacob - unless Locke RECOGNIZES Jacob, heh heh heh. Or, he finally figures out there IS no Jacob!

Great episode. Not as compelling as last week, but I didn't expect it could be.

: ) P

Hammer said...

OK, I need help thinking this thru...Locke wants to KILL JACOB??? Didn't Jacob ask for Locke's help? Are Hawking and Widmore on the same side (EVIL) trying to kill Jacob so they can go back?

Rita said...

I think he meant "kill Jacob" in the sense that he plans to show everyone that THERE IS NO JACOB! That's why he wanted everyone to go with. However, I think he will find that there really IS Jacob. Cant' wait to find out!!

PJSander said...

How cool was it that one of the FEW times that the LOSTies flashed and we DIDN'T know when it was, it was 2007!?

I so love this show!

Rita said...

It sure put a bit of a crimp in my opinion of RA - he seems to know a lot less about what is going on than I had given him credit for. He STILL doesn't age, and he DID "fix" Ben, but he is less "god-like" than he had appeared to be. He didn't really look happy to see John, that's for sure!

Hammer said...

Thing is...Jacob DOES exist. Locke heard him ask for help.

Hammer said...

Yeah, Rita. I fell for it too with RA. He only knew what to do because Locke told him to do it...but he's been doing what someone from the future tells him to do for VERY long time. :)

Rita said...

Well he heard something/someone. He hears "the island" - he said the "island" told him "when" he was (2007). He knows that Ben (and everyone else) has never SEEN Jacob. He wants to show everyone that there is NO JACOB, but there IS an ISLAND.

Hammer said...

I suppose Rita...but I am planting my flag in the 'there is a Jacob' camp.

Jim in Georgia said...

We can give up all hopes for Daniel, but I'm still confused about the Dharma booth video. In addition to Dan being dead, Lara and little Miles just got on the sub. There's no Lara left on the Island for Chang to yell at. Way back when -- as in last summer -- Hans Van Eeghen told us not to take the video out of context. Maybe many of us took it out of context.

Richard and Ben agree that Locke is troublesome(?). The next thing we know, Ben is assuring Locke of his loyal support. When did Ben ever tell anyone the truth?

This business with detonating the bomb is getting ridiculous. Is Jack gonna do it with a scalpel?

Kill Jacob? What does Locke know?

I'm not even gonna guess who's on whose side...

8) Jim

LOL Hammer, I agree! I said so a minute ago, I think he will find that there IS a Jacob, but at the moment, he THINKS there isn't. Just "the island" - which of course is really Jacob, just differently than they had thought. The difference is, that John REALLY IS in tune with "him",as "the island", and the others only pretend to be, IMO.

Rita said...

Well, gotta work early, so goodnight everyone! Happy blogging and see you in the morning. :)

Jim, I still think Dan gets another chance through TT or something to make that video. He's only dead 'now', the past time travelling Dan still exits...somewhere.

Well, I am just completely Lost after this episode. I've kept thinking that several of them really know what's going on (RA, Eloise, Ben, etc), but now it seems that nobody knows anything! Faraday was a physicist at Oxford in 1996. Even without a doctorate (which I believe he has) and even if he were Doogie Howser, I am not sure he could have finished high school and six years of college by age nineteen, so he would have to have been born before 1977.

PERHAPS (and NOT saying I think this) Locke knows Ben never has seen Jacob, because HE (Locke) is Jacob (and it seems that Ben might have noticed that if he'd seen him :). I still don't think he meant to literally KILL Jacob, just their present IDEA of him - to replace it with the TRUTH. I believe there is a Jacob, but he will be different than what the Others are expecting - he is the "island" *cue spooky music*

Daniel DID mention to his mother that he was the youngest to have ever received a doctorate from Oxford, and he WAS clearly a protege. I don't know if even HE could have done it by 19, but I suppose it might be possible.

Well it looked to me, when Ellie was getting ready to leave to show Jack and Kate the bomb and she was talking to Charles, he seemed worried about her and the way they were standing made it look like she was pregnant then. Of course, that would only make him 30 in 2007, but I suppose if he's such a genius it could work?

I thought it was nice that we learned that she did remember him from the 1954. And we learned that Miles saw his dad making him mom leave with him and he finally understood why. Great episode!

PJSander said...

I wonder how that plays into things since it was 2007 when Eloise puts the LOSTies on A316 and tells Penny she doesn't know what's going to happen any more. I felt like she knew only what was in Faraday's journal. Maybe not.

