The Lighthouse
Hmmm. The Lighthouse. Not sure what to think on this one. If season six continues to follow the season one pattern with episodes, then this should be a Jack centric episode (to go along with "White Rabbit"). Or could this be more literal - a lighthouse, a light weight house, a house filled with light? As usual, I am just LOST.

I'll guess the lighthouse is the temple...using Doc's "this way to safe harbor" idea.

I like that one. Over on the LP, renamed "Lighthouse" to "Lighthouse (Episode)" to reduce the confusion over... Well, there must have been as good reason. *sigh*

Duke!! What a guy, eh?
I also thought about it in two different ways, like Doc said, as a warning, look out, too close, etc., and also as a beacon of light or hope to the lost (no pun intended). It's an interesting title, so hopefully it will make for a good episode!
We're serving crispy ranch chicken at our house tonight and settling in to watch LOST and the snow outside! Can you believe it's snowing in South Central TX!!
Crazy Lins, we just got another 8-9 inches of wet heavy snow yesterday. Way too heavy to shovel. Cranked out the snow blower for by the house and got the neighbors front end loader to get the drive.
Dinner? Whatever I can get my hands on!
Made me think of the Lamp post.
Me too. I think the Lighthouse is another place on the island we haven't seen yet. Maybe it is the way for Jacob too get off the island or summon people to it?
Dinner for me was a 5...5...5 dollar footlong.
Wow. TBI natives are restless. Maybe it is because there isn't a new post up yet, but there is some serious nastiness spewing. LOL
: ) P
@PJ re: TBI - yet another reason for me to avoid it this year. :)
As for the lighthouse, the first thing I thought of was the 4TS - it has always reminded me of a lighthouse - it always seemed to me that it should be one, right at the water's edge, and about the size of the one's I'm used to seeing, and complete with living quarters inside - everything about it except that it is, in fact, a 4TS. Yes, it would be a strange one, but to me it has always screamed "LIGHTHOUSE". We'll see!

They're all going to go to that church where Eloise is still minding the store. She and Desmond will be having tea and Des will look at Jack and say, "It's about time ya figured it out, brother."
Then again, maybe not
8) Jim
I get to watch in real time tonight but I am still hours behind the rest of you.
At least I no longer have to bear the snow in Chicago.
I guess the snow moved to upstate NY. I'm expecting a foot to a foot and a half....and some more Thursday and Friday. Sigh. I also thought of the FTS for all of the same reasons as you Rita. Interesting that Flocke calls Sawyer "James" just like real Locke did/does/whatever!
Whoo hoo! It is awesome already! Hurley's in charge!
: ) P
TBI prediction. Jack's son = jumping the shark.
Either Widmore or Des in on the way.
Either Widmore or Des in on the way
Was thinking the same thing or maybe Eloise.
Damn!! I wanted to see who is 108!
Gees, Jack. Why'd you go have to mess it all up!?
: ) P
Perhaps Jack had to go so he would break the mirror.....
Perhaps Jack had to go so he would break the mirror.....
Good point.
Dogen at the piano auditions!? Yikes.
: ) P
If Jack was supposed to break the mirror with the numbers then maybe the names were written by MIB in the cave...not by Jacob....
This show is strange....
maybe the names were written by MIB in the cave...not by Jacob....
that's what i think
Dogen to Jack "your son has a gift"...hmm...another *special* child?
Hurley sounded a lot like Richard tonight - "it doesn't work like that", "he just shows up"...maybe he is really in charge now?
Looks like Jin has a date with Smokie...Sun reunion not likely...
I feel like I want to watch it all over again RIGHT now. Too much to process, but as dh said, what answers did we get tonight?
When Jack talked about Claire, I thought that put CM's theory of the adjusted timeline getting them back on the island again, but I realize that Jack would have still found out about Claire from the will.
: ) P
This show is strange....
And disapointing at times. I guess I was spoiled by how great last week's episode was.
I loved this week's episode. Maybe it is because I have a soft spot for Hurley and Jack has his sh*z together in the adjusted reality.
: ) P
I like every episode because every episode tells more of the story.
So Claire has been chillin in the jungle this whole time obsessing over her lost baby (was it just me, or did she look surprised when Jin said that Aaron was three years old?)
Her dad and her "friend" told her that the templetons have her baby, right? She really reminded me of Rousseau in this episode, almost exactly like when she captured Sayid.
Jacob has Jack on the island for a specific purpose and only Jack can figure out what that is, and part of it involved seeing the house he grew up in (that part was really confusing).
I agree that the cave must have been MIB's and Jacob uses the lighthouse...really bummed we couldn't find out who 108 was, but I'm guessing Desmond.
Loved the beginning with Jack and the scar though!
Jack has his sh*z together in the adjusted reality
Does he? He sees his son once a month and didn't know how long he had been playing the piano. I thought it was weird that he didn't remember the scar or apparently watching younger David practicing the piano. The Dogen appearance is bothering me now.
Is someone really coming to the Island? Jacob's not upset that the light is not burning and the mirrors are not there to reflect (intensify) it even if it was. I thought the little fire pit was very reminiscent of the fire pit where Jacob burned.
If "Claire's friend" just showed up at her camp, why doesn't he have Sawyer with him?
8) Jim

Well Jack isn't a pill popping raging alcholic!
I feel like maybe he didn't KNOW he had a son until the child was older.
I also feel as if the scar discussion was put there ONLY to answer our potential questions about it.

