~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~One Sunday night we won't forget
It is difficult to predict what the hour will entail, except that like the past few episodes, it will give us more answers.
Jack is certainly the obvious one. I a waiting to see if Des is still Des though....
This episode is supposed to be Jack/Locke-centric, right? Sounds to me like L4E is right, Jack is the candidate...I'm just excited for a new episode!
Nice lead-in, PJ.
Maybe Hurley is the Candidate. Remember season one? It was Hurley who took that first important step of "conducting a census." That's how they found out about Ethan Rom, that they weren't alone.
Hurley was the butt of jokes early on. It's good to see him emerge with some purpose.
Wish list:
* What's Desmond's status?
* Is Sayid recovering?
* How does Sayid's "being dead" connect?
* Was he, as Miles said, really dead?
* Blond Boy: Who? Representing?
We had a real ass on the LP. He created a username that was, in itself, a spoiler and started putting stuff all over the blogs; I was able to lock the guy out but the name is something I didn't want to know. Now we have to watch for him to find a new IP to log in from and do it again.
Roger that. I don't think they can use that sub for the whole journey. How could Daniel get from Ann Arbor so quickly after Jack and company arrived in 1977?
Hammer said...
I don't believe mib anymore that he needs them to go with him.
Hammer said...
I guess that prediction was bit obvious.
Lindsay said...
I'm watching a little behind tonight on the DVR so sorry if they answer this tonight, but where the heck are Alpert and Miles?
Hammer said...
Claire is saved because Aaron is the candidate.
Hammer said...
Wow...that was a great episode.
Jim in Georgia said...
My jaw dropped when FST Jack told FST Locke, "You're a candidate."
Dead:
* Sun
* Jin
* Sayid (Recovered (Wish list))
* Frank
Alive:
* Desmond
* Jack
* Sawyer
* Hurley
* Kate
* Claire
* MiB
Unknown:
* Richard
* Miles
Now how does MiB get off the Island? His pilot is dead and his submarine is destroyed. I'd be very unhappy if MiB were able to fly that airplane.
How does anyone get off the Island except by whatever method the Others had to get back and forth? Richard knows, because he returned to the Island almost instantly after he showed Juliet the video of her sister. TPTB haven't come clean on that one yet.
I thought the Sun-Jin ending was well done.
Jack has to be the Candidate and Desmond becomes his "deputy" or something like that which I may make sense of later. Penny gets left behind and all three kids get written out of the plot.
Hammer said...
I feel like MIB doesn't want to leave by any kind of vessel.
He wants all the candidates dead so that he is truely free.
Then he is free to go whatever that means.
Jim in Georgia said...
Hammer said...
Yes, MiB can travel whenever he wants. (So much for my theory about djinns.) The presence of Jacob or Jacob's successor is what binds him to the Island. If there is no successor, poof! he's gone.
Back to my last ramble: Maybe Richard was kept young only as long as Jacob was alive. It was Jacob who touched him. He will now age (gracefully?) and Desmond will take his place.
I think Jack is right. I think the candidates will have to choose to die or kill each other. Jin died because he wouldn't leave Sun. SO I see it as...SUn killed Jin, because of his love for her. I don't know but I thought it really sucked. They had just reunited. MIB knows not everyone died. How does he know that? Is all this already planned out? He can only kill a certain amount at one time? I am confused lol.
Lindsay said...
I forgot Ben is in that list of unknown persons also. It was a great episode, although I could have done without all the emotional aspects today, too much of a rollercoaster for me!! But it was well done and I can't believe Sun, Jin, and Sayid are gone!!
I agree, I think MIB just wants all the candidates to die and then he will truly be free. As long as there is no one to replace Jacob and oppose him.
Great episode, can't wait to watch it again!!
Lindsay said...
Good point Tasha...Sayid chose to die, Sun indirectly killed Jin and herself...I think because MIB has some special "force" power knowledge thing (how's that for specific?) that he used to sense or know that not all the candidates were dead. Makes me wonder if Desmond really is a candidate, wouldn't he know if Sayid had really killed him? Or maybe he does and he's got a plan for that too? I'm so confused, sorry I'm sure I'm not making much sense, it's been a long night!!
Absolute heartbreaker to watch Sun and Jin, but what do we make of Jin passing Locke in the hallway just afterwards?
I'm definitely buying Desmond as the Richard replacement. Same kind of vibe and he does have to "make a sacrifice" and all.
I think they were all able to die on the sub because as Jack said, they killed each other when Sawyer pulled the wires on the bomb. Apparently that kind of thing is ok in the big fancy rule book of Jacob.
PJSander said...
Do we know for sure that Frank is dead? I missed that.