Richard knows that for Jack et. al. relative to the Island 1977 comes after 2004; he didn't say they died in 1977.

Lindsay said...

Hammer, the only thing I can think of is that Richard saw that they were in the DI and he knew the purge happened in 92 so he assumed that they died in that, which he did watch, he was there taking off his gas mask with Ben.

But the way he said it and within the context of last night's show, it seemed like their possible deaths would have something to do with the H bomb and the Swan incident.

Richard did seem very confused last night, it got on my nerves. I always thought he was "all-knowing", but not so much last night!

Jim in Georgia said...

In 1977:

In the evening (after dark but not after bedtime) of day 1, Pierre Chang gets a phone call that the sub is arriving. Miles drives Chang to the dock. Miles sees and talks to Daniel. In the background, Chang can be heard saying that everyone should get a good night of sleep. Daniel tells Miles he needs to see Jack right away.

In the morning (daylight) of day 2, Daniel and Miles arrive at Jack's quarters, Daniel talks with Jack and Daniel and Miles take off to the Orchid to meet with Chang. Jack goes to tell Sawyer about Daniel's return; when Sawyer says he's a little busy, Jack asks what he could be busy with at six o'clock in the morning.

Questions:

1) How late was it at the dock before Daniel got ashore?

2) Depending, why did it take so long for Miles and Daniel to get to Jack's quarters?

Does anyone else get the horrible feeling...

Yes, we'll probably begin to get depressed before bedtime on Wednesday.

D & C tell us in the most recent podcast (leaked) that after "The Incident" or, at the latest, the first episode of next season that we'll know everything we need to know to figure it all out.

Time will tell.

Leaked? Where did you find it, JiG?

: ) P

Lindsay said...

JiG, was that the same interview where they talked about Libby's story? I don't want to say much more if it's not...

Hammer said...

Actually Damon said that we have enough info to 'theorize' how it will end...Carlton said that at the END of season six we will have enough info....typical D & C banter. LOL

PJSander said...

WHERE are you finding the podcast? It is not up at ABC.com - at least not that I can find!

: ) P

Hammer said...

Ummmmm....darkufo has it....

PJSander said...

I can't find it. Poop.

Hammer said...

They explain the comic con video with Chang...not really spoilerish, but put it to bed...

Jim in Georgia said...

The Podcast:

I haven't looked on ABC. DocArtz has it. There's a link off the LP main page.

Good point, Hammer. D & C say we will have all the building blocks we need on Wednesday or maybe next January. As for the end of Season Six, if we can't figure it out by then, I guess we have to read the book. There has to be a book coming, right?

I thought the little chat about the Comic Con '08 video was a not very successful attempt to gloss over the fact that Jeremy Davies got himself fired (IMHO) for saying things like (paraphrased) "I had some ideas where to take my character but they got reckless." I suppose an actor ought to remember who signs the checks.

PJSander said...

THANK YOU, JIM! I finally found it! Whoo hoo!

Now I have to carve out 25 minutes to listen to it! LOL

: ) P

PJSander said...

Given how little I trust ANYTHING they say, I don't know HOW I feel about that podcast. Glad I finally got to hear it, but it hasn't really changed anything for me because I am just too suspicious oft D&C! LOL

: ) P

Hammer said...

I agree PJ...that's why I don't consider the podcast spoilers...just entertaining because it from D & C's mouth.

Jim in Georgia said...

Either Damon or Carlton did comment that for them only the show was canon. That means that all the items on the LP and every other site that list a podcast as authority are...

My head hurts! LOL

PJSander said...

D&C saying that, to me, felt like a bit of a cop out, and honestly, as if they had planned their responses in expectation of a big surprise. Maybe it is just because I am so suspicious of everything...

: ) P

Jim in Georgia said...

Yea, verily, PJ.

They commented early in the show that when someone is dead on Lost, he's dead. Enter John Locke (the resurrected?), stage left.

Before I started at the LP late last season, I had never heard of a podcast. Sometime I wish I still hadn't.

Matthew Fox is on Ellen tomorrow...I heard that he had said in an interview that he's the only cast member that knows how the show is going to end...

PJSander said...

LOL. I discovered podcasts late last season myself. Listening to all the archived ones help get me through the hiatus!

: ) P

PJSander said...

Oh but thanks for the heads up on Ellen. I will go TiVo it!

Lindsay said...

and for anyone on facebook, they have an Addicted to LOST trivia game that is really quite addicting!

PJSander said...