I wondered that as well.

But WAS he? Mom seemed very pleased that he didn't take a drink. Was alcohol the reason he's separated/divorced?
8) Jim
I am thinking that every time we have seen Jacob since Ben stabbed him and he burned... we are actually seeing MIB
I was thinking that too until Ilana put that to bed last week.
Was alcohol the reason he's separated/divorced?
Juliet as a possible ex?

Jack told him that he used to read to him when he was little - when David wasn't listening (head phones), so he at least USED to be a part of his young life. Also, David told him that he used to listen every time he practiced, and was "really into it".
A little off current subject, but a recent post on LP has it that the cabin or something in it made it possible for Smoke to shapechange.
Something to think about until we see Ilana again.
8) Jim
I am thinking that every time we have seen Jacob since Ben stabbed him and he burned.
Dogen didn't see Jacob when Hurley did. That could fit with him being really Jacob.
: ) P
Sawyer is either tagging along and we just didn't see him yet...or...he's on a mission that Flocke gave him to do.
...he's on a mission that Flocke gave him to do
RightT, his FSW. What episode will that be if this Season mirrors Season 1? 8?
So, she may not have all of the facts that we think she does. Or at least wasn't aware that a "loophole" had been accomplished.
Agreed, but for now I am going to take her word for it, until we are given more info on the subject. I just feel the show comes down to dark vs. light, good vs. evil, etc. First it was Jack vs Locke, Ben vs. Widmore, and now Jacob vs. MIB. I would be disappointed if that changes.
Damn!! I wanted to see who is 108!
As Tasha posted on TBI, it is Wallace. I can read it right now. Austen is 51 and Rousseau was 20. The image Jack first saw in the mirror was when Hurley went past 51.
Thanks L4E, so is Wallace insignificant or a new mystery.
I think Hugo all but confirmed that Rose and Bernard are Adam and Eve. Dinosaur days? No...but I think that was hint that the '70s was long enough ago for the skeletons to be "us". Dang....I wanted it to be Des and Penny.
Kimmel said LOST is the Jagermeister of TV...you have fun, but a couple hours later you don't know what happened. LOL
Doc, that would be nuts. Seems plausible.
Bed time for Bonzo:
Is Wallace the blonde boy MIB is freaking out about?
From the Ack Attack mini recap:
Jack’s son was playing Chopin (Fantastie Impromptu, to be exact) – this was what Faraday played as a kid before Eloise told him he had to stop. Could Daniel be David’s piano teacher in this Sideways world?
: ) P
The name Wallace appears to be crossed out but number 112 Horton does not.
Even though Wallace is crossed out it could still be RBB (running blonde boy). Linus is crossed out, but is still alive and on the island….
Could Wallace be Libby? (Yes, I know she is dead in the original timeline.) Olivia? What other characters are there whose last names we do not know?
I like the idea of it being RBB (or BBB for Bloody Blond Boy), but then again, I DON'T like it because at this point, I think they already have enough characters to work with and should NOT be introducing any more!
I can live with Jacob being a string puller because we have heard about him from early on. I can almost accept MIB because he is the yang to Jacob's yin. But to make an until-now unknown character the central, pivotal role in this myth will NOT sit well with me.
: ) P
PJ, that's kind of why I think Wallace is RBB, if it's Libby et al, because then they would be giving us TWO new ones. If Wallace isn't RBB, RBB better be someone we already know about too...right?
...if it's NOT Libby et al...
Other funny lines:
Jacob: You have ink on your forehead.
Hugo: I could eat.
Hugo: Do you know if there's like a kitchen in this place?
awesome ep...i need a rewatch!
i think the appendix scar was shown to us right away because it is an indicator that things in this sideways universe have been different all along; not just since flight 815. what that means, i dunno. maybe that this 2004 is a repeat? or a prepeat?
i too thought of juliet as a possible mother to david. mainly because jack had to be in his early 20s when david was born, so i was thinking med school.
i do think that jack was supposed to bust the mirror, but i'm not sure why yet. i mean...it's not like the lighthouse was in use, and jacob even said that the visitor would find another way.
Rita: Jack told him that he used to read to him when he was little - when David wasn't listening (head phones), so he at least USED to be a part of his young life. Also, David told him that he used to listen every time he practiced, and was "really into it".
Right. Okay, so Jack was aware of his son from a young age.
But that reminds me of something... WHAT teenager (in his right mind) would be reading The Annotated Alice? I suppose it COULD be for a school report or something, but a *normal* teenager would have SAID that!