Okay so I have heard this many times before...but was looking into it again tonight. I just don't know any way of getting around these laws and rules....could this be the game of Senet with real life pawns? I have looked into it before, and the rules that people have tried to come up with (since there ARE no recorded rules they can only go by ancient pictures) is this....
"Now, remember, players want to get all their men off the board, past square 30. But none can leave the board until all of this player’s men are past the first row, past square 10 in other words. If even one man gets put back to row 1, then not a single man can leave the board until every last one of the men are off the first row."
But I have read in places that they believed the Egyptians used human pawns because it is a game of souls...
Speaking of games, in backgammon, you take any pieces off of the board (which is the objective) until all pieces are in the final 6 slots of the home board.
This episode was awesome regarding the amount of things that happened, but it felt rushed at times. And some of the dialogue felt spoonfed... as though they're writing it for people who just tuned back in this season. Not trying to harsh on my favorite show, I just think that in the long run, season 6 may not be my favorite season. It's not right now at least.
I guess I'll throw all of my Adam & Eve chips towards Rose & Bernard.
I agree that MIB just wants everyone dead. He probably wasn't expecting so many to go with him when he made the ultimatum at the Temple. I also agree that there may not be any physical "home" he's trying to get to, but just as a reminder, one can also leave the island by turning the donkey wheel and ending up in Tunisia.
Shelley said...
I had an awesome LOST dream where I was on a vessel, and the front half was like a plane, with seats/aisles, and the back half looked like a sub. And I was with Kate and we were debating about throwing a bomb out of the submarine.
lost4ever said...
I agree with those that said MIB doesn't need to physically leave the island to be free, he just needs the candidates dead. So why did he take the explosives, planted by Widmore, off of the plane?
Lindasy: ...Sayid chose to die,
He committed suicide to save the others because of Sawyer's action. I think Jack was right and the bomb would not have gone off.
In the FSW, Locke was experiencing the other reality in his dream.
3 candidates down and 3 to go.
Now what are Ben, Miles, and Richard up to?
Tasha said...
So why did he take the explosives, planted by Widmore, off of the plane?
I see it as, he wanted to get them all in a confined area with no chance of escaping. If they had been on the airplane and saw the bomb, they would have all had a chance to run out and away from the explosion. The bomb was hooked up to go off when someone tampered with it...(Sawyer)...so my guess is MIB thought they would all die. Then realized they didn't..THE END.
Hammer said...
justguessing on TBI is suggesting that Aaron is MIB. I just can't see LOST trying to tell us that MIB/Smokey and Aaron can exist together in the same time lines.
What do ya'll think?
lost4ever said...
I don't see it Hammer. Is there some kind of theory behind that?
Tasha said...
Hammer, I have seen people say that, and although I don't believe it, I do not think that someone living in 2 different timelines is that crazy. We have seen it before on Lost. So, it might be possible I guess.
Aaron was always said to have been important. MIB has some strange connection with Claire. His mom was crazy, etc. Nobody else could ever raise him. The fact that we don't know the identity of MIB is a little strange. The most family on the island is Aaron's. WE don't even know where Aaron is right now, for all we know he died since last Kate saw him.
If the ending has Claire get off the island and raise Aaron, there is his loophole. If FSW are what WILL happen, then Aaron hasn't even been born.
I love reading all your theories! Less than 3 weeks and we will know EVERYTHING..hehe..or will we??
Shelley said...
I think another reason MIB took the bomb off of the plane is so that he could convince our Losties to trust him instead of Widmore.
Tasha said...
Hammer, I just read your last post over there, maybe I will read them all later, but I guess when you said the same living in two time lines, i am still thinking of time travel.
I am thinking how Sawyer was alive in Dharma and his little self was in the real world. Or when Sawyer saw Kate delivering the baby when we know he was somewhere else on the island at that time, etc.
SO maybe I misunderstood or not on the bandwagon of what is going on.
Hammer said...
Before the "time jumping" Aaron and Smokey were both on the island at the same time.
I'm going out on a limb and saying that we don't know MIBs name yet because he is the devil.
Tasha said...
Well he also wanted Aaron off of the island for some reason. Remember he had told Locke that Aaron is "where he is supposed to be."
Then there was Claire's warning to Kate to never bring him back to the island.
I believe Aaron is going to play a significant role. Not sure what but I am just glad it will all be solved soon.
Hammer said...
Right now I am holding on to Aaron being Jacob's replacement or something big like that...maybe even MIB's replacement. But not MIB=Aaron.
Lindsay said...
And there's also that crazy dream that Claire had about Aaron being gone and Locke with the black and white eyes...
Circus Mom said...
Post first, then read.