Speaking of Facebook... I just created a TLI there. Anyone who would like to join, please do. I figure that we'll still do all our posting there, but that will be another way to communicate and a back-up to TLI (which was a back up to TBI) LOL.

Jim in Georgia said...

TLIonFB?

Did I get that wrong?

That's right, Jim. Did the link not work for you? LINS was able to join. I have to approve you though, it isn't an "open" group.

Oh heaven's no, we haven't MOVED TLI to facebook! That's just one more place to gather. Fear not, TLI will remain here.

Come out from behind your shroud, anonymous!

I just created a new Facebook not long ago...my old one had too many people. So I am going to try to add it. Also there is a trivia game on myspace. I have played it so much...I forgot my score but have continued playing it for over a year now so it should be pretty high:)

Jim in Georgia said...

Facebook:

It didn't work last night and it didn't work ten minutres ago, but it worked five minutes ago.

I'm waiting to be approved, thank you.

I am not sure if it worked...

I went to King Tut BTW and got my picture with the Anubis statue which had actually been moved to the airport. I guess to lure people in. It's a really nice statue to see right when you are about to get on a plane.(saying with sarcasm)

Anyways, have to say that it was really expensive and I was really upset that you couldnt take pictures or have your cell phone on. Guess I should have taken a notebook! SOme guy was texting someone and the gaurds were all over his phone. Plus I had two young kids with me and it was packed. I think I waited in line for an hour just to get in. They were letting a couple of hundred people in every 30 minutes.

It was the most awesome exhibit I had ever been to though and in a couple of years when it comes out again, I recommend it to anyone, if you don't mind the crowds. Oh and don't waste money on taking the kids because too many older people were very intrigued and just pushed the kids out of the way..lol.

PJSander said...

JiG and Tasha, you have both been approved!

If there is anyone here whose "real" name I don't know (L4E, flgrl, ESB, the Kates), if you want to join the fb group, you probably want to put a message in the box when you want to be approved.

Jim in Georgia said...

Thank you.

That picture I use here is old (Duh) and it looks okay in a thumbnail. On FB it looks like I have some horrible disease.

BTW, I joined FB last night. I'd said I would probably never do that.

Well then, welcome to the wonderful, procrastination-inducing world of Facebook, Jim!

I know of several people who say they won't do it, but haven't found anyone whose reasons make sense! LOL

As we get ready for tomorrow evening -- so far away and so near -- I was thinking about Radzinsky and the who's in charge question.

Back when they were voting on what to do with Sayid, it was Radzinsky who brought up the subject of Ann Arbor's supremacy.

Mr. R is clearly in a supervisory position: Construction Manager (not foreman)? Chang is the "Director of Scientific Research and Application" and Goodspeed is the "Director of Administration." Some organizations thrive, they think, on not having a clear chain of command.

Was Radzinsky taking the bull by the horns and hoping he'd get away with what he pulled by usurping Horace. Did he call "Ann Arbor" and clear his actions in advance with his "angel" in Michigan by painting a less than favorable portrait of Horace? And of Chang?

How powerful is this angel in Ann Arbor? (I just realized how nicely alliterative that is.) Who is he?

What did Chang say to convince Radzinsky to get the women and children off the Island?

No answers, only questions.

Did he call his Angel in Ann Arbor and clear his Actions in Advance? I wish we had the Answer?!

Who is the Angel in Ann Arbor? Aaron?

LOL.

Seriously, though. Great questions.

I am one of those who says 'never' to face book...good reason?...spend all my web time on LOST.

My wife is thinking of starting one for her and I, if she does...I'll hook up with ya'll.

PJSander said...

That's fine, Hammer, but Facebook is not really something you do "together" - you really have to each have your own profiles. You can show that you're married and all, but it is much easier if you have your own.

It isn't hard, and it doesn't have to be time-consuming. Besides, in another week or two, your LOST time will start drying up! LOL

My husband has a facebook account, and I use his. I always sign my own name and my friends don't mind. I have been resisting getting my own. Can I join up with the rest of you through his account? Please? :)

I am curious why you are so adamant against it, DocH? I have a friend who is dead set against it and all her ideas about how it works and stuff were false. She still won't get one, but she says it is because she has too many secrets! LOL

PJSander said...

Of course, Rita! I will take any Tillie, any way they want to show up! LOL

Yay PJ, I'm in! This will be fun.

I am glad it was you, Rita! When I saw the name, I thought, "Who the heck is THAT?" Then I saw the location and remembered you saying you were from that town. LOL

PJ, you have a good memory! LOL, so when you see my husband's name, that's me!