Claire said that her dad (who was probably the MiB) said that the Others took Aaron. But did MiB say the "Others" or "others?" It gets into MiB/Christian's frame of reference. I've argued long (and uselessly) that "The Others" is not the proper name of any group living on the Island. So, if we de-capitalize "Others," then "others" could refer to the people who left the Island.
8) Jim
I would think MIB was clear to Claire which others he was talking about. She made reference to her friend, who she likely saw often she's been giving those folks trouble for 3 years trying to find Aaron. She's infected and being mislead for MIB's benefit.
Any chance Wallace is MIB?
The summaries on my on-air TV Guide are often close to worthless, but I can see 14 days out. Last night, after that amazingly vague trailer, I looked at Mar 2 and Mar 9. All they had was the titles and some comment about "This enigmatic series..." Are they not even releasing summaries to the Guide?

From the LP:
If the first reflection in the lighthouse mirror is of the temple where Jin and Sun got married and the second is of the church where Sawyer's parents' funeral was held, then why wouldn't the reflection for Shephard be the hospital where Jacob met Jack after the candy machine malfunctioned?
8) Jim

Maybe because the Shepherd on the lighthouse is GrandDad Ray?
: ) P
Because it's not about where they were touched, but how long they have been watched/manipulated(according to MIB). It would have been nice to see what the Kate, Ford, Reyes, Locke reflections looked like.
PJSander said...

Oh, my! Nice catch, PJ.
The guy who posted the lead-in (which I didn't copy) was suggesting that Shephard meant Christian. But Christian is dead, while Ray, last we saw him, was alive and had been caught trying to "go somewhere."
8) Jim
She made reference to her friend, who she likely saw often
You would think so but how? Locke's corpse just recently arrived on the island and wouldn't she know that Jin knew John?
the first reflection in the lighthouse mirror is of the temple where Jin and Sun got married and the second is of the church where Sawyer's parents' funeral was held
That could be. When turning the wheel the numbers appeared to be going down. Kwon 42 then Sawyer 15, but wouldn't Sheperd's image appear in between those 2?
Nah, Though I've said that the Ray's story isn't finished, Jack said he's been watching ME=writers telling us that's what happened. IMO
L4E, she know that Locke ain't Locke, so ANY form he shows up in is cool with her because she's 'infected'.
@ reflections...you are correct, but TV editing?
That could be. When turning the wheel the numbers appeared to be going down. Kwon 42 then Sawyer 15, but wouldn't Sheperd's image appear in between those 2?
well, he did tell hugo to go back; maybe he saw it pass (and we couldn't see it because we saw jack's face)?
well, he did tell hugo to go back; maybe he saw it pass
No he just said "turn it to 23 degrees."
Hammer, are you suggesting that Claire knows MIB has different forms or that Claire didn't see him as Locke last night?
I figured different forms...but either way.
I'm getting a little frustrated with new comers on TBI telling us that the numbers add up to 108. I guess my patience is just getting too thin in the last season.
um, HOW creepy was the cradle creature! was that a vincent skull?

LOL...just tell them thank you for pointing out something we learned in Season 1.:)
Looks like a wild pig skull with the upper teeth pulled or lost.
HOW creepy was the cradle creature! was that a vincent skull
Not too familiar with skulls but that also looks like it could be a boar, like the Lord of The Flies
L4E, I would like too! But I already have a target on my back and don't want to be the cause of restlessness over there.

I think she was seeing him as whatever his true form is, not Locke though.
That cradle creature was very disturbing, and was it just me, or did she seemed surprised when Jin told her that Aaron was three years old?
Life without a calendar, after a lenght of time, one would be surprised no matter what the answer.
That cradle creature was very disturbing, and was it just me, or did she seemed surprised when Jin told her that Aaron was three years old?
She did seem surprised, but I think Rousseau didn't always remember that Alex was growing up without her.
: ) P
Claire, Richard and Sawyer know it isn't Locke. Ben and Frank thought is was Locke. Ben and Frank arn't candidates. Ben's father is likely the Linus we saw on the wheele. My bet is Jack, Hurley, Sayid and perhaps Kate will know it's not Locke when they see him. Jin, of course messes with this unless Ji Yeong is the candidate.
I think she was seeing him as whatever his true form is, not Locke though.
I wonder if Claire has ever seen her "friend" and her "father" at the same time?
I guess if she can "see through" Flocke to the "real" MiB, then does that mean that Christian was NOT MiB?
Hmmm.
: ) P
i'm sorry, but as a woman, you know EXACLTY when it's been a month ;-)
i'm sure she could keep track.
i still think it would be easier for me to grasp some of this stuff if we knew that the statue people had traveled in time [too] when the bomb went off. but i don't think that they did. (right?! :-) )
PJ, Circus Dork and her circus/theatre friends would probably read the annotated Alice. We did two circus shows with the Alice theme. I aqctually think we were shown that book for the Looking Glass reference. Jack seeing his old life on the other side of the mirror. That could be how Jacob traveled to see and touch them when they were young. Breaking the mirrors could have closed a door to the island.
That was me.
Symantics...but anyhoo...
I doubt counting periods is a priority for Coo-Coo Claire.
Not every woman's are regular.
If Claire died to become infected (I admit we don't know yet), do zombies have periods?

