Fifteen Days Out
If we were on the island...

We're now on day fifteen of the exile from regular episodes of LOST. If we were REALLY on the island, here's what would have happened in the last five days:

After Sayid tortured Sawyer (all for naught, since he didn't have Shannon's inhalers after all), he left. He told us he was going to map the island, but I really think he just couldn't face us after such cruelty. When he returned, he told us he met up with the French woman, Danielle Rousseau - the one that left the SOS message sixteen years ago! It sounds like the woman is so far out in left field, she's selling hot dogs. Actually, Sayid's not exactly in the ball park either... he said he heard whispers in the jungle!

He stole some weird maps from Rousseau's shelter before he escaped. They are all in French, so he's enlisted Shannon to help translate. I don't know how much work they're getting done, though. They're kind of flirting. He's been out in the jungle checking out the maps and can't seem to make sense of them. Locke gave him a compass, but I overheard him say that the compass doesn't work. He said a minor magnetic anomaly might explain a variance of two or three degrees, but it looked like the compass was off by about 40°!

Hurley, the big guy with a great sense of humor, started taking a census, to take note of everyone that was on the plane. He's funny, that guy, really down to earth.

There's been a VERY strange turn of the tides. Everything is getting washed out to sea. This can't be normal. The tide shifting so suddenly, rising in so short a time. We've had to move camp further up the beach. Things are just plain ODD on this island.

Then something AWFUL happened! Claire and Charlie were kidnapped by this guy Ethan, whom Hurley determined was NOT ON THE PLANE! Locke, Boone, Jack and Kate went looking for them and eventually Kate and Jack found Charlie had been hanged in a tree. He was DEAD. Jack somehow managed to save him, but I don't know how. He's been very quiet. Claire is still missing and we are all afraid of what is out there.

Still, Locke and Boone are gone all day, from sunrise to sundown. They say they are hunting boar, but they never come back with any. That John Locke is an intense guy, but everyone seems to trust him.

There's never a dull day on this island. We'll see what happens in the next few days!

Hey PJ, I know how much you like these Sawer nicknames, I just watched ep5, he called Sayid "Captain Falafel"! I thought that was pretty funny

Okay, so I just finished watching Episodes 14 and 15 of Season one. I have NEVER SEEN THEM BEFORE! Oh mylanta!

There have always been times when someone has mentioned something that happened that I just don't remember. Well in the case of "the polar bear that attacked Walt," for example, it is because I never SAW that episode!

I had seen some of the scenes, in "previously on..." clips, but never seen the whole episodes. That may well be the case for some episodes in Seasons two and three (before TiVo).

And yeah, CAG, Captain Falafel is one of my favorites, too.

Do you think when Sawyer and Juliet meet up with Alpert, he'll call him Captain Eyeliner!?

LOL

Happy Father's Day PJ, Hammer, and all the other Dads. Though I have limited knowledge of any of y'all, I know that you are both involved Dads from little bits that have appeared here and there in your posts. ....coaching, reading Harry Potter, etc..... I think that if I can glean your committment to your kids from LOST postings you're probably really terrific in real life. Hope you enjoyed your special day!

I read the Fallon Theory over on the Big Island. Interesting. Despite my celtic background, the author's name, Aonghus Fallon, bugged me. I may be thinking too hard once again, but it is an anagram for: Loon fan laughs. Probably a coincidence......

Thanks miss kim. If you got to know me, you would like me. JK, almost got that out with a straight face.

Thanks for the kind words.

Keep up the good fight PJ!

I HAVE to be on the other side of the fence 'cause I am using dead Charlie as part of my "shhhh" theory. :)

I tried my theory out on a couple I know who watches, but doesn't obsess about, LOST. They both agreed it IS a possibility! We'll see!

PJ: Do you have specific theory about Charlie being alive? Or do you just hope that he is? Because when he visits Hurley this season doesn't he actually say "i AM dead, but I'm here"...just curious...;)

Circus Mom said...

OK, so I think Charlie is dead but here is a theory that says otherwise.

If there are multiple timelines could future Charlie from Timeline A be visiting Hurley in Timeline B after Charlie died in Timeline B. Perhaps you are stuck in your own timeline untill you are dead somewhere. Then a version of the alive you can visit the other timelines where you have died. You become a ghost or a whisperer in that timeline.

PJSander said...

Oh ESB, I have been waiting for someone to ask *G*.

I have explained my theory in dribs and drabs on the big island, but recognize that some of the others are getting tired of my cries that Charlie is alive! LOL

a) the porthole in the section of the Looking Glass hatch that Charlie locked himself into was definitely the right size for him to swim through.

b) even though he "gave up" and floated, as if dead, to the surface of the water, he would have FOUND AIR up there! If you have a closed container underwater and put a hole in it, that container will ONLY fill to the top of the hole. So unless the hole is at the TOP of the container, it will not completely fill with water, leaving a pocket of air at the top. Certainly enough to allow one to catch one's breath, swim through the porthole and to the surface.

c) Charlie has a proven lung capacity, (despite saying in season one that he can't swim! LOL) in that he was able to swim DOWN to the LGH, which is certainly very tiring. Swimming UP to the surface would definitely take less effort.

d) When he says to Hurley, "I am dead, but I am here," I think he is saying that he is dead to the world at large, because he was presumed dead IN THE CRASH! He probably also worries that Hurley will reveal the truth to someone (Widmore?) he shouldn't, so plays INTO Hurley's perceived mental illness.