I expected Sayid to die but he died saving his friends so OK.
Sun and Jin, Sad, emotional death, like Charlie.
So, why am I so angry that they killed off Frank?
Hammer said...
Circus Mom, maybe you feel like I do about Frank. They only kept him on the show to set us up for the surprise (MIB doesn't need the candidates to leave together, but to all die). They kept him on ONLY so we would keep thinking they were going to fly the plane.
Assuming he's dead that is...
Circus Mom said...
The music box mad perfect sense to me. Claire adked the adoptive parents in her FB if they knew Catch a Falling Star (CAFS) and asked them to sing that to her baby because her father had sung that to her when she was a baby.
In the new timeline Claire tells Jack she had "Never met the man." The music box was sort of a WHH course correction moment like Jack having a apendix scar.
Jack has to be the Candidate and Desmond becomes his "deputy" or something like that which I may make sense of later. Penny gets left behind...
"The Island isn't through with you yet." - Eloise Hawking (to Desmond)
Jacob selected Richard as his emissary because Richard needed a job and, I guess, because Jacob had some grand plan. Jack, if he's Jacob's replacement, may not need an emissary, yet. That takes me back to Eloise. Her inclusion of "yet" in her admonition suggests that the Island eventually will be through with Desmond. At that point, he's allowed to leave or makes the ultimate sacrifice. I'm leaning toward leave because he's protected by his father-in-law, Charles Widmore. Not because Widmore is particularly fond of Desmond, but because he wants to square things with his daughter.
At any rate, I don't think Des becomes the "new Richard."
If Jack does need an emissary, there's Hurley. Let's face it, back "Outside" Hurley is kind of pathetic. On the Island, he came into his own. "Decisive" is one term that fits.
I nominate Hurley for the "new Richard."
I believe Locke expected to feel something - to sense something - if/when they all died - his big "freeing" moment of sorts. That's how he knew they hadn't all died - he wasn't freed, therefore, someone lived. I guess the gloves are off now - no more Mr. Nice Guy! I wonder if Claire will stick with him now.
Jim in Georgia said...
Hot issue on the LP. First he was listed as probably dead but officially "Unknown" then the uproar started based on an interview with TPTB that did not include him among dead and the latest "Lost Untangled" in which "Pierre Chang" said everyone survived except Jin, Sun and Sayid.
IMO, depending on "Lost Untangled" as a canon source is weak. The answer I like was that if he doesn't show up before the end of the finale, we'll know for sure.
I think Frank's story has been told.
8) Jim
Hammer said...
I agree Jim, if only for the reason that I don't think ANYONE is leaving the island, much less by plane.
I think the rest of the story goes like this....MIB succeeds in killing everyone, the island sinks, the timelines mesh whilst everyone in FSW 'remembers' the original timeline, they get together to course correct and put MIB back in the bottle and the island is raised with a new Jacob...likely Jack or Aaron.
Hammer said...
PJ, TBI is pretty much people arguing whether Aaron is MIB and who is good/evil....again...
I wonder what this blog will be like after the Final Episode...will we be here discussing it and still asking questions?
Or will we be really disappointed and not have seen ANY of it coming together the way it did.
Or will it be a bunch of "I KNEW IT!"
I am still wondering where Annie went.....Is Walt going to be back on...where are Rose and Bernard and Vincent...How does Eloise Hawkins know so much?...and will we ever see Juliet again? It seems like so much more I want to see with such little time left:)
Oh I hope so.
Maybe after the first few weeks of discussions and questions, we can plan a visit back here to talk about stuff that comes up in the rewatching? Perhaps we can plan to watch an episode a week all together, and then meet to rehash the episode knowing everything we know? That might be fun.
I am still wondering where Annie went.....Is Walt going to be back on...where are Rose and Bernard and Vincent...How does Eloise Hawkins know so much?...and will we ever see Juliet again? It seems like so much more I want to see with such little time left:)
If I had to guess, we won't see more of Annie or Walt. Rose, Bernard and Vincent will surely make an appearance! Juliet? Oh I hope so! Have we seen her again since the FSW's started?
Jim in Georgia said...
Maybe Juliet will show up and have a cup of coffee with Sawyer. He needs some good news after being shut down by Charlotte. But I'm not sure what that would accomplish other than closing one very small loop.
People on the LP are still arguing over Frank, pointing out that Jorge's blog is not canon; that much is true, the blog is not canon.
Some diehards on the LP are suggesting that Zoe is Annie. That would be an interesting reunion. "Adam and Eve?" Nah!
Tasha (and others), ya gotta watch episodes 11 and 12 of FlashForward. A lot of very interesting things happen! Unfortunately, it's not currently available on lined.