I was thinking that too at first, but dismissed it as David not wanting to give ANY more info than he had to (kind of a "none of your business" response) - until it was revealed later how much David had wanted a relationship with his dad. NOW I think David was reading it BECAUSE his dad used to read it to him. A way to connect to the dad he could still relate to.

Not really your point, Jim, but I was thinking while I read this, that he told her that the O/others took Aaron in order to get Claire to GO there - to the Temple - in order to get in himself (with/in her).

I think Claire deliberately NOT naming her friend tells us that he is the MIB. I suspect that she knows him by another (or many other?) forms, and accepts him as he presents himself. She knows he's not really Locke (just another form for him) so she knows that Jin wouldn't know him. These are the most ACCEPTING people I have ever seen! Part of the "infection" I guess, but what is Sawyer's excuse? (for accepting dead-Locke without question).

By seeing his boyhood home, Jack knew that Jacob was watching him his whole life (starting in childhood, at his boyhood home). I think the Shepherd is Jack - though I like the idea of it being Ray.
Great episode!! (WAYYYYYYYYYYY too many commercials!!)
hammer....i was just saying that claire could have kept track of time, somewhat, if she wanted to.
Yikes! That was a long post - sorry! :)
Oh Shelley, you are correct. I think it was established that the O others were not skipping through time.
I got ya Bacon, that's why I threw out the symantics crap...just to do the 'just sayin' thing.
PJ, Circus Dork and her circus/theatre friends would probably read the annotated Alice. We did two circus shows with the Alice theme. I aqctually think we were shown that book for the Looking Glass reference.
Yeah, I know. I just think it was a pretty BIG stretch for a teenage BOY to have been reading that book of his own volition.
: ) P
I was thinking while I read this, that he told her that the O/others took Aaron in order to get Claire to GO there - to the Temple - in order to get in himself (with/in her).
Good thought!
I agree. But Jacob COULD have been watching Ray all along and thought Jack was the ticket. However, I think that, were it Ray, we'd have been introduced to him before last season.
: ) P
From Get Lost Podcast:
# In alt world, Jack apparently had his appendix removed as a child, although he doesn’t seem to remember it anymore (similar to his confusion over the cut on his neck in “LA X” ). In the original island timeline, Juliet removed Jack’s appendix in “Something Nice Back Home”.
# Jack’s son, David, is reading “The Annotated Alice” by Lewis Carroll. Jack recalls reading it to David when he was little, similar to how he read “Alice in Wonderland” to his pseudo-son, Aaron, in a flash-forward from Season 4.
DocH....i dig the idea that smoky is Wallace, but why would jacob tell hurley to turn it to 108 (knowing jack would break it), while not caring that it didn't go to 108 and also knowing that smoky was at the temple at that moment?
gotcha. i'm still not on board yet for reasons already mentioned: ilana saying smoky is stuck as locke, smoky needing a physical body (not ashes) to duplicate, dogen not seeing jacob while hurley did, flocke being with jin while jacob was with hurley at the lighthouse.
but i will say that mib being jacob did occur to me during the flashbacks where he/"jacob" was pushing him to the island.
I'm sorry DocH - I can't buy it. Jacob is Jacob, and MIB is Smokey is Flock. Per Ilana, he can't "become" anyone else anymore. I'm personally glad because it wouldn't appeal much if we have to second guess who is really whom for the rest of the season. I believe Ilana put that to rest and so can we. Just sayin.
I don't believe Wallace is the boy either (though he MIGHT be MIB - we have never been told his name). I believe the boy is young Jacob. They went to some trouble to find an actor who looks like he might grow up to be Jacob, but more importantly, Flock was unnerved by him - saying his famous "YOU CAN'T TELL ME WHAT I CAN'T DO!". I feel he would only say that to Jacob - who might actually be ABLE to tell him what he can't do. :)
i was leaning heavily towards young jacob or even young locke, but after the enhanced ep, it felt very Taller Ghost Walt. even the camera angle. so that made me think Taller Ghost Aaron. (but aaron's still not my first choice....not sure i have one yet!)