The weird thing is that I didn't particularly LIKE the character of Charlie, nor do I have an emotional attachment to Dominic Monaghan (I haven't see TLoTR, so I don't know him outside of LOST). Not sure why I have such an investment in Charlie's survival, but I am committed to this theory of mine! LOL.

So, you may be sorry you asked, but there it is!

PJ, you forgot your explaination of how Charlie disappeared at the hospital when Hugo wished him away....I think you said, he hid behind the big tree?

Exhibits "A" through "D" in the "Charlie is alive" theory:

Exhibits "A" & "B" - the porthole is "Charlie-sized"

and

Exhibit "C" - the "science" behind the air bubble:

Exhibit "D" (yes, Hammer) the tree that Charlie hid behind while Hurley was counting...

I know that my theory of Charlie being alive conflicts with your theory of his being a whisper, (or whisperer,) and even though I think he should have been SHOWN to be alive in the finale to make it realistic, I still hold out a small glimmer of hope *G*.

: ) P

Hammer said...

I really think that the timeline theory that was brought up will explain how Charlie is "alive" AND the whisperers. So I guess I think Charlie is "sort of" alive, but not because he survived the drowning.

ESB said...

Okay PJ...in my opinion, your logic is pretty sound (except the hiding behind a big tree part (haha!) i mean, one of the other patients DID see him...so while i don't think Charlie is still alive, i can pick up what you're putting down...;) whatcha gotta do now is research what Dominic Monaghan is up to these days...is he involved in any projects? if so, what, when and where? has he said anything publicly about LOST lately?
i DO think we'll see him quite a bit on the show again...unfortunately tho, only as ghost/vision/whatever...
i was never super attached to his character either, but i would really like to see what happens to the DS ring and if Claire (dead/not dead?) ever gets his greatest hits list...

DM *is* working, but not on anything that would prevent his return - I did look! LOL

He is signed to Beak / Barnell Borhusk in the X-Men Origins movie, which will be filming in New Zealand and Australia.

Neither he, nor Daniel Dae Kim, nor Emilie deRavin have done any notable press (unlike Harrold Perrineau, who seems to have sealed his fate with his remarks), so I suspect that they will all be back to do some work before the series is complete. I hope so, anyway.

: ) P

ESB said...

haha, i should've known you had already checked to see what DM (is that Depeche Mode or Danger Mouse? nevermind...;) was up to these days...good on you!

and yeah, considering all my 'Jin is Alive' posts, i have been relieved to not see Daniel Dae talking about anything in the press...usually pretty good sign they're still on the show, eh? ;)

True enough. Maybe, if Jin *is* dead (and I don't really think he is), he will speak English when he whispers! LOL.

What do you think, Hammer?

: ) P

Hammer said...

LOL, yeah he'll whisper in English unless he's talking to Halliwax or Candle...

Circus Mom said...

Hammer, if the timeline theory works for Charlie being alive then how does Jack and Hurley et al going back to the island correct or change things? I havn't gotten that far in my thinking yet.

Hammer said...

My line of thinking is that Jack and Hurley have to go back because they are supposed to be there (destiny). The reason they were able to leave is because the "rules" were changed.

Charlie is dead because he is supposed to be dead (destiny). But timelines are overlapping or something to that effect. It seems once you die, you then know what is supposed to happen and you try to get the living to do what they were supposed to do (ask them to change their free will).

So...I guess to answer you question, Jack and Hugo have to go back and do whatever it is that destiny wanted in the first place.

Hammer said...

BTW, I have said in the past, as have others, that it is VERY possible that Hugo isn't crazy, he's special. He sees dead people because he can see them in their dimsension (for lack of a better term). Hugo may have to go back because he is special. Jack may have to go back because he is "Adam" or he is supposed to protect his nephew Aaron (who is Adam) on the island?

I got an email from Octagon Global Recruiting this morning! Of course, it doesn't say anything other than a rehash of the website. I am guessing that "someone" won a trip to Comic-Con or something. Oddly, they spell DHARMA out in lowercase letters. Who knows?

: ) P

From the email: Octagon Global Recruiting, on behalf of the Dharma Initiative, would like to thank you for registering your expression of interest in our latest volunteer recruitment drive.

We will be launching in San Diego on July 24th at Comic-Con International offering select registrants the opportunity to take an exciting aptitude test that will give applicants the chance to demonstrate their unique talents.

The Dharma Initiative hopes you will be able to join us to find out more about their ground-breaking new research project. We will contact you closer to the date with more information.

For those not able to join us in San Diego, Dharma's full recruitment program will be made available online to registered recruits after July 27th.

In the meantime, the Dharma Initiative urges you to spread the word. Invite your colleagues to join the team at www.octagonglobalrecruiting.com and take part in this once in a lifetime opportunity.

I have had some SERIOUS LOST withdrawal this week. With family visiting, I haven't been able to watch LOST at all. I managed to sneak in the second half of an episode with commentary, but otherwise I have had to do some deep breathing to get me through the late hours - especially on Wednesday and Thursday evenings. I still think of Wednesday as LOST day!