Just curious, has anyone run across a translation of what Dogan said to Hurley?
'pedia says it's loosely "You're lucky that I have to protect you. Otherwise I'd have cut your head off."
Manifest as an hallucination or "vision" mode. Can appear as a horse to Kate, a friend (or Jacob) to Hurley, etc....
Or... maybe the "vision" mode is no longer an option now that he is "stuck" as Locke?
: ) P
Regarding 108: If it *is* Aaron, hjs name would be Aaron Wallace, an anagram for
ORACLE or LAW?
Okay, it is a stretch, but I had to go there *G*.
: ) P
I think the Jacob Hurley sees is the real Jacob (dead version). I don't think smokey apeared as Christian. I think Christian, Claire and Sayid are re-animated dead versions of themselves. They, may now be like Richard and never age. Perhaps Jacob and MIB's sides can re-animate people for their side.
Oops, nope. I guess I lost some letters there. Never mind.
: ) P
Doc, I'll buy Gromit if Vincent is there too.
But DocH, CAN MIB get into the Temple at all, with the ashes surrounding it? It seems he needs help with that - thus Claire looking for her bayyybeeee there. I really do hope you are wrong (no offense!)because I don't want to forever be wondering if this or that person is really themselves or if it is MIB/Jacob/whomever. As if we aren't ALREADY LOST!
Jacob-as-Jacob vision probably told him to take Jack to LH - knowing Jack would break the mirrors in the LH. MIB-as-Jacob probably just wanted Hugo to go set the thing to 108.
Sorry Doc, I don't buy it. Hurley was given the directions to take Jack there and turn the wheele to 108 all at the same time. I really don't think MIB is showing up as Jacob, or ever has.
Doc, I'm glad you think that Wallace is MIB(I've got dibbs). But I don't agree that Jacob is totally gone. If he was, it seems to me the battle would be over. If they had already shown someone take over Jacob's position I could buy it, but there Jacob talking to Hugo seems to be the only one doing anything on THAT side of the battle.
Okay then, it was MIB-as-Jacob tasking Hurley to got to LH. And it was MIB-as-Jacob that told Hugo to take belly-wound Sayid to the Temple. He mentioned 'candidate' to Hugo, just like he did with Sawyer in the cave. He knew Jack would break the mirrors... when he told Hurley 108 would bring someone to the island, he wanted the opposite... stop someone from coming... courtesy of Jack.
I still say Jacob is Jacob. He appears to Hurley after Jack broke the mirrors and dosn't seem to mind that Jack broke them. He also says he dosn't want them back at the Temple because something bad is there. That something bad will be MIB/Flock.
Illana also made it a point to say he is stuck with Lockes face now. I think that is in form and manifestations. Either killing Jacob or entering the FTS made him stuck.
I HOPE that those of you who think that Wallace is RBB are wrong - unless he turns out to be someone WE ALREADY KNOW. Technically, he hasn't even been introduced to us yet (even as a name) - the casual viewer (most people?) haven't been pouring over screen caps and haven't become aware of #108 Wallace YET - WAY too late in the series to be introducing YET ANOTHER vital new character, IMO.
I will also be very disappointed if MIB can "manifest" as Jacob (or anyone else either at this point) - do we really want to wonder every time we see ANYBODY whether it's them, or whether it's really another manifestation? EVERY scene with ANYBODY would be potentially be MIB? Really?
I have to admit...you make a good case Doc. So I'd like to hear why you think MIB-Jacob doesn't want Hugo and Jack to go back to the temple. Do think if the 'numbers' are together MIB has a problem? Keep them separated?
I also wonder why the writers would have Ilana tell us he's stuck as Locke if it's just the opposite.
DocH said...
Battle Royale is on the way. Kate, Frank and Sun (Ben?) are the loose cannons.
The battle -- maybe the only battle -- of the coming war will be the Battle of the Temple. Frank, Sun and Ben are loose cannons, but they're on their way to the Temple with Ilana. They and the Others, including Richard, make up the Blue forces. Smoke, Claire, and Jin are Red. It's a small force, but all Smoke needs is one for diversion and one to break the ash barrier. After that... That leaves Jack, Hugo and Kate who are off on their own. They're Green (or White). Jacob really only needs Jack and Kate to become Adam and Eve. Hugo's expendable after he's done the things he needs to do to get Jack on track.

From Jorge Garcia, things that were in the script, but were either cut or not seen:
* "Hey this is Brian" - There was another message on David's voicemail from a buddy name Brian about having a sleep over.
* "Apollo candy is now Apollo soda" - The drink that David takes from the fridge was called an Apollo soda in the script but became unknown as he had his hand over it. "
* Claire's peanut butter" - In the description of Claire's hovel they mention that the empty peanut butter jar from Charlie is on one of the shelves.
Not noteworthy to the plot, but interesting!
: ) P
Hey - I've been reading this the past few weeks - lost4ever is my brother and PJSander gave me the link. I just want to contribute/ask a few things:
I have been wondering, why is MIB 'trapped' with Locke's face? I mean, can his spirit only inhabit the forms of dead beings? If so, how can Locke's dead body be buried on one part of the Island, while MIB is running around in it on the other side of the Island?
I'm of the persuasion (I think) that the little boy is Aaron. Blond, blue-eyed.. It has been established that he is an integral part to the story - what better way to bring him back into the fold? I think we now know why the psychic said it was essential that he be raised by no one other than Claire - because she would turn into a psycho killer if he was taken away!
Welcome, Kates - or is it welcome back? We had two Kates last season!
BTW, Jorge also confirmed (from the script) that the reflections in the mirror were the Kwon's temple, the church where Sawyer's parents' funerals were and Jack's childhood home.
: ) P
Hmm... I'm not sure if I was ever here, although some of the names look familiar. I used to post on one called filmfodder awhile back.. the reviews there used to be really funny.. I try to read doc jensen on ew.com - but they're sometimes too philosophical for me. But I get it... just not enough time for it unfortunately!
Any theories as to why they deliberately did not show Kate's name on the cave wall, but on the wheel? Someone said that the wheel names are Jacob's, and the cave names are MIB's... also thought it was interesting that the 6 numbers were shown on the cave wall, and they were all proclaimed to be "candidates" but none of them were any of the women left (unless Kwon referred to Sun - which might make better sense, her character is more developed than Jin's).
I think the test for Sayid was the ash and the electric shock. When he didn't pass that he was branded. Claire said she was branded. Does this have something to do with when they branded Juliette for killing another other?
Thanks Doc. Next questions:
If Jacob is GONE gone, then who is the battle royale going to be with?
Why not just leave?

Why not just leave?
Remember last season when Ajira 316 crashed? Roxanne found "Locke" standing in the water. The next morning, Ilana found him standing in the water looking toward the Island. Why didn't Smoke just go there? Because he can only cross bodies of water (maybe except rivers) if accompanied by a willing person. When he did go to the Island, it was in a canoe with Ben.
Update on Sawyer. Smoke has him stashed somewhere (willingly) because he doesn't want him to see him in smoke mode destroying people and things; that would make him unwilling.
Ya read it here first, unless it's all wrong; then I have idea who wrote this. *grin*

I like it, Jim.

Welcome, Kates!
There's a lot of chatter on Lostpedia about the male/female question. If "Kwon" is Jin, then all the significant figures are men. There haven't been many women in positions of (governing) authority on the Island; the only one I can think of is "the enforcer," and that was a modern Other.
Maleness may be a requirement for candidacy.
In passing:
* I had not noticed the peanut butter jar; there's still a little of the old Claire left?
* I thought Dogen was blustery when he spoke to Hugo after Hugo declared himself to be a candidate. The words were fierce but he was backing away. A real threat would have been more in-your-face followed by turning away, which is both a form of rejection and a display of fearlessness.
8) Jim
I'm on a roll this morning. Maybe while Sawyer is on ice he'll get a visit from the blond boy?
I don't know who wins. I'm not even sure I know who the good guy is. Arrrgh!
8) Jim
Ok, I accept that he needs help leaving...but if Jacob is gone I want to know who the new character is that he will be fighting.

The successful candidate, who will prove his worth in the Battle of the Temple and who may even be Sawyer. This is somewhat at odds with my rambling from last night about blue forces and red forces.
8) Jim
Jim, Doc is saying that there is no Jacob recruiting candidates anymore. So am I LOST on who he thinks MIB is battling.
just pointing out:
-- richard didn't see blond boy because his back was to him.
-- the first mention we ever heard of the "rules" was by ben after alex was shot.
i still think that MIB is either in the form of smoke or john. that's it; he can't be anyone ever or this show would lose credibility if we constantly had to worry about every person we see being fake AND/OR lying.
i also still have a hunch that the "home" MIB wants to get to is via the temple. i've recently watched some nova documentaries about egypt and how they built/had such elaborate burial ideas as a means of getting to their final "home", the Afterlife. also, the great sphynx had 35 human sacfrices buried in front of his tomb. if that's how smoky rolls, that would make me not wanna be in the temple when smoky's there. i think the folks that DO stay in the temple do so because of that magic water.
it also interests me that the water was brown after jacob died, and it wasn't until AFTER they dunked sayid in it that they learned of jacob's death.
another thing that has always bugged me:
"god loves you as jacob loved you."
why loveD? with the past tense? does jacob not love you anymore? does jacob precede god? i dunno.
just always stuck with me.
The candidate have been recruited. Jacob did his job. Now the five that we know of contend for the position, not necessarily against each other but against the conditions. (No new applications accepted.) *grin*
Slightly off subject, but the winner needs a partner.
Jack: Kate (triangle)
Sawyer: Kate (triangle)
Jin: Sun
Hugo: Cindy?
Sayid: I dunno
Which side is Widmore on? Does it matter? Is he the one who's coming?
8) Jim
Grrrr....SOMEONE has to finish the recruiting job.
Shelley, I agree about Richard seeing RBB. You are likely correct that MIB needs to get into the temple to go 'home'. Otherwise he'd take a boat or raft off the island and use the correct coordinate ala Michael/Walt, Keamy, et al.
So i was telling my boss about the egypt special i watched on nova, and how i think smoky wants to get to the temple to get to his after life, and i told her how the documentary mentioned how "people could be pharaohs, and people could be gods, and pharaohs could be gods, but not all gods were pharaohs and vice versa."
Then we pondered the "god loves you as jacob loved you." room 23 quote. And then it made much more sense to me, grammatically, when i thought "god loves you as pharaoh loved you." Not sure what that means, but i'm liking it. Egypt hints have been in the show since season 1 when walt says "birds of australia...this is dumb...shouldn't we be studying birds of egypt or something?"
Time to revive my whisperers theory.
Jacob is a now a whisperer. According to my theory, the whisperers can expose themselves but as of yet have chose to not.
Jacob is exposing himself to Hugo because Hugo is now comfortable with seeing the dead.
I saw and very much enjoyed that Doc!
If my whisperers theory does in fact live...then maybe RBB is a whisperer who chose to expose himself to Flocke and Sawyer...nix Richard (regardless of what direction he was facing).
H Bomb...do you have a link to your whispers theory? I don't remember all the details but I remember not ruling it out.
Just remember it's old and 'liquid'. ;)

Juliet's mark resembles the alchemic mark for spirit according to LP.
thanks hammer. bout to read it.
speaking of old theories and hansos, i read up on a some carthage stuff ever since charlotte mentioned it during her death-babble. i'd already had hunches with other connections to there, but that was the clincher for me. anyhoo...a great carthaginean was Hanno Magnus.
that just screams magnus hanso to me.
Pork Slices, I had forgotten about Char's carthage tidbit...thanks for the reminder.
Doc, I mentioned Julietts brand in my last post. I don't think the branding was part of the test. I think it was a mark to define the results.
sorry for this...offtopic...but things like this actually make me like Jack a little more!

Does it matter, other than modesty and TV standards, that Sayid was branded on the chest and Claire on her upper arm? They could have branded Sayid on the shoulder.
8) Jim
Juliette was branded on the small of her back. Not sure if the location matters.
Welcome sis, there used to be a blogger on here named katesfriend, I'm sure she still checks in.
I am leaning towards Jacob being Jacob and MIB being Locke this season, although DocH's theory on the subject is very interesting. If Wallace is MIB, which I don't believe, then it would make sense that MIB has been Jacob this season.
the only one I can think of is "the enforcer," and that was a modern Other
How about Eloise JIG?
WAY too late in the series to be introducing YET ANOTHER vital new character, IMO.
I agree with you there Rita although they just introduced us to MIB and Jacob 5 episodes ago. Sure we knew there was a Jacob and a smoke monster, but their identities were hidden. This reminds me of TBI the last couple seasons as to the identity of Jacob. People claimed Jacob had to have been someone we already knew because it was too late in the story to introduce new characters. S
Because he can only cross bodies of water (maybe except rivers) if accompanied by a willing person. When he did go to the Island, it was in a canoe with Ben.
Not sure about the whole crossing water thing but we know he can't cross the ash. I like you idea about a "willing" person and where that is headed. That would explain how he would have gotten in Jacob's cabin dressed as CS. If he really is CS which we do not know for sure.
Any theories as to why they deliberately did not show Kate's name on the cave wall, but on the wheel
Not really sure but her name was not crossed out on the wheel. Maybe she is Jacob's unknown candidate.
Dogan also couldn't make Sayid take the poison. Sayid had to take it willingly. That is why they asked Jack to give it to him. I don't think MIB is CS. I think CS is reanimated like Claire and Sayid. That would be why we see Lockes body and not CS's body.
Not being able to cross water was speculation on my part because of the way Ben summoned the monster. May or may not be true.
Not really sure but her name was not crossed out on the wheel. Maybe she is Jacob's unknown candidate.
+++++++
I think this is because Kate is not one of the numbers. They had 7 candidates left and six numbers so we didn't see Kate. If we did we would be arguing endlessly about Kates number. Perhaps we will anyway. Maiby she is the change to the Valenzetti equation.
If we did we would be arguing endlessly about Kates number
Austen IS 51 on the wheel. It may not be Kate but it was definitely Austen.
I agree with DocH that we did not see all of MIB's cave ( it is his cave for me until we see further evidence ). Austen may have very well been somewhere on the wall, maybe we did not see the right perspective for that scene.
I can't remember when Flocke first apppeared in the Airja timeline. But I am pretty sure that we have not seen the Airja time FLASH. Meaning, it is 3 years after the runway was built ( 2007 ) for the current island story.
I hate shoveling snow at 2:00 AM.:)

Hmmm. Noted. I was thinking about enforcement like Sheriff Isabel (finally looked up her name). Eloise was a leader and certainly didn't hesitate to shoot -- even Daniel; Isabel was just nasty.
A glitch in my grand scheme of Smoke needing someone with him to cross water is how he got to Hydra to "await" the arrival of 316. The only thing I can think of is that Claire took him over and returned by herself. Someone commented that Flocke was seen standing in the water. I took that as a kind of longing to be able to do what he could not. (Ash is worse; he can't even touch ash.)

Jacks asian tatoo said “He walks among us but is not one of us.” Sounds like Jacob, MIB or Flock to me. Jack said, “That’s what it says but thats not what it means.”
The only purpose of the tatoo epi was to have the above conversation so it must be inportant.
Which makes me wonder if the Nikki and Paulo epi had inportance. Especially since we just revisited their graves. Perhaps Sayid wasn’t dead, just bitten by a medusa spider. I actually don’t think it is that simple but who knows. Still dosn’t explain why he is infected.
I have re-watched and noticed that Kate was very weird when Jack and Hurley passed her.
Jack and Hurley stop slightly, Jack asks which way. Hurley says this way and starts to walk. In about 4 or 5 steps Jack sees Kates backpack and turns toward the water. Kat still has her back towards him. She dosn't seem aware of him unti he looks directly at her. She then immediatly turns and points the gun at him.
Please rewatch and tell me what you think.
I also find it odd that Shannons inhaler is sitting on the ground on top of the debris three years later. Of course, that was to make them stop at the caves. So, wern't Adam and Eve further apart in the first reality. And wasn't the coffin in another area. And why dosn't Hurley remember seeing the coffin before.
And why is it pouring rain in San Diego. Tsunami in Hawaii today.
The latest news on the tsunami alert is that the islands are expecting three to four foot waves (down graded from eight foot predictions several hours ago). The Marquesas apparently only got six foot waves, but I am glad that everyone is taking good precautions.
Is it wrong that I worried about the filming of LOST when I heard about the tsunami? I mean I did know that our friends in Hawaii were safe, but...
: ) P
PJ, You are very patient with Susan A on TBI. I was wondering if she was watching the same show as us.
Anyone have any thoughts on Kate's weird behavior?

Kate saw/imagined Claire in her house one night and, because of that, left Aaron behind. Did Kate see what Claire did to the two Others and her interaction with Flocke? Kate is a tracker. That's as much as I can offer right now.8(
8) Jim
CM: She dosn't seem aware of him unti he looks directly at her.
She also didn't hear the Jack/Hurley conersation. It could have been because she was close to the stream and couldn't hear over the sound of running water; but maybe could sense someone was behind her. Not sure about the inhaler or coffin though. They never saw the lighthouse before either.
DocH:So if Flocke is getting visions like the guy he is impersonating, perhaps there is some remnant of real Locke in there
Excellent idea. What if that is part of MIB's "curse" or ability when he clones the body? He still has the orignal persons talents or faults. You are definitely onto something.
Isabel seemed nasty JIG. Whatever happened to her?
I don't think its wrong PJ. I was wondering the same thing about the tsunami.

Good question. Her page on the LP says "deceased," but it does explain how. There's a lot of chatter on her talk page. TPTB said in one her appearances that she was dead, but they've said that more than once. She only appeared in on episode, "Stranger in a Strange Land," which, lest we forget, is the infamous "how Jack got his tattoo" episode.
Talk about a lasting impression.

That should be "does not explain"

Over at http://abc.go.com/shows/lost they have the usual collection of promos. But this week there's a great conversation between Michael Emerson, Carlton and Damon about the "Lost spin off." You have to wait for it to happen and you'll probably see some trailers before you get to it.

Have a good one Steve, er...L4E.
Not sure about this, but if Claire and Jin go to the Temple, and FLocke happens to be with them, who will Sayid see when he sees FLocke? I don't think he'll recognize him as Locke...just re-watching the first few episodes and thinking...
I get the impression that Claire didn't time travel. We know Sun didn't. So why were the two of them and Frank stuck in time with the others?
Thanks for the birthday wishes! Can't wait for tomorrow. I was thinking, if Season 6 mirrors Season 1, are we going to get a Charlie FSW in episode 7?
I get the impression that Claire didn't time travel. We know Sun didn't. So why were the two of them and Frank stuck in time with the others?
If Claire was alive, and not infected, I feel like she HAD to have been traveling with Sawyer, Juliet and the freighties. She might not realized that she was time traveling, and in fact, the flashes might have made her a little whacked out.
As to why Ben, Sun, Frank, Ilana, Locke's body and the A316'ers did NOT flash to 1977? I think it is all about moving the story forward and keeping Sun and Jin separated, honestly. I kind of doubt that will be answered, but it would be nice if it were.
